Or maybe the background could be divided in 2 part :
the top for the earth (beach/town/port) and the bottom for the underwater part (coral reef etc...)....

Something like this :
http://images.gamekult.com/blog/imgdb/000/000/435/014_2.jpg

Maybe limited in terms of height, don't know...
but it could be cool, like 2 backgrounds in one!

But if you had a moving background, what would happen if you raised the water level? I've never seen too many seagulls flying underwater...

You know how when you change the lighting, and you have a "Gardens" theme, you hear crickets and frogs instead of birds and dogs? What if when the water level is above where seagulls fly, something similar happens, but more visual. Instead of Seagulls, you get fish.

OR or they could also be there floating minding their own business like regular seagulls do...but i like the fish better...maybe even add a flying fish to see something different

also just a little off topic i wonder how the game would be if they had realisitic animals that you could add in game? i mean wouldnt it be cool to have a whale swim by you and you can tweak it's motives for bein in the level and such...or it could be a cool item to have swimming around and minding its own business and such

but back on topic i can't believe this is coming out....really nice...disappointed once again to see no Final Fantasy pack tho almost moved to tears soon

no; this is the discussion for what will be in the Pirates of the Caribean pack as a group of new trophies have been discovered, We know for certain;
It has at least 5 levels.
It has 1 minigame.
It Includes Water.
It includes new magic mouth sounds.
There are some new costumes.

We are all speculating that it will come out either 17th December; or 22nd December because of something that has been posted on various websites. We see sense in this because it was around the time that the MGS Pack was released.

Finally water is coming for the masses

I'll have to get my PS3 back off my dad as I lent it to him to play uncharted. I'm addicted to COD:MW2 on the XBO360 atm and lbp was getting no love from me for the first time in the last last couple of years and it's the only game I play the PS3 for...

This will get me back for the MM levels

Great Gif!
The mini game is something about diving, and i think it will be awesome, like all the levels! I loved PotC, and i'm waiting for this pack, so i can show my One Piece based water vehicles to all the community!

They probably will, might feel a bit out of place in the world of LBP outside of the levelpack but there ya go.

Not if they use the "Pirate's Life for Me" theme. That would be epic.

EDIT: I'm pretty positive the pack is coming the 17th. Sackboy's Facebook even says he's looking around for his pirate costume.

Recalling from the Asian leak, the 17th was the Sonic DLC release date.

Doubtful they would put up two DLC packs when we all know if they did, which one of the two would be the more popular one.

Nobody knows for sure at this point, but my guess is water will be a part of the pack just like Paintinator was part of MGS.

As for music, I'm listening to the soundtrack right now. I think Underwater March would be a really great piece for water and pirates both! So I'm betting on Underwater March.

Water. Is. Not. Free. It will be released as a feature in the Pirates pack and thus will cost the low, low price of $5.99, ?4.79 or ?5.99.

Think of Water as the Paintinator. It is being released as the level packs "feature" in which all the levels will use said feature in its design.

We will probably be getting some hanz zimmer music along with it which might be too recognisable in the end but fun anyways.

I would LOVE a hanz zimmer music pack =D I think having the POTC theme in this pack would be a bad decision since people would only use it for POTC levels. I think that Media Molecule should make their own interactive pirate music.

I gotta say, it would be awesome if this tune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB23lHVf9dI) was in the pack though

As for water being free, LittleBigPodcast seemed quite sure that it would be released in a separate pack in their newest episode.

I personally think that the POTC pack would loose it's shine for a lot of people if water wasn't included in it.

You shouldn't believe LittleBigPodcast. I will bet an incredible sum of money that you will pay for water and all the switches in the PoTC level pack.

It would be like having you pay for MGS levels and then making you buy the Paintinator and Paint Switch seperately. It just doesn't make sense.

No offense, but I don't really see the reasoning behind your statement..... just because the MGS pack contained only pieces from the games, doesn't mean they were limited for just MGS levels, and I saw them used everywhere! I mean, Encounter is a PERFECT battle song.

Argument number 2; The POTC main theme, He's a Pirate, or even so, the Tiesto remix of it that you posted, would make an excellent Int theme. And the Kraken theme would be an excellent stand-alone piece- It's structure is very similar to that of Batlle on The Ice, so they could be used for the same situation.

Argument 3; I fear that, if MM were to make their own music for this pack, that instead of sounding along the lines of The Chrysalis of Time, which in my opinion is an epic piece, it would sound more like Party Ghouls, and I know I'm in the (strong?) minority when I say I really didn't like that one. So this argument is more like personal but whatever.

But yeah. Hans Zimmer pack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN5ExwsXUiQ, but I just hope it's included in the POTC pack because POTC is nothing without Hans

Until it's confirmed by Sony or Mm, everyone is wrong about the price.

I'm adamant that it will be paid-for-DLC that is in the PotC pack.
But that doesn't mean that I'm right at this moment in time.

Didn't the MGS pack have like 3 tunes in it? I'm sure they will be licenced tracks from PotC, but remixed in sucha way that they work for int tracks. MM are awesome at making music that is great for many purposes. Things like the islands int music, with that cool breakbeat underneath, or wise owl with the really weird sci-fi / electronic stuff.

And mnimmo is right, we don't know how water and the levels are to be packaged or what it will cost. I think the most likely scenario is that both are coming out as a combined pack on the 22nd, costing around 6 quid. On the other hand, I would love to see water separate and free. But none of us know, so until it's announced don't believe anything anyone says - as always

Yes, it doesn't mean you're right, but that doesn't automatically mean everyone is wrong. There needs to be an answer for it to be wrong. So you could also argue that because there is no answer, and you can't be wrong, then everyone must also be right until proven otherwise.

Or something like that, anyway.

Well OK, maybe wrong wasn't the correct word to use there.

But saying that though, how can two people be correct at the same time with conflicting views?

I think the fairest way to go about it is to just concede that nobody knows for sure, so there's no point in arguing until we hear an official announcement.

Free or not free, I'm getting this pack. The trophies imply that there are five new levels, all of which have to have new materials and stickers and such, and possibly new music too! I can't wait.

Why wouldn't we see another creator pack? Again, nothing's for certain, but it would make sense for MM to follow a similar schedule as the first year. Big pack with new feature around New Years/Christmas, maybe a creator pack 4-5 months later, a few medium packs thrown around in between, and a music pack at some point.

I think I'd be perfectly happy with that.

It's just that LBP is getting older... if they wait too long, they may as well save it for LBP2.

But that's just my opinion.

I highly doubt it's "the" background- however, it would be VERY awesome if they decided to throw it in as a bonus. So while we'd get a "main" background, we could get this as well. :O

Regarding LBP 2: After what has been said by MM, I'd expect LBP 2 to be a launch title on the PS4, if it ever comes. The new hardware to utilise, along with an assumed major overhaul in architecture would make it a sensible choice. But there is no way they will stop supporting LBP while the community is still so active - it's just too profitable right now.

@bak: I think most people are assuming something more piratey. Although they could bundle it in as a bonus. Two backgrounds in one pack??? I know, but it could happen

i thought just occurred to me. originally i agreed completely with the thought that water would be ONLY available with the pirate pack. it made sense at the time. but think about this....

Unlike the paintinator, water COMPLETELY changes LPB. it adds so much. yes, they could make a lot of money charging for Water, but do you honestly think they would keep it from people who dont have a credit card or PSN card?

Now, i kinda think they will release it in something like Creator Pack #2. the more i think about it, the more it just seems like it should be, and will be free.

Well, I seriously doubt there will be no LittleBigPlanet sequel. With all of the money LittleBigPlanet has made Mm and Sony thus far, they'd be crazy not to do one eventually. However, based on the activity of the community up to this point, I think rtm223's assumption is fairly accurate - we won't see a sequel until there's some much-improved hardware that they can take advantage of, so they can make some serious improvements to the game. Since new hardware would demand a new game anyway, that would be the best time to ask LittleBigPlanet fans to make the move over from LittleBigPlanet to its sequel. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they used a LittleBigPlanet sequel as a launch title for the successor of the PlayStation 3, since it would help drive initial sales and provide a ton of press for both Mm and Sony.

Obviously, all of this is speculation - don't quote me on it!

I expect water to be part of the new DLC pack only - like the paintinator, I don't think they'll be releasing it separately for those who don't want to pay for it. Mm's gotta recuperate all of the development time and money that went into developing water and the additional content that comes with it, so a small fee of entry (assuming it will cost about the same amount as the MGS Pack) doesn't seem like a lot when you get so much in return.

I'd expect johnee has had a hand in this. I mean he has been working as a level designer for some months now... I'm sure he hasn't just been eating cheese and sipping fine wines up at MM towers 2009-12-14 09:45:00

Lots of news sources have been falsely announcing this from various old quotes from around the time lbp launched (no idea why ) but most recently they confirmed there will be no sequel, they'll just keep updating the original

It's probably best that way. By the time Mm have finished it will have everything

Like others have said, I bet LBP2 will come out on PS4. Maybe we'll get ice back, too. :hero:

Just seen this:

It's just to let you know that on 15/12/09 LBP on PS3 should be unavailable online for an hour starting from 10am. Sorry for any inconvenience but you should be able to get back online around 11.

http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/LBP-General-Discussion/LittleBigPlanet-Scheduled-Maintenance/td-p/9845823

Maybe it has something to do with preparations for the pack? Or might it just be standard regular maintenance?

Well, it could just be regular LBP server maintenance or something. But hopefully it could be something more.

Well nothing really. Just maintenance.

There's no doubting that there has to be a new update shortly for LBP if they are looking to release this DLC for Christmas.

I would say the timing is more coincidence than anything else.

Wow, very cool. I'm pleased. I'd rather see some more original LBP stuff and not so much branded crossover material. The story levels are so imaginative and original.

But that said, this could make for absolutely incredible LBP levels. I'm so excited for this. I can't wait to see what Mm have put together for this.

Didn't the MGS pack have like 3 tunes in it?

Not sure if this has already been said, but it had four. Encounter, The Hunted, The Hunter and the VR one.

I really, really hope it's the 17th, or I won't have long enough to play with it because I'll have my Christmas presents

The LittleBigPlanet DLC packs that add water features to the game and Pirates of the Caribbean-themed goodies will arrive before Christmas, Sony has told CVG.

As reported this morning (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=229340), a list of new trophies have been added to the game that make mention of water and Pirates content, hinting at the arrival of the DLC packs at any moment.
When asked about it, Sony told us: "We're expecting it to launch just before Xmas." It's not an exact release date, but at least you have official confirmation that you'll be playing with new content in LittleBigPlanet before the holidays roll around.

What I found a little weird is that there's not already an (official) annoucement, or a teaser for a pack this big...

Remember the Gosthbusters teaser : like 2 weeks before the release...
For the monster and History pack : a video teaser 1 week before

If it's going to be out next week, before Christmas, as said by Sony,
maybe we'll have a video or something by the end of the week ...or next Monday

Here's something I've thought about that's pretty important...

Someone suggested water would be in creator pack two, with the possibility of premade switches. I don't think that's very likely, otherwise MM probably wouldn't have been so supportive and enthusiastic of the logic pack.

Then again, I'm usually wrong

Well it's almost impossible for it to be in a creator pack- the fact that they're having this pack is almost proof water will be paid for. sides, that was never likely anyway :/

Anyway, yeah we'll be paying for it. If water is somehow free, then... um... I'll give out all my exp away. you heard it here :kz:

with the possibility of premade switches.

This is definitely not the case. Back when we made the logic pack, ConfusedCartman relayed to us that Media Molecule have no plans to provide support for logic beyond the scope of what they have done already (which is not much). Part of the joy of LBP is figuring stuff out on our own, no?

But water opens up a whole new possibility of levels, while the MGS pack merely had the paintinator. Something this big should be free of price for everyone.

It wasn't free to design, code and test. As much as people would want it to be free, it would be financial suicide for Mm to do so. I am convinced the man-hours involved in making and testing water were not negligible.

It doesn't matter what it "should" be, it matters what will be. Why would they create a pack and sell it, yet not include the major attraction? This is a business, there's no way Sony would allow MM to give out the main attraction for everyone.

Besides, the paintinator is definitively a bigger addition then water. Water can only be used in "water levels". The Paintinator created a gun that could be used interchangeably in levels, not to mention adding lifebars that, when used with emitted paintballs and all that, opened up large new fields of logic.

And yes, it "should" be free- that doesn't mean that MM would go through the trouble of packaging an accompanying pack, and then give away the major feature of the levels? I highly doubt Sony would do that.

A lot of work goes into stuff like this. It's only fair they get paid, right?

Plus, everyone can still enjoy water, because you'll still be able to play the water-based levels, just not create any of your own.

At least the patches have all been free!

Yes, you have a point. And like someone said, something that costs will be limited to those who can afford it and will lessen the amount of "OMG THE WATERZ RIZING!!11" and the "WATER BOMB SURVIVAL, HIGHEST GETS H4H".

And by that argument the man-hours of making and testing online create and the netcode updates from leerdammer were negligible? The man hours involved in the various bug fixes, enhancements such as create pack 1, all the miscillaneous updates we've had... they were all negligible?

The DLC business model that MM are following does not work along the lines of cost to produce is proportional to sale price. The costumes they sell are not worth that much, those things are way overpriced so that other things can be provided for free.

Following that business model, it is perfectly possible that water will be free. A hell of a lot of people would still buy the levels for the levels themselves and the bonus content that comes with them. How many times have we had people bemoaning the lack of MM levels? People will still buy them even if water is not part of it.

I'm not saying water will be free, I honestly think the odds are in favour of it being included in the PotC pack. But it certainly would not be financial suicide for MM to provided it free and I still think it's a possibility.

True, you raise a very good point. They have other venues to recoup their losses, but people are usually quick to ask for everything to be free and then quick to complain that costumes are overpriced. Or that there are not enough free things.

Mm have been exemplary with regards to their support of the community, especially considering the rough start LBP had. Not only have they continued to support the game for over a year and actually taken the time to listen to the community's concerns, they have also given some of their work away for free.

If they decide to make water free, we should be thankful of their gift. If they decide not to make water free, we should still be thankful. Anyone who thinks badly of them for not making water free should forever be denied their peanut privileges.

Edit: While on the subject of peanuts... while we could continue to debate on water being free or not, we should also be debating on who deserves to get Rocksauron's exp if it turns out to be free.

Oh I definitely agree people moan too much about how not everything is free. I'll be buying whatever packs come out, even if water is separate AND costs a small fortune I'll probably buy it and the PotC pack

I just like the idea that MM really go for pushing tools as free items as it drives user-generated content (for better or worse) and that is what keeps people playing the game. Give a sackboy levels and he'll play those levels. Give a sackboy tools to create more levels and he'll get hooked on the game and keep on buying stupid costumes because "they are cute" That's what happens my end anyway...

Plus I want Rock to lose all his XP.

I'm planning on playing MNR Beta and MW2 to pass the time.

That, and making sure I stay in bed AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!

i've tried that, but i had a dream where the potc pack came out early and i woke up.... now i can't sleep... and as for MW2 i can't play due to a small chip in the disc!!!

Um, what is MNR beta???

Oh and i'm not fortunate enough to have MW2 because i'm getting it for Christmas (3 days later) and i feel ur pain josh, i know what u mean. So because of that i am waterproofing all my levels with fake water, to make them ready for the real thing (Gluing everything down so that tidal waves don't destroy my lvl).

MNR= ModNation Racers, I think.

And, with water coming, I can finally make that level I had in my head xD
