Playstation EYE question

Archive: 9 posts

I did a search, both on Google and the forum but haven't been able to find a specific answer to what I would like to know.

What I wanted to know is,according to a post at the LBP site you can use the PS EYE to capture images directly off a computer screen by having it sit directly in front of it.

The LBP site also explained that there is a possibility of having refresh scan lines appear across the captured image as the dreaded black bars.

After looking at the technical specs of the PS EYE,it would seem that it captures single photos at either 1/60th or 1/120th of a second shutter speed, depending on resolution chosen.[Please correct me if I am wrong]

I wanted to know if anybody here has used this method of photo capture successfully, and if so,was there anything specific that you had to do to get it to work.
I'm using a pro level Sony CRT display currently running at 75hz,so I'm thinking that I'm going to have to up the refresh rate of my screen to 120hz, so it cycles through twice before the shutter closes at 1/60th [if that actually is the correct shutter speed of the EYE ]

Any tips welcome.

wow - that's a really technically specific question.

I don't know how others do it but this is how I'm doing it. I've got a MacBookPro Laptop (not sure what the Hrtz is as it's set for me) and I take photos using the pseye without any trouble. Mine are clear but the trick seems to be to get the lighting and focus right. Conveniently the laptop is next to the ps3 so it's easy.

Good Luck getting the technical specs though - it's a very good question.

I think you might hit a black bar anyways.
Because regardless the speed of refresh, if you take the picture at the moment it refreshes you will have black bars.
Take a picture from a CRT in proscan and it won't be problem. Or take a picture from an LCD or Plasma and this will never happen because those aren't interlaced displays.

I did a google search for "proscan",and so far I have found numerous different applications all using the same name ,form Automotive fault detection,MP3 beat detectors, advanced network traffic analyzers etc,the list is huge, but nothing that I could see that relates to screen refresh rates.

The closest possible relevant thing I found were the drivers for the Phillips Vesta Pro Scan web cam.

I'm intrigued ,but as equally confused at the moment.

Could you please clarify what it is I should be looking for?
Or point me in the right direct, with a link if at all possible.
Cheers.

As I understand, the PS3 Eye can capture images and then LBP can use them for stamps. If this is true, what format like jpg can be used to create a user defined graphic for a stamp. And how does one add that to the stamp collection?2009-12-10 02:13:00

Ah actually here's what happens. When you take a picture, its saved as a sticker in your profile in a seperated section automatically so you can use it whenever without having to take multiple shots of the same thing.(your profile is where all your saved stuff is, saved items you made, levels, costumes etc.)

Now I haven't tested this myself with the PS eye but i'm sure just like the camera tool (used to take pictures in game) you can have the option of exporting it to your HDD (as jpg), Then you can use a flash drive to extract the picture.

Oh and if there are any more questions just make a new thread (or use that other one from before) its just easier, and it'll keep things on-topic.

Sorry, my bad. It's "progressive scan", opposite of "interlaced". The reason why there's black bars when you take a picture of an old CRT is because it display 60 half-frame per second in alternance. This means half the lines are refreshed at a time, meaning the other half is black.

In progressive scan, there is no such "lines". The TV refreshed 60 full images per second (60hz). When you take a picture of that you won't have black bars.
