He's probably referring to water coming soon.

But in answer to your question, is LBP dying? Based on the levels I've seen currently, I don't think it is. I know that many of the best level creators are spending longer perfecting there levels, so we're seeing higher quality levels but more spread out.

Just in the last few weeks I've seen many high quality levels pass through cool levels. And in the coming weeks you should see levels from CompherMC, RangerZero, and myself pop up there.

I felt like it was dying for a while. It was sort of depressing. But with all the news of water and now this whole pirates of the caribbean thing, I think that people will come back to it and you'll see a resurgence of good levels for a while.2009-12-10 18:57:00

We have discussed this one many times here. It simply takes longer to build a great level instead of a mindless one. There is also a disproportion of really good creators to ones that are just happy publishing whatever quick down and dirty level they come up with next. The good news is there are more and more new ones learning the craft and getting really good.

Now.. take in consideration that many of us have struggled with really small profiles and it was a challenge to juggle what little space we had on our moons. This made it even more difficult to plunge ahead with new and more exciting levels for you to play. That has just recently been corrected.

Also... every two weeks there is another glorious Community Spotlight filled to the brim with great levels to play.

...and if you had checked the news.. OC just came out and there a quite a few contests as well as water being close at hand with new levels from Mm.

Taking all that into consideration as well as the ton of new folks that show up here each week, I don't think LBP is dying at all...

What a strange time to ask that question in light of the water announcement...

No, it does not appear that LBP is dying any more so than in the sense that everything is dying all the time.

Hah! Got a really good chuckle out of that one...

EVERYTHING is dying all the time.... so our main worry should be that there will be no more good levels.... if all the good creators die.

Unfortunately, Jeriko will live to be 100.... Get out there and exercise, Wex! We may need you....

It's probably not a coincidence that level output has dropped in the same timeframe that lots of big new games have been released.2009-12-10 20:25:00

Well, first up... LBP does NOT just equal what's on the Cool Pages. Got that? Okay...

As for it dying, well, don't confuse 'LBP dying' with 'people who either haven't got much patience/have bought other games/are easily bored etc. etc.

I've not had so much fun with a game. Ever.

I've spent days playing only levels with .JPN in their title. I've spent hours on a few levels, either trying to get a score, trying to finish it(!), or simply just revisiting it because I love it. I've spent countless times simply CHATTING to my friends that I've made all over this world of ours. I now know people all over the UK and Europe, the USA, Australia, Japan, South Africa and Russia. I've been surprised, shocked, elated, dumbfounded, angry, happy, sad. All in one day! By this one game!

LBP dying? Maybe for some. But for me and a few others around here, they'll have to kick us off the servers kicking and screaming before we'll leave!

It ain't over yet.

I feel that it is just taking too long for those of us who are dying to play some awesome levels We are just greedy for some good levels, and whether we like it or not, we have to wait for those great levels to come. If only I could dedicate all my time to making levels.... Haha anyways dont sweat it dude, levels will come, we just have to make with what we got and hope that something amazing will come along!2009-12-10 20:28:00

NO ONE should think there's a shortage of good levels - I honestly don't have the time to play all the great levels that are coming out AND get my latest level done. It's insane how much great stuff there is.

I used to be able to play most of the levels passing through the showcase - now there's so much great stuff its hard to make it through the spotlight thread every 2 weeks....

In the last several days I've beta tested 5 unreleased levels, tried to perfect my score on a level from SHENOA77, tried to play and give feedback on a number of showcase levels, AND spent numerous hours trying to finish my latest level.

I gotta agree with MrsSpookyBuz.... look beyond cool levels - many of the best creators simply don't republish that much. Or, at least look on the lower pages of cool levels.

If you truly run out, go back through the older spotlight threads - there are a TON of gems in there you probably haven't played. Or browse through NinjaMicWZ, OCK, and Neverynnal's levels... I did that about a week ago and most of them are just as fresh as if they'd just been made.

Well, I think it's safe to say that quality levels take a looong time to churn out (In general; glances at Wex). As the community grows, as do their expectations of great levels (ironically, their expectations for normal levels has dropped it seems). Personally, I've been working on a level since August, and it's getting closer to being finished, but it still may be a few weeks. I can only work on it intermittently, so this exacerbates the problem. For those who try to create a new level every week, they will tend to find that their levels don't have the same wow-factor of creators like Julesyjules, mrsupercomputer, Morgana, et al who create levels over a span of months.2009-12-10 20:39:00

So.... a true mark of a good level designer... hitting the 170 hour bug.

I think he's just talking about the cool levels. Cmon man, cool levels have almost always sucked.

MM Picks, Community Spotlights, levels by respected authors. They're out there.

Thought it was 160....
Anyway I'll just add on to what everyone has said. Lots of new creators are popping up and I'm looking forward to seeing more from them.
The likes of ruof, nipo123 and others have only begun creating and show great promise. It takes a long time for good levels to be made. It takes very little time and effort for jeriko to vomit up another floaty challenge.
Levels are still expected to come from the very best... and comphermc too

...y-y-you have to be kidding?

Seriously, no offence, but you are not the one to criticise the cool pages for being empty and lacking any originality. As for LBP 'dying', no, I personally think it hasn't died. Yet.

Sorry if I sounded harsh.

Except the fact that sony would see no profit, and cut off future support.

but yeah, how could lbp be dying? O-o

I should be releasing a level around this weekend! Been working on it for almost a week so i think it should be quite good (i hope!!!)...

I think ur reference to dying is wrong. LBP is constantly growing with new levels (except of course those that get moderated) and u therefore always have the possibility to go back and play the amazing old levels brought out by fantastic creators whilst ur waiting for the new levels to be made! Simple really.

Are you freaking kidding me?

I wouldn't have even responded to this thread, until I saw the level of creators who actually did. I make good, different, or interesting levels and I don't ever have to worry about seeing a spotlight-- because every two weeks at least 10 brilliant levels are released! Probably another 25 levels that just miss the mark, and then the stuff that creators like myself churn-out. Is LBP dying? Move beyond coool pages and you will find we are thriving. So many contests I cant even enter them all ...dying? If you don't have your share of levels to play you may be suffering form ECS (go see a head-shrinker immediately b4 its too late!)

The only thing that could possibly lend any creedence to your premise is this:

LBP instills such rabid addiction I am 'ON' often. Neglecting wife, child, child, child, child, cat-cat-cat, rabbit-rabbit-rabbit. We consume creativity nightly, like a favorite snack.

I need to go decorate my house for Christmas... or... go find a house decorating level

It never left, it just slowed down. Remember that everyone now has Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed II and Brutal Legend.

It's only dead to me because after 3 weeks of cold turkey those insurance company tossers still haven't pulled their finger out of their rectal cavity to honour their agreement and send me a replacement PS3!

As soon as I get my new console I'll be flushing "real life" down the bog so that I can return to 24/7 in create mode, and then nothing will prevent me from unleashing my latest abomination on the unsuspecting community!

What does *censored* mean? The only part of that which I could easily understand were the asterisks

*cough* Anywhom, good luck with those **** butt-nuggets. If you don't get a PS3...You know who to call for some...Business :kz:

Woo-hoo! I've had a letter from the insurance company saying they're gonna send me ?299, since that's the price I originally bought my PS3 for. The PS3 is only ?199 now! It's almost like they're throwing me an extra ?100 to spend on games. Excellent...this is far better than I'd anticipated. I'm comin' home!2009-12-13 02:54:00

It's only 199 Euros?

...Is that a better deal than buying one in the USA, even with currency changes and all?

Getting to the point, LBP isn't dying and it's foolish for anyone to think that it is. Go back to playing your wonderful levels that you can find with a few simple button presses.

LBP isn't dying and it's not something we have to worry about right now. The problem is, that too many people publish crappy levels they made in 2 minutes, so you wont find the real levels. And remember kids: keep creating those levels, but please don't publish them if they aren't good enough.2009-12-16 17:53:00

I hope LBP never dies, but it's a fact that it has lost its "fresh" impression.
I remember myself playing my firsts online levels, and I thought they all were amazing.
This doesn't happen anymore. Someone mentioned a "wow" factor xD, this describes my feeling about it.
Not to mention H4H... or haters I've had to deal with xD I could never imagine that when I published my first level.

I still think LBP is the best game I've ever played. I play nothing but LBP xD But The game needs something new, and I hope water provides new game experiences, like the paint gun did months ago...

I dunno Poms... Every time I need I need a fresh impression on LBP, I play one of your new levels as well as many of the other amazing creators that call this forum home.

..but I think water will be very cool. The biggest baddest thing on the planet to me however has been all the profile space, OC and the other goodies we got with the last patch. Water will be a wonderful mechanic to play with, but the last update was the one that gave me some horribly needed room on my moon to continue my current level.

..but I do have some wonderful things in store once I get a chance to do a level that includes water.

I love your stuff so this is most welcome news!

So yea, water will change the game in some ways and not a lot in others. It will fundamentally change how creators who want to work with it will have to think about their levels. I know in the beta there were only a handful of creators who really had some innovative and fun gameplay mechanics using water. After people work with it more I hope there's more.

As for LBP dying. I don't think so. I am noticing a greater gap between the beginner style levels and the ones that are just at the top of the heap though. Levels seem to be either really good or really bad lately. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I'll take the good for sure.
