"Preloading Game Resources" ......AAARGH!!

Archive: 10 posts

Does anybody have any idea what this is about?
I'm seeing it all the time, recently, and it's really getting my goat!
Why on earth, when I'm changing from create mode to and from play mode, does the game seem to want to access the internet for game resources? I know most of us have experienced this at least a few times, while playing, so anyone know why?
Will the problem go away if I disconnect my internet connection on the PS3?
It's just that I've got a slow internet connection, and sometimes I'm staring at the accursed, aforementioned screen for minutes at a time.
Surely, my create levels are all stored on the PS3, along with all materials, objects and stickers, so why the need for download?

If anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it!

I'm not sure why this occurs, but I do believe it's related to your internet connection and the status of the LBP servers. This morning, I was getting the messages nonstop and I had trouble inviting and communicating with others in my pod.

I don't believe you are downloading anything for your level, but instead the connection may exist so that your friends are able to send you invites and messages while you are creating or playing on your own. Unfortunately, if the servers slow down, it appears to slow everything connected to it down as well. I remember that when LBP first launched, there were problems with the servers and this caused rewinding in create mode to take forever!

Since your internet connection is slow, any server issues probably exacerbate the problem, so disconnecting from the internet while you create might be a good idea. But again, I'm not completely sure, so maybe someone else can offer more information.

Yeah the game probably put some settings in the memory and even maybe preloading certain objects and sticker that you didn't buy and stuff like that.
Just so the game is almost loading the settings and stuff of your friend that migh join you any minute.

It came into the game with Yarg back in April and seems to be a replacement for the white screen of long loading we used to have.

Aren't these supplied via game updates?

It definitely seems to waiting to download something. It shouldn't be waiting for invites or connecting to servers to check my friends list when I'm in create mode, surely?
I didn't realise that it was added as part of yarg though.
I've started timing it, and I had a wait of 1 minute and 24 seconds earlier today. It felt like half an hour. It's seriously annoying me!

Sure. But the data isn't loaded up from your hard drive until the game needs it. Or else it would be a waste of precious memory.
I suspect there's a trade off somewhere where they partially load certain types of data "just in case" so if some situation occurs where the game needs to load that same data (like a player joining wearing a costume you don't have in memory because you didn't buy the DLC) then the game loads it very quick since it was partially loaded before.

The whole design of LBP is made on this line of thinking to make the online experience as seemless as possible so I wouldn't be surprised the game does preload stuff thus also give their warning message some sense anyways.

But ultimately, I mean, who knows?

Does anyone out there have a PS3 NOT connected to the internet that sees this screen?
I know that if you're reading this and you've got a PS3, then it's very likely to be connected, but I would be interested to know.

I usually never get it.
It only comes up for a few seconds before going into a level or switching from Create into Play.

Actually you could test that by playing the game while signed out of PSN. You would see if the preload screen message would pop or not.
