Covers of songs that are better than the original?
Archive: 22 posts
Alot of bands these days do covers of bands that influenced them, and quite a few of these covers are very good, and in some peoples opinions, they are better than the originals... So, anyone here got any covers they like more than the original? For me, this is a better version taht Dio's: Holy Diver - KsE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1O-8ITYYAc&feature=fvsr Holy Diver - Dio (original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj7UBgVVew8 ---------------- Now playing: Killswitch Engage - Declaration (http://www.foxytunes.com/artist/killswitch+engage/track/declaration) via FoxyTunes (http://www.foxytunes.com/signatunes/) | 2009-12-07 17:23:00 Author: Unknown User |

Meh: Umbrella - Rihanna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iQRXuAo6Eg) Better: Umbrella - Manic Street Preachers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G-wZ5uY0_o) The lyrics are still no good. | 2009-12-07 18:21:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Well I think everyone can agree that the DJ Luck and MC Neat version of Lionel Richie's "hello" is by far the superior version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQpGKfVD8TI One that actually springs to mind is lacuna coil's cover of "Enjoy the Silence" by depeche mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx58hXh4pVA | 2009-12-07 19:18:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

But really... every single one of those tracks is amazing. | 2009-12-07 19:23:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
Nothing can be better than Depeche Mode rtm Jimi Hendrixs All Along The Watchtower is far better than Bob Dylans. | 2009-12-07 19:34:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
So I take it from that that you're with on "Hello" then I just prefer the Lacuna Coil version of that song. I did hear that version first though, which I think often makes a massive difference when it comes to covers. | 2009-12-07 19:43:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Not a fan of Mr. Ritchie or garage to be honest rtm, so I can't comment. If I was out on the lash, I'd prefer your version without a doubt. The wife is mentioning Barry Manilow and Take That, but then i stopped listening so don't know the rest..... This is a great thread, I'm racking my brains, and going through the ipod. Does using samples count? | 2009-12-07 20:42:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Arctic Monkeys covering Diamonds are Forever at Glastonbury is fantastic. I'm not for a second going to suggest that it's better than the original (although I obviously prefer it) but it's still a quality cover Especially when you consider it was a bet, and it was performed for the first time whilst headlining Glastonbury! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwlRavoW_RE&feature=PlayList&p=25F72A97C9C986A2&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=35 Watch it! | 2009-12-07 20:52:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
I much prefer Thee More Shallows' version of "I Can't Get Next To You" to the original version by The Temptations. Not that anybody's likely to have heard Thee More Shallows' version though. It's pretty obscure really. Oh...and anyone who suggests that The Scissor Sisters produced a better version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" will get instantly bad-repped by me! I still can't believe those contemptuous bar-stewards actually had the audacity to rape a classic Pink Floyd song and transform it into a BeeGees-esque disco romp! Shocking! | 2009-12-07 21:16:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |

lol... the first thing that comes to mind is "Rock around the clock" Bill Haley's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5fsqYctXgM Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr_w3WPzyXA&feature=related | 2009-12-08 07:04:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
As far as being better, It is all to opinion, but Mindless Self Indulgence's take on "Tom Sawyer" is very well done because they did what I always wanted done to that song, speed it up. I always felt that song was way too slow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq7LvyaxYzk | 2009-12-09 02:03:00 Author: Meta-Armor Posts: 80 |
Trying to incite a bit of a riot here... Coheed & Cambria - "The Trooper" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac3rogp3Tus&hd=1#) (Iron Maiden cover) Iron Maiden - "The Trooper" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXYuPMsThYs&hd=1#) Both beyond epic... | 2009-12-09 02:12:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
Off the top of my head... I like Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal much better than Michael Jackson's. | 2009-12-09 03:08:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |

Velvet Revolver playing Wish you were here live was amazing though. Not as good as the original, but Slash was so epic in that Children of Bodom's cover of 'Oops i did it again' is insane though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d7-2wooB9g The guitar solo is win edit: The youtube tags are [*youtube] and [*/youtube] without the asterix. ---------------- Now playing: Green Day - East Jesus Nowhere (http://www.foxytunes.com/artist/green+day/track/east+jesus+nowhere) via FoxyTunes (http://www.foxytunes.com/signatunes/) | 2009-12-09 16:55:00 Author: Unknown User |
