The Recommendations Thread

Archive: 48 posts

Okay, so we don't have a PSP Recommendations Section (and, at this time anyway, don't seem to need one) so I thought it would be good to have a thread where we recommend any levels we have accidentally stumbled upon which we think are worthy of checking out. This is mainly because there isn't a huge amount of levels posted here at the moment.

I did think it may be best not to mention any levels already up in the level showcase section, but then if a level gets buried underneath the recommendation may be helpful, so really I'll leave that one up to you.

Here's a few neat levels I've seen, all from the most hearted section though so you may know them:

Mountains and Fresh Air by tiedtke_469
A great looking mountain area level which while pretty short is pretty fun.

SACKFORMER! by SWAYX25X7
A simple platformer. Nothing special really, I don't get the name, and it's much much too short but still kinda fun and worth a mention.

Advanced Tutorial Level by AceCreator
A great little tutorial into logic. Most experienced lbp'ers probably know all these tricks but it's good for newcomers.

Music Maker v3 by cam5193
Personally I like music levels and this is a remake of an app i used to have on my ipod touch. It's fun and you surprise yourself at how good the little tune you make is.

I'll add more as I come across, your turn guys

If this hits off well it could become a handy sticky maybe?

I was thinking of making a thread like this and yours popped up all of a sudden =P

The Collectors Christmas: A Visit To The Lair by tiedtke_469

Short but fun little level. Nicely designed for the most part, and was a good platformer.

Santa's Christmas Trouble by absolutedesign

A video of this was uploaded by JKThree, so I hope this isn't redundant. This was a great level with a decent length. Overall very fun.

Also editing the author of the advanced tutorial. The one i played was someone who published it trying to claim it their own >.> Lame. No wonder it didnt fully work.

I've got to say, some of the levels I see in the works are epic... I hope mine doesn't get lost in the works so...

Eureka! A Sack Full of Adventure. by Sackrates (PSN: Ramnok)
A fun level that is a bit lengthy but still a fun platformer!

The Right Stuffing by Taffy (PSN: tsr13)
It was a simple level yet fun in design, it did things I didn't realize was possible with the LBP PSP engine, good stuff a must 5star heart!

I have to admit, I was not the biggest fan of that level. It was really cool at first and felt super unique, but about half way through it feels like the creator ran out of ideas and just started throwing in every basic platforming obstacle. It didn't feel like there was any kind of cohesive structure as it didn't fit with the theme. For instance there was one room where you had to work your way around a whole bunch of floaty material and another where you had to grab a whole bunch of dissolve to make each piece disappear. It would have been brilliant if the platforming and obstacles were built around the concept, but unfortunately few were. I would still recommend it as, despite its flaws, it is still one of the better levels available, but I would by no means say that it is worth 5 stars or even the only level that deserves 5 stars.

Now if you want some :star::star::star::star::star: levels, check out;

The Right Stuffing & Apollo 13.5: Sacks In Space by tsr13

I just played a delicious level!

Go Japanese Cake Level by Nackl

Because it's Japanese, the text has been replaced by a bunch of underscores, which is a shame because it probably had a wonderful story to go along with it...

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did,

I just played it too, and I totally recommend it. Too bad that we can't understand the texts, but visually is one of the best levels out there.

Yesterday, I discovered a gem while checking the latest levels. It was totally unexpected, as it's the first time that I played a level that good that doesn't come from a forum.

The title is: The Ancient Sacktroya and it's a very good Tomb Raider-ish level, with lots of exploration, secrets, platforming, some puzzles and a boss battle. The way I like it, hehe. Special mention to the superb decorations, with a stunning use of stickers.

Congratulations to the creator!

I found a few to add to this list:

Metroid: Sackboy and Samus by spark151
I have never played Metroid (yes, I know I'm lame) but this looks like a very faithful recreation. There are lots of not-too-difficult bosses all around the level that are just spectacular, and the level is very fun to explore. This creator really has a lot of patience and knows what they are doing when it comes to the corner editor. There's a lot of backtracking throughout the level to find new areas and unlock doors, and it's really a lot of fun to play. Definitely check this one out when you get a chance.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ by abchits
Presumably Japanese because of the underscores, this is a new take on "bobsled" levels. You start off by climbing a HUGE mountain with a series of cute little snowmobiles, then go for a wild ride back down the mountain and through some truly beautiful caves. This simple, relaxing level is a blast to play and a must download for everyone.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ (aka Spy in the Horror House) by Deesilvernoid
This is a truly fantastic haunted house experience with jaw-droppingly good sticker work thoughout the entire level - it's unbelievable! There's something of a story going on, but sadly it's impossible to tell what it is. You enter a haunted house (or perhaps Dracula's castle) and encounter a wide array of ghastly and ghoulish residents. Dodge eyeballs falling from skulls, get chased by Frankenstein, grab onto a severed hand, and watch out for the cute lil' bats! There's humor throughout and a great boss fight at the end followed by a nifty little graveyard full of (optional) prizes. I honestly have no idea why this isn't on page 1 of 'highest rated'.

PLANET LAND _ _ _ _ _ by pinkzep
This is basically Wiggler World on the PSP. For those of you not familiar with Wiggler World of LBP PS3 fame, it's an open-ended theme park where you ride a series of whichever rides you like. There's a roller coaster, a rocket ride to the moon (and gravity drop), a water slide, and a ferris wheel. Everything is very well done and enjoyable. This is a nice break from platformers and an easy recommendation for anybody looking for something a little different.

LBP _ _ _ _ _ _ 2 by GON2ndG
This is another non-level that's just fun to explore and enjoy the scenery. I don't think people "get it" otherwise it would be rated higher than it is. You basically just visit an aquarium, but the fish are absolutely amazing! They swim around realistically, move their fins, and are immaculately constructed. There are large, unreadable speech bubbles by each tank that apparently contain information about each fish, but the only parts I can make out besides the underscores are little tidbits like "60cm" or "1m". There's an adorable little cafe upstairs in case you want to have a drink or an ice cream too. Fish I recognize are the arrowana, catfish, piranha (which follows you while you look at it!), eel, and a set of shark jaws. There are also a couple of fish I don't recognize (because I never studied in biology class), and you can even feed a fish in one of the exhibits. Download this and enjoy!

Sandcastle by unitedstates12.

Really nice visuals and a fun level in general. There's only one section that I didn't like and that's a wobbling platform made out of glass material near the end. There's no gas cloud or anything beneath it so if you fall you have to kill yourself. And the checkpoint is a bit farther away then it needs to be. Otherwise it's a fun level.

I would like to recommend a brilliant level i found.

Name: Trials of the treasure god
PSN: XenonHMW

But be warned. Its unbelievable hard (i didnt find all secrets yet and the end is hard to find, too).
You can follow multiple paths, choose your music (which is a great idea in my opinion) and there are many secret ares and fantastic ideas in it (for example an amazing puzzle. If you solve that one you will be super satisfied!)

Just try it! (and try to be patient)

(I contacted the creator and invited him to join here. I hope he will do so!)

Hidy Ho Sackfriends! I don't know if you all already know this, but thanks to a hot tip from StevenI, I just heard about (and played) the first level by geosautus on PSP! It's called Jungle Fever.

I must admit, for a geosautus level, it wasn't quite the "blow your fricking socks off!!!!!!!" amazingness that I was hoping for (and used to on the PS3), but the level is still a lot of fun. I would certainly advise everyone to check it out

PHEW! I thought Sha-ja had finished creating, there was such a delay between his metropolis level and this one. If there was one person I could summon to LBPC, it would be him. One of my biggest inspirations.

I'll be playing this today... MANY times.

"Stone Cold Platformer"

I'm not sure if you guys played this before, but I have to say VELCROJONZE, YOU MUST PLAY IT!
Now your wondering why, but after playing this level, I knew this person played your fun levels.
From the looks of it, he was inspired by you because it looks like a level you would make VJ.

Anyways, check it out, it's awesome.

MrsSpookyBuz has a new level up called Flower Power and it has all the charm and splendid gameplay that has become her signature style.

She also did her Hyper Cube level for psp and calls it Hyper Box, but that one has been out for a while I think.

On a downer, I viewed her profile page and it seems she as left lbpc.

I guess that is why she never promoted these over here on the psp boards.

I know this is very old, but I got stuck in very beginning of the level. What exactly was I suppose to do?

On another note, I found another level:

Cityscape by tojokilla25

No real platforming or puzzle elements, but instead you get really awesome visuals of a city. The level has no real ending, and it's short, but his awesome corner editing skills make up for it.
