New Cardboard Bug

Archive: 13 posts

Hm... It seems the beta has brought a few bugs along with it. Since the bug is now released (via Leerdammer), I don't think that this violates the NDA...

Anyways, there is now a bug with the combining of certain materials in certain ways. Sound vague? Well it is, but it's a problem that you may encounter. There are nine of the cardboard materials (tin foil and green are not included) that are affected by this. The basic idea is that some of these cardboard materials fail to combine as they should.

Now, this is only a problem when the material in question was "Material Changed" to the offending material. Say, for example, I take a chunk of Dark Matter and change it to Sandpaper. Now, selecting the sandpaper material and drawing a line through the [former Dark Matter] Sandpaper chunk, they will not merge as expected.

I haven't done any thorough testing, but it happened when I was using regular cardboard last night. I haven't had the time to make sure all of the other "bad" materials did the same thing, but I do recall that they were all of the cardboard variety.

So, if this happens to you, just change the material temporarily to something that is not cardboard, and the change it back when you are finished.

Cheers!

So, if you click and drag place a piece of cardboard into a object, it won't glue to the object like normal?2009-12-09 04:17:00

It will glue, but it won't combine. I've confirmed that it's all of the cardboards but tin foil and the green cardboard. That makes nine.

It's not a huge bug, but it's super-confusing problem when you encounter it.

I suppose you tried with all other types of materials to make sure it's not a general material changer tool bug?

Noticed this bug too. It's particularly annoying if you're like me and make almost everything out of cardboard. 2009-12-09 09:46:00

Well, I did when OC was in the beta. Like I said, it doesn't happen with all of the cardboard materials, so it appears to be the same bug.

Well tin foil is arguably not cardboard - what with it not having physical properties of card. Can't think what this green material is though.

Anyhoo, anyone else thinking it's really poor show that bugs reported to them in the beta aren't getting fixed? Surely everything reported should have been on a checklist for the final formal testing before release? Ahhh well, it wouldn't be LittleBigPlanet if there weren't a few creepy crawlies lying around the place

Yeah, sorry - I forgot the name of the green one. It's the one that was used for almost all of the advanced and intermediate Logic Pack levels. [?]2009-12-09 11:49:00

Maybe we should ask the guys who made that? I'm sure they were paying attention.

*wracks brain*

Didn't we use the MGS cardboard?

If he IS thinking of the MGS cardboard, it's kind of a grayish color, not green. The little snapshot they give you is misleading.2009-12-09 12:20:00

Uh... That's the one!

Yeah, the picture was green... Can we agree on greenish-gray?

I'd say it's grayish-green

So the MGS material is not affected by this, right? I ask because my current project uses it extensively and I'm gonna need to do a LOT of merging

That is correct. A simple test should exhibit this. Even if it did, it just requires you to temporarily change it to something that doesn't have the bug (like plain wood), in order to make the merge.
