Quick question about forum protocol

Archive: 15 posts

I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to ask this, please move it if this is wrong.

Clarie and I are going back through some of the old community spotlights and really enjoying some 'classic' levels. Can we still post reviews of these levels on their 'level showcase' threads or does LBPC prefer old threads to remain closed like some other forums do?

We're playing some new levels too and reviewing them (how great was the giant turnip!) but wanted to check the protocol with reviewing old levels.

Thanks in advance
Adi and Clarie

This site doesn't like thread bumbping but if you want to review the level you could always send the user a PM.

I dont think this is the right place but a mod will move it

Why not? I'm sure people would still like to get feedback and bumping a level thread/spotlight gives other users the chance to play a level they might have missed.2009-12-04 15:16:00

Generally it's bad form to bump really old discussions and news threads. Personally however, in the case of level showcase threads, I don't feel it would be a bad thing to post a review or comments, even if there hasn't been one in a while.

Some threads in the level showcase have never even gotten a single comment...

I will move this to Site Feedback in a moment, but...

As Gilgamesh said, the level showcase is the one area of the forums where it's okay to bump old threads. Anywhere else, it's frowned upon. That said, before you leave feedback, make sure that the creator is still active. No sense giving feedback if the creator isn't around anymore. To check activity:

Go the creator's page, click on the little tab that says 'Experience,' and note his or her activity percentage. If it says 0%, then I wouldn't leave feedback.

This is exactly how I feel. Setbacks was still getting feedback after 3 months and I totally welcomed that. It's still a F4F thread and I'd still honor that too - need a few more posts to catch up to Azure Palace As long as you aren't bumping old levels just to say pointless crap like "gr8 lvl!!!!" and are actually giving some kind of feedback I'm sure the site staff won't mind. If the level still exists the thread is still relevant, right?

Great, I will do that.

How does it calculate the activity? I just ask, because I read a lot of the threads without posting, but my activity is only at 3%. Does it only count posts?

Well, there is a delay in the calculation, and it seems to be determine on an average over a distinct period of time. If you've recently become active, it won't show up right away. Also, you only get posts for making yourself visible (i.e. making posts, blogs, tagging things, rating things, doing site stuff). The actual calculation is a tightly guarded secret, so nobody knoooooows...

Personally, I never look at the activity % to determine if a member is still around. I look at the "Last Activity:" info in the user profile, and if it's not available, I just look at the date of their last post using "Find more posts by this user".2009-12-04 15:52:00

Ah, fair point, Gilg. But what if the person is on vacation!?

Then hopefully their last post will be something like "Hey guys, I'm going away for a few months to explore the bermuda triangle, I'll be back in a couple of mo... hey what's that?"

Yes, I totally agree! It's a nice surprise.

And I agree with bumping being allowed on the Level Showcase. Especially with the F4F element, it may be that members simply have to take a bit of time before they get round to feeding back on the numerous levels.

Yeah!! Me 3!! Plus it is nice to hear from newer members! It also gives them a chance to leave some feedback and share their ideas. Until they come here, they may never have known about or played quite a few levels!
