Slowdowns : Problem or feature?

So I'm nearing the end of my revamp of Aquabyss, however I've noticed some more slowdown during Play mode this time around (arguably due to the use of the gas material glitch, actual gas level borders, and several new decorative elements).

It's not quite as bad in Play mode as in create mode, but it does lead me to a dilemma. The minor slowdown somewhat adds to the underwater theme, but the illusion is broken when the player reaches a part with no slowdown.

Should I try to correct the slowdowns by limiting the amount of active objects on screen and using different non-gas level borders?

Or, should I try to use the slowdowns as a feature by making it more constant throughout the level? Would this simply annoy the players instead of making the illusion work?

What are your thoughts?

Depends how much the game is slowed down, to be honest. But personally, I've never particularly liked slowdown.2009-12-03 20:31:00

I'm with supasheep. The slowdown bug/feature has always kind of annoyed me... You did a good enough job making your level look like it is underwater - slowdown is not needed to give that illusion. I say get rid of as much of it as you can.2009-12-03 20:53:00

Alright, I'll see what I can do. To be honest, it's nothing compared to the slowdown I have to endure just to add the little decorative touches I'm making, gluing and rewinding takes anywhere from 5 to 10 times longer.

Seems gasified materials don't play well with others.
