A Bug's Life!

Ok Mm. Just release water now and get it over with....

Why would I take such a stance? Well, let's take a look at the evidence. I ask you, why establish a beta and create a class system (the haves and have nots) if you're not even gonna fix the darn bugs!

Since Leer/scowl/d&mn/...errrr:

I have connection issues, freezes and major multiplayer lag... I have been booted more in the last two weeks than in all the previous 5 months.

I've got soft-bottomed levels, level bottoms that just drop-out, misbehaving stretchy pistons, cardboard bugs, sticker bugs, invisible dark matter bugs. My wilderness background quadrupled upon itself (so it was kinda like looking into one of those infinity mirrors), lettering of my pop-it de-rezzed, idk, there's more... basicly every aspect of this game has been affected.

It's not that I am complaining per-se, I didn't think online create would be as cool as it is... but, I'm thinking all these problems were present in the beta... they had to be.

So what's the point of the beta? To make a long list and be aware of problems, or fix'em. Because if update 1.21 is the direct result of your beta and is then presumeably, de-bugged. You might as well release water now and let ALL HAPPY GADDERS SUFFER EQUALLY!

I didn't have to wait months-- to suffer through the same bugs friends have been suffering through forever now. And if you're not aware of them, well, nice criteria for a beta boys... who exactly is involved? Can't hardly wait to go for a swim.

But you don't know what bugs were fixed because of the OC beta, do you? So there's no reason to assume the beta was in vain. Which makes this just another whine for water thread. 2009-12-09 16:15:00

You'd be pretty ****** with the result if there hadn't been a beta

And anyway, to be honest it doesn't seem like there's long left before that's over.

You can think what you will of me... I do not care for the general tone of your posts...generally.

I really couldn't care less about water. Yeah it'll be cool. But it really doesn't change the game now does it? I'm in no hurry to get it especially if it is going to break existing levels and introduce dozens of new bugs to an already buggy system... like the 1.21 update has done. Given the present data I have in front of me-- I know:

None of my post have ever been so mundane or pedestrian as to be labeled, "just another... (anything)".

Online Create was released after months of testing with dozens of bugs that clearly while enhancing the 'depth' of the game... have also impacted the enjoyment and ease and ability to 'create'.

Using that as a guideline for my reasoning, water should be as 'half-cooked' as it'll ever be.

Perhaps you misunderstand something about me, I think LBP will be the best game I ever play in my lifetime. I have played more games than anyone. And been doing it longer too... It is only for my love of this game, that I would put up with all thats wrong in LBP ...for when its right--It is so, so right.

This concludes our broadcast-whine.

I'm sure they've been working on water for days and hopefully the final product will be clean. Besides, you have to expect some bugs friendo.2009-12-09 17:06:00

If you're in no hurry, and you hate bugs, then I'd expect you to demand that water be delayed. If nothing else, at least that would be refreshingly novel.

Testing something complex like LBP is like cleaning up a shattered glass. You pick up most of the remains pretty fast, but you can still come across a shard years later.

Gravel has a good point though guys. I'm sure that the beta testers squashed several bugs, but in the end, MM left in some things that they knew about, such as comphy's cardboard one.

While i'm not entirely sure i'd want this released early, it would be nice if they did a better job squishing them.

What's happening is that they probably found out about most bugs with their own testers. And they probably collected more than you will ever face.

Things is, after that they need to make it a priority list. When the bugs they consider "major" are out of the way, they might release the patch so people enjoy it. If they corrected all bugs before getting it out, we wouldn't even have leerdammer yet.

Betas like this are usually for getting "an extra confirmation" from people that certain bugs exist and also to check if they are really that frequent and major. Most of time it falls in line with what the dev thought and nothing much is having time to change between the beta and the release. (besides major bugs).

Also, keep in mind that even a patch or mere DLC needs to be submitted to Sony for approval. This takes time and money. At the moment you're in the beta there are great chances that content is already sent to approval. If it's then approved, they won't mess up too much with it anymore before releasing it because they don't want to risk releasing something "more broken".

Developing an releasing stuff for a game isn't easy as some of you make it sound. It's serious business, it takes time and even some bugs that looks stupid to players can be DEEP stuff to fix and this can be long and risky.

Hey Ranger-- I saw you were feeling prophetic in another thread... I know what you mean, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with my thread or points listed therein:

I called it first people!
