The Guide to Acing Levels

Archive: 16 posts

No, I don't know how to either.

Anyway, just post here what you guys think is a good suggestion, level-specific or not.

Me first.

Take your time. It's not a race, and analyze what you need to do.
If you die and revive at a checkpoint, don't restart the whole level immediately. Run through it anyway as a practice run.
If you're getting frustrated, quit. Frustration leads to reckless moves and that leads to Sackpeople dying. Do you really want that on your conscience? Just do another level and get back to it once you're in the mood.
Don't take unnecessary risks like the 2-player bombs on Boom Town. You're acing the level, remember?
Do it alone. Sometimes having someone else isn't really helpful, ESPECIALLY if you don't know the person; I've come across too many Punchy Peters and Grabby Gabriels and one cheeky swipe can send you flying into a fiery pit of doom.
Timing. Watch whatever you're going against closely for a few minutes and find a pattern. All creators should know everything is in sync unless stated otherwise.

Now everyone post your own, and discuss.

Good topic idea, this'll help a lot of people. Here's my 2 cents.

-This should go without saying: JUST KEEP TRYING! You shouldn't give up, even if you get frustrated. Taking a break is fine, but remember, the more you play it, the better you get. This worked for me when I spent about 3 hours daily for a week trying to ace Boomtown. It works.

Absolutely right man. I've found it's almost impossible to ace a level playing with another person unless that person's a whole lot better player than you. But even then, with the multiplayer camera going, it's going to be a lot tougher.

Thanks for the list, it's great.

How about don't do it at all? Here's a cheap trick...

Get someone who's already aced it to play with you. Turn your controller off and get your friend to pass it for you. Before they land on the scoreboard, turn your controller back on.

Forcing your friend to do is pretty jerk-like of you. Id rather play through The Bunker seventeen times, and dying on the last electric light near the scoreboard twice within that process than have my friend beat it.

come here and ask for some tips, and go on youtube, someone made a vid on how to ace the boss, like the pattern, the bunker.
and like said above, for ANYTHING(even non-LBP related) take your time.

Joining a game denotes one life from a check-point. Making this suggestion invalid.

And even if im wrong on that one...

If your that much of a trophy-whore. Well, I have no respect for you. 'Nuff said

And I apologize in advanced if whore is not an acceptable word to be used to describe those kind of gamers. It flys on Xbox Live.

Yes, you are wrong. It works.

Nor have I asked any of my friends to do this for me. I've aced every level on my own merit legitimately. I only suggested this method as a last resort for those who get overly frustrated like some of my friends who have played the bunker a hundred times with no luck. Only then have they asked me to help ace it for them, in which case I have.

I have no respect for you if you can call someone you don't even know a trophy-whore. In which case your "apology in advance" doesn?t mean a thing.

Aceing levels is not all that difficult to be honest. It is those few though ( The Collector Boss for one ) For me it was all motivation to get that sweet costume addition at the end of the level. Like you said it is best to go at it alone and not frustrated, but some motivation doesn't hurt either 2009-12-09 01:39:00

I've got a level-specific tip or two;

Sensei's Lost Castle: With the Mini-sumo pair, wait in the middle and time their jumps. Just as they land, jump on them. Then go straight to the middle to face the big Sumo, then take out his *** brains (lol). Then go left and hang at one of the lanterns until his head brain i directly below you. The rest is easy.

The Construction Site: At the boss battle with Ze Dude, stay at the right side of the screen. The bouncers will kill themselves if you do that, and with Ze Dude himself, when the floor tilts your way, let go and head for the wall; it dissolves as soon as you get there. Just stick there and when it tilts the other side, get close to the middle and wait; the fireball will angle itself towards him as he goes left.

The Terrible Oni's Volcano: This is easy once you avoid the giant knife. Oni's fireballs have a blind spot near his mouth. Once you use the lever, run towards there and wait; the dagger won't reach and you'll be fine. it will take a while since the fireballs push the lever the other way.

Act Five: The Level Factory: First, aim high and tap RAPIDLY. Chances are if you're hitting the target, you'll hit the missiles mid-flight. Watch closely; REX has an astounding number of blind spots but they go as fast as they came so you need to keep moving. For the giant laser, again aim high and stick to the wall. Then when you're on the pedestal taking out the head, jump as soon as the plasma flies over your head and shoot rapidly. Repeat until it blows up.

Here is a little something that helped me:
I painted myself white and got neon.
It helps to know where your sackperson is.

Yeah, I did this with my buddy the other day for the Serpent Shrine. Works like a charm.

It helps, but really if you're alone you shouldn't need to do so unless you're in a dark level, where you won't be in Story Mode.

I'm gonna give this a try and see if it works. Thanks

Yeah turning off your controller and back on again works so here's a very cheaty way of acing a level:

When you're about to die (possibly falling to your death) pause the game, turn off the controller, wait for it to completley turn off and you will see it zoom back to the last checkpoint, then turn it back on you will re appear in the checkpoint but without it counting as a life lost (It takes away from the checkpoint but doesent affect acing)

While that is helpful, I myself won't use this.

I'd rather ace the level by skill and a hint of luck. Does it work as you're dying i.e. while being shocked?

I don't think it does, that would be my guess... But if you're falling there's plenty of time to hit the start button..
