Just build a winter fairytale level with someone else, then you can enter in pretty much all contests going on right now. ^.^

I'd build a Jack and the Beanstalk level. Just gives you so many possibilities for puzzles and platforming.

Don't worry - after discovering how similar this one is to the one we're running (purely coincidence!) I decided to extend the deadline of our Online Create contest until February 14th to allow us to get out of the way a little bit. Hopefully this helps alleviate the "contest saturation".

Have a really good idea but are we aloud to enter with 2 people?

they can't stop you but at the end of the day that level's going to have to be published under ONE account and if that person wins the that ONE person gets the crown...they won't make 2 just because someone else was co-creating....at least that's how i see it

Fairytales to choose from:

Cinderella
Jack and the Beanstalk
Hansel and Gretel
Sleeping Beauty
Rapunzel
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
The Princess and the Pea
Little Red Riding Hood
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
The Frog Prince
The Gingerbread Man
Peter and the Wolf
The Adventures of Pinocchio
Three Little Pigs
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
The Golden Goose
The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs
Puss in Boots
rumplestiltskin
billy goats gruffLame, there are much more stories.
I wanted to do "The girl with the sulfursticks"
Best x-mas/fantasy story ever.

Also,
how to change a fairytale the least creative way into lbp:

1) Key characters from the original fairytale story replaced with people from the
Media Molecule team and famous people from the community of LittleBigPlanet and other people involved with littlebigplanet.
2) Key parts of the original fairytale story replaced with the story of the rise of
Media Molecule and LittleBigPlanet.
3) Names of the level can be changed to something of littlebigplanet, for example: Alice in LittleBigPlanet.
4) You can put LittleBigPlanet logos in your level to get the right atmosphere.
5) Change the location of where the fairytale takes place, the fairytale castle can be the Media Molecule head quarters?/me does no longer want to join.

Especially number 4..
thats so.. *nods head*
Acreative.

We had to select some of the most popular stories because a) they are the most popular and b) we can't read all fairytales ever written. That why it's a limited list.

As for your second quote, those are just suggestions. It says "For example:" right above it.

Most popular stories?
You just took the average brother grim/disneystories.

So you just let out some of the other good writers?
edgar allan poe, Hans christian Anderson?
Hans's "Match girl" or "girl with the sulfursticks".. ask your grandmother about it,
if she knows it her face will get all serious and tells you from the bottom of her heart how beautifull that story is.

I really think you took the easy way out.

I'm sorry, but as I said we had to limit it. Those story we chose are widely known and should give pretty much everyone a chance to enter. We are no robots so it's entirely possible that we missed a few good fairytales. 2009-12-09 11:43:00

then at least read it,
this shouldve been in your education

Girl with the sulfursticks:

It was terribly cold and nearly dark on the last evening of the old year, and the snow was falling fast.
In the cold and the darkness, a poor little girl, with bare head and naked feet, roamed through the streets.
It is true she had on a pair of slippers when she left home, but they were not of much use.
They were very large, so large, indeed, that they had belonged to her mother, and the poor little creature had lost them in running across the street to avoid two carriages that were rolling along at a terrible rate.
One of the slippers she could not find, and a boy seized upon the other and ran away with it, saying that he could use it as a cradle, when he had children of his own.
So the little girl went on with her little naked feet, which were quite red and blue with the cold.
In an old apron she carried a number of matches, and had a bundle of them in her hands.
No one had bought anything of her the whole day, nor had anyone given her even a penny.
Shivering with cold and hunger, she crept along; poor little child, she looked the picture of misery.
The snowflakes fell on her long, fair hair, which hung in curls on her shoulders, but she regarded them not.
Lights were shining from every window, and there was a savory smell of roast goose, for it was New-year?s eve?yes, she remembered that.
In a corner, between two houses, one of which projected beyond the other, she sank down and huddled herself together.
She had drawn her little feet under her, but she could not keep off the cold; and she dared not go home, for she had sold no matches, and could not take home even a penny of money.
Her father would certainly beat her; besides, it was almost as cold at home as here, for they had only the roof to cover them, through which the wind howled, although the largest holes had been stopped up with straw and rags.
Her little hands were almost frozen with the cold.
Ah! perhaps a burning match might be some good, if she could draw it from the bundle and strike it against the wall, just to warm her fingers.
She drew one out??scratch!? how it sputtered as it burnt! It gave a warm, bright light, like a little candle, as she held her hand over it.
It was really a wonderful light.
It seemed to the little girl that she was sitting by a large iron stove, with polished brass feet and a brass ornament.
How the fire burned! and seemed so beautifully warm that the child stretched out her feet as if to warm them, when, lo! the flame of the match went out, the stove vanished, and she had only the remains of the half-burnt match in her hand.
She rubbed another match on the wall.
It burst into a flame, and where its light fell upon the wall it became as transparent as a veil, and she could see into the room.
The table was covered with a snowy white table-cloth, on which stood a splendid dinner service, and a steaming roast goose, stuffed with apples and dried plums. And what was still more wonderful, the goose jumped down from the dish and waddled across the floor, with a knife and fork in its breast, to the little girl.
Then the match went out, and there remained nothing but the thick, damp, cold wall before her.

She lighted another match, and then she found herself sitting under a beautiful Christmas-tree.
It was larger and more beautifully decorated than the one which she had seen through the glass door at the rich merchant?s.
Thousands of tapers were burning upon the green branches, and colored pictures, like those she had seen in the show-windows, looked down upon it all.
The little one stretched out her hand towards them, and the match went out.
The Christmas lights rose higher and higher, till they looked to her like the stars in the sky.
Then she saw a star fall, leaving behind it a bright streak of fire.
?Someone is dying,? thought the little girl, for her old grandmother, the only one who had ever loved her, and who was now dead, had told her that when a star falls, a soul was going up to God.
She again rubbed a match on the wall, and the light shone round her; in the brightness stood her old grandmother, clear and shining, yet mild and loving in her appearance. ?Grandmother,? cried the little one, ?O take me with you; I know you will go away when the match burns out; you will vanish like the warm stove, the roast goose, and the large, glorious Christmas-tree.?
And she made haste to light the whole bundle of matches, for she wished to keep her grandmother there. And the matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day, and her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful.
She took the little girl in her arms, and they both flew upwards in brightness and joy far above the earth, where there was neither cold nor hunger nor pain, for they were with God.
In the dawn of morning there lay the poor little one, with pale cheeks and smiling mouth, leaning against the wall; she had been frozen to death on the last evening of the year; and the New-year?s sun rose and shone upon a little corpse!
The child still sat, in the stiffness of death, holding the matches in her hand, one bundle of which was burnt.
?She tried to warm herself,? said some.
No one imagined what beautiful things she had seen, nor into what glory she had entered with her grandmother, on New-year?s day.

just for the "beep" of it.

I heard that story when I was 19 and all of a sudden remembered crying about the story when I was a little kid.
It still touches me (26 years old) and this might be the only story I hold close to my heart.

*feels sentimental*

Are you sure? For the first few posts mods will have to approve them so it sometimes may be a little while before your post shows up. It's a measure to prevent unnecessary spam. A bit annoying admittedly for everyone, but yeah.

Edit: I remember being online when you were there but at that time I didn't see any new posts needing to be approved. Maybe you hit save instead of submit?
Anyway if you still want to post there but have problems just send me a pm.

The h4h label is clearly a joke, and having to have a mod approve your first post (I think it's only one - after that I was fine) is reasonable, if a little unnecessary. For the most part LittleBigLand is nice enough place, it's just a little too quiet for my liking. The save rather than post thing is confusing though!

@Moops - the deal with crowns is largely because people want whatever they don't (and can't) have. That and the exclusivity of them gives ultimate bragging rights when playing online. Media Molecule have done a great job in creating a highly desirable, cost free item to promote competitions IMO.

quoted for truth....only problem i have with it is how most people get them by doing something INCREDIBLE...which isn't so bad...but some people deserve more credit then others...like maybe bakscratch since he discovered the 3D glitch and no one else could pull it off...not even Mm themselves until he told them....but that's just an example...it's all good i guess...just wish there was an easier way

oh and maybe using the moon to announce the crown people would be a bit of a nice thing to do aswell...since they havent updated that piece of rock in decade *exaggerates*

This is a great contest. I considered joining it but I don't have much time and the little time I do have is dedicated to creating my current projects. I'll have to pass on this one. And, I don't see the Crown as being as valuable as before. So many people with bad levels have a crown that it just doesn't feel like a must have item as it once did.2009-12-12 00:39:00

You can win more then just a crown. The winner also gets a PS Eye for instance and second and third get something as well.

I agree that the crown is not that special anymore. There are I think 5 crown competition going on right now.
For me it never really was special anyway, since I don't care about costumes at all.

Hi i have a question, If water is released. can we include that, and also does it have to follow the fairytale or can it be completely inverted and sloshed about in a big jug and poured into a level? For example, Making Hansel and Gretel cannibals? instead of the witch?2009-12-12 10:50:00

Yes, of course water is fine. (As is any glitch you might want to use)
As long as it's still clear on which fairytale the level is based you can change it around, add characters, paint it black and throw it all into a mixer if you want.
Just get creative, simply retelling a story is easy.

So you could do a level which has nothing to do with the original story, except the characters and the basic principals?

AWESOME!

Well, in theory yes, but we do need to be able to tell what story you used. For instance if you would choose Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves and than make a space level in which the space ship is called Ali Baba and each rocket is one thief that wouldn't be enough.

Edit: So yeah, mirroring the original story wouldn't be terribly creative, but we don't want you to simply build anything and name some characters after a fairytale either.
Edit2: I think that would you meant by basic principles anyway.
