Clambering Crawlway by Jackofcourse

After many hours of fighting with create mode I have finally managed to get this level into a publishable state. It's been pretty much finished for about a week, but due to a number of bugs things that should work fine kept breaking and by the time I've fixed one thing, something else had broken! Anyway, I finally managed to get the better of it. Hope you enjoy!

It might be 3am for us, but it isn't for the US

I'm a student, I'm not allowed to follow the traditional sleeping hours!

I totally agree, infact I'm staying up all night tonight cause its just not peacful in my house during the day, making it almost impossible to do my work (and I have to do it at home cause the school doesn't have the software I need to do my final project)

But anyway its definetly a blast to play, its just short thats te only problem, but you said you were having problems (could it be because everything is running at the same time?)

Hey I just played this. Having seen the bricks firsthand now, I have to say this : you are one crazy, crazy person.
The effect looks great though.

It's a great level for sure, even though it wasn't too challenging. I found the length to be good and the gameplay was fun and interesting. I loved the "fire burning through the floor" effect, that was very well done. The spinning platforms were also interesting.

I notice that some of the switches suffered from material shifting, though I guess the only thing to be done about that is to remove and replace the switch entirely.
It didn't keep them from working tough, so that was alright.

:star::star::star::star::star: and ♥'ed, great stuff!

Yeah there's the one switch in particular that has suffered from the drifting, but I've replaced them all so many times that I just got to the stage where I couldn't be bothered doing it again. It still works and doesn't really detract from the level so thought I'd just leave it was it was

Thanks for all the feedback.

As for the length, in all honesty this is the length that all my psp levels will be. Personally, this is what I'd be looking for in a psp level, it's something to have a quick blast on while on the bus etc. I don't really plan on creating some long drawn out epic tales!

EDIT: I'm also really glad you have noticed how much effort the brick work would have taken! I soon regretted it after I started!

Wow.... GREAT level, Jack! Even though I'm frustrated by the bugs, this level, Jayden's, and Gilgamesh's levels totally have me stoked.... I'm starting to have a blast!

I have no complaints about the length - developing on that little screen without being able to zoom out and see the "big picture" almost forces levels to be small (although I'm quite impressed with the thermo abilities).

One thing that I think would make this level more aesthetically pleasing - I don't really like the look of the pistons moving blocks up and down - I think it would probably look better if they were invisible and you had some sort of material that looked like it was pulling them up and down.

5 stars and a heart! This is great stuff... thanks for helping make LBP PSP worth having.

You did pick a doozy of the design considering material shifting.... all square blocks! Heh.

The ironic thing is that I usually use the corner editing tool on absolutely everything. It is pretty much the only way to achieve the 'quirky landscapes' that most my levels are made up of.

The one I time I decide to use the grid and do something different...this happens!!!!

Thinking about it now, having that mesh wire stuff above the doors etc would have looked cool. Just with it resetting the plays and stuff when you republish it's a bit annoying

Played it, loved it, hearted it <3

Simple platforming, but it's so nicely presented and it feels new. It's classic Jackofcourse and I'm glad the PSP create mode didn't get you down too long....even if it is horrible to use.

Looking forward to more like this

Wow, it's short but intense. Impressive aesthetics too, it's amazing how you can create such a good atmosphere with just a few materials and barely no decorations. Well done!2009-12-04 19:20:00

Hey jackofcourse,

This level was concise and coherent in a way that stands out from all the rest, with the sculptural charm that's unique to you as an icing on the cake. Although the level was short in terms of length and time, I felt you used space quite well, and I feel every inch (or cm) of the screen was never wasted. I guess "Crawlway" was a very appropriate term in that sense. I'm only saddened that one of the arms of the switches was dislocated...

Anyways, five stars and level and author heart.

Feeling the squares,

Really enjoyed this, 5 stars and a heart.

I finally got to play through your great PSP levels since I finished my first level, and I really enjoyed this one. The level was a lot of fun, and you had some unique mechanics like the fire falling through the floor, which caught my eye. I would agree that it is short, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing considering the level is on a handheld system.

Keep up the great work

I got wifi access at my parents' house so I spent what little battery I had to download lots of levels before christmas dinner started. Loved this level, nothing to complain about, really. Your first PSP level was a little too simple, but this is just as much fun as your PS3 levels. 2009-12-26 15:11:00

Yeah I agree, my first one was definitely too simple. As I have started many times I just threw it together over the course of two nights in the beta

Glad you enjoyed this one. A lot of work went into the 'brick' look of it...in hindsight, the amount of time it took to get that look right, I'm not sure if it was justified considering how it's not that noticeable

Currently making Little Platformer 2, hopefully this should be the level that the first should have been Should be very 'Flaming Timberlandy'

Oh, I dunno, some of that stuff gets picked up on a subconscious level. And ultimately it's justified as long as you like the result.

This level has been featured in IGN's Level Lovers Anonymous picks...so I suppose that deems this bump justifiable 2010-01-17 23:05:00
