create mode suggestions.

im not sure if this will make a diffrence, but something I would like to see is... a copy tool for create mode, so you can copy an object without having to capture it. the option to be able to change captured objects ie. lethalizing them/changing size and being able to use object editor if its not what you thought it was when you captured it. A flip tool. so instead of having to make another object the oposit way all you would have to do is flip it and use the same one, or a copy of the same one. Id like to see an erase tool as well. that way if there is an object that is too rough around the edges all u have to do is skim it with the erase tool. this would be fantastic, you could erase as much as needed, smooth edges, and shape objects more freely. so instead of using a grid to erase, the cursor would be free to move around and shape. I would like to suggest a rotation tool. so instead of just rotating the object right or left. you can rotate it across. there 3d objects, they should be able to rotate across. ie lets say theres a square, this tool would allow you to rotate the square in any direction. that way the point of the square could be facing you(forward) or backwards. etc. this would allow a completely diffrent feel for lbp. a more realistic and 3d approach. I would also suggest a single unpause mode. so instead of unpausing the hole scenery, you would be able to highlight an object/trap etc. and unpause just that. so if there are flaws with it it will not mess up anything thats around it. I also would suggest a "paint" tool. allowing you to freely paint with colors. instead of using stickers or just certain colors you would have all the colors to work with. that way you can make your own faces, detail and customization to characters that you make. I can go on and on. Rain for instance. u can make rain but it is looong and tedious doing it. I would suggest a rain option or weather option. that way you could make it cloudy, rainy, sunny or hurricane weather. Right now the only way to make rain is with custom shards, and emitters. sequencing them up right. even water, this doesnt need to be fancy. its the psp, give it the old school mario water effect. this would be greatly utalized for water levels, sewers etc. Being able to stick score bubbles in the air would be great. right now you have to use ropes to get them in place. this is a pain in the ***. and sometimes they do not stay in place where you roped them. they come crashing down if its a rope system. ie one on top of the other roped to gether. it just doesnt work. if we could just paste them in place in the air that would be amazing. another tool I would like to see is a "tack" tool. so lets say you had an object that was launched out with a piston setup, this track tool would let you draw a line from point a-b-c etc. you set the object on this invisible track so when it is launched out it will follow exactly where you want it to go. ie glass spikes etc. this tool would be freely done. so instead of using grids, the track would move where you want it to go. this could help in situations where pistons, rods etc cannot be setup properly, in too small of spaces, or for objects that need to travel long distances. kind of like how they do trick shots for movies. where they track or line is setup to hit in a certain spot, and the object travels to that spot exactly. same thing but for lbp. anyways just some things I wouldnt mind seeing in this game. | 2009-12-05 21:37:00 Author: illius Posts: 4 |
all good suggestions. I like the idea of weather options and the ability to static mode score bubbles. | 2009-12-06 04:21:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
A shall summise with my opinions on each one.. Copy tool- is on the way. Erasing corner -that's what the corner editor is for, once you get used to it it is a lot faster and a lot more effective than any other method. Rotation tool - this just goes against everything that LBP is about really, it is meant to be 2d, being able to rotate in that way just wouldn't work for me. Single pause - could possibly see this being useful, but I think it would take up quite a lot of processing power that could be used better else where. Paint tool - I guess this would be nice, but I think extra features like this are always going to be unlikely. If they aren't present in the ps3 version, I can't see them attempting it here. Rain and weather effects - again I think this is getting away from the psp's capabilities. Such ideas would produce better results in the ps3 version. Water - speaking to Alex Evans about how much processing power water is taking up on the ps3, there's just no way the psp could manage this. Having it as some kind of low quality animating hazard is a possibility, I suppose. But that would kind of conflict with how water is used for the ps3 and I'm sure they want to keep some kind of continuity. Bubbles - I have to agree with this, one of the pieces of feedback I gave to Cambridge was that Switches, Checkpoints, Buttons, Bubbles etc. should have an option to either be static or dynamic. Seeing as gluing can be so troublesome this would take a major frustration out of the game. They have no plans to do anything like it though. Tracker - this tracking idea is actually pretty good (with some refinements) but again I think it is exceeding the capabilities of the psp and would be better fitting on the ps3. | 2009-12-06 16:23:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
And because rotating (other than along the Z-axis) goes against the idea of LBP, it's thoroughly built into the engine, and therefore technically unfeasible, too. I do really agree on some kind of paint tool. Though a free form paint tool seems unlikely, I always wanted some form of repeated stickers on the PS3, and the same goes for the PSP. Should be technically possible: the engine could load the desired sticker in stead of the material's default bitmap. | 2009-12-07 14:05:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
good feedback! I was wondering though, Im fluent in using the corner editor. But when it comes to making characters they look like a child scribbled some shapes and slaped them into lbp. How do I make more precise shapes? It seemes a bit limited, or maybe im trying to get too detailed in making them? I.e. making a head, then body, then arms then legs etc. maybe make the outline instead of the whole body? | 2009-12-08 04:54:00 Author: illius Posts: 4 |
Copy - This is huge. I basically consider the editor unusable until this is implemented. ( I know, they are supposedly adding this ) Flipping - Flipping of copied/saved objects is very high on my list. Sticker Scaling - When you scale an object the stickers stay at their original scale... not acceptable. Stickers should scale with the object. These three items are all very related and are essential to create mode. Any demo of LBP on the PS3 includes these. They create an object, decorate it, copy/scale/flip it and paste it all over the place to quickly populate a level. It's LBP 101. I am okay with most of the other limitations of LBP on PSP with one other exception. Sticker Visibility during corner editing. Stickers completely disappear while you are in corner edit mode. This makes it extremely difficult to cut out a shape. To boot, the stickers drift about based on the bounding box of the shape, they should stay put in world space while corner editing. I don't believe the visibility thing is a limitation of the PSP system, they are visible while scaling an object, why not while editing points? Other suggestions: Editable Saved Objects - I can kind of understand why objects aren't editable even by their creator, perhaps it is difficult to get the PSP to determine who the owner of an object is. Perhaps though, a flag to allow an object to be editable for anyone that uses it. This would allow creators to make their own objects that they can later edit and they can choose whether they want to share them or not, if they do share those objects anyone who uses that item would be able to edit it just as freely as the original creator. Ability to shift an object forward, not just cycle it backwards. Granted, I haven't used create mode much due to it's current limitations, but in the PS3 version I commonly glue a background object to a foreground object by holding down the button to move it forward and gluing it at the same time. Perhaps this can be done in a different way on the PSP version? As far as I can tell you can't glue a background layer to a foreground one only a foreground layer to a background one. Lighting. Yes I understand the PSP is very limited in processing power but even basic control over lighting would be awesome. I don't care about realistic shadows, just a global brightness/tint tool and lights that brighten an area within a certain radius or cone would be acceptable, even if it is some funky 2d overlay effect. | 2009-12-12 00:14:00 Author: Osprey71 Posts: 93 |
