Choose how many layers
Archive: 9 posts
How helpful would the abillity to choose how many layers you can play with, using these layers to play on, not just decorate. As i for one do love artisic, detailed levels. Probably upto say 6 layers or whatever is possible/feesable. Imagine creating 5 or even 6 layer rooms/castles etc. The amount of detail you could create would be incredible and the challenges can be even more adventurous also robots/contraptions can be even greater then before I read somewhere when they were making the game they couldn't initially decide how many layers to have. One mm staff wanted 5 and so on. Obviously this would mean the more layers of building the quicker the thermometer rises but i would love this option. | 2009-12-10 15:55:00 Author: dirts7970 Posts: 74 |
While it would be nice, PS3s would die left and right. Too many polygons. | 2009-12-11 18:27:00 Author: Grimdour Posts: 142 |
I wonder why there isn't any lag when I play levels using the 3-D glitch....There are tons of layers in the foreground and background with that glitch. | 2009-12-11 20:24:00 Author: Tomvis Posts: 99 |

I would like this solely for the fact that if I'm making a level that only uses 1-2 layers, I could turn off a whole layer, and possibly save thermo. | 2009-12-11 22:45:00 Author: KlawwTheClown Posts: 1106 |

Well, the glitch doesn't make the thermo grow does it? It should do. It's adding things to the level which will need to be saved in the level's file and then downloaded when another player enters the level. So it should do. | 2009-12-15 11:04:00 Author: adlingtont Posts: 321 |

Well, you are still allowed the same amount of polygons materials, ect.. It is just placed in different, extra layers instead of the 3 regular ones. The thermo will fill up just the same as if it were placed in the regular layers. | 2009-12-15 12:03:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
The game isn't really draw limited, it's cpu-side math limited, all the physics calculations. I just had a thought though... what if they let you use other layers but made each object a maximum of 3 layers thick anyway? That should cut down on a ton of the would-be physics calculations, even though it'd feel limited... people would probably just glue a 3 layer to another 3 layer and negate the benefits anyway. In fact the way the game is designed is to draw tons of complex materials with multiple light sources with little extra cost compared to not. It's all about that poly-by-poly collision. The layer seperation is just a really practical way to cut down on it, it's much easier as a 2D problem, and it's much easier when you can cancel out potential collisions early. | 2009-12-15 16:27:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
