Eye of the Tiger (Woods)

Archive: 18 posts

I have seen many criticism on Tiger Woods for his car accident outside of his house. Lately, many news reporter are making "shocking" statements, like he had an arguement, or he was drunk. I personally think they should back off from the guy. I don't see them brag on about how drunk they got last night. I also noticed that they didn't pay much attention to Tiger Woods until something "bad" came out about him. Seriously, why do these reporters look for the bad stuff? Just back off, it's his personal business. So what do you all think?2009-12-03 00:16:00

On a more or less related note I saw CNN world news the day that happened and the presenter described the immediately following show along the lines of "top political experts will analyze todays important events." The important events where in order of importance Tiger Woods being hardly injured, a couple crashing some presidential party and oh, yeah something about the middle east. Turned off the TV after that.
If you have experts on your payroll and describe yourself as a serious news broadcaster this is not how you program should look like. Especially if there is a train crash in Russia with dozens of dead people at the same time and multiple on-going conflicts all around the world.

"Tiger Woods drives in to a tree? He never does that!"

"He can drive a ball but not a car."

The radio was making fun of him, those are some examples of what they were saying. I find it hilarious (the jokes).

That's what happens when you get greedy. You're the best golfer ever and have more money then you'll ever need. You also have a wife (who I'm figuring is hot. She is Ms. Tiger Woods, come on.), yet you still feel the need to go around having affairs with other women.

Smooth Tiger, smooth.

I do feel a little bad for him though, seeing as a normal person wouldn't be having his voice-mails and text messages viewed by millions of people. . but it's still his fault. The media just shouldn't have all this information soooo public.

Well I feel bad for him (and a little bit for celebrities) because he's surrounded by every reporter in the media business, and they just won't leave him alone. I mean what is it with the media ignoring him as a regular golfer, and later come after him when he's finally acting like an American ( lol not the affair part, the car ). They only go after the truoble side of him, which is why people THINK he's a bad person, and has affairs. This is why I hate the media.2009-12-03 22:36:00

I don't see how it is really news at all. There is quite a bit that is more important going on than something more suited for a gossip column. Basically none of my business, but it is sad to hear he is yet another overpaid entertainer/sports figure that can't keep his eye on the ball... errrr I mean his own marriage. 2009-12-03 22:50:00

Well, the affairs (at least one) has been proven via voice mail and so now he's in damage control. I agree it shouldn't be public (and really, who cares?), but when you're making a fortune off the public, you've got to know that when you mess up, it's gonna be public. The truth always comes out eventually. I feel sorry for his wife.

I agree that there are a gazillion more global events worthy of our attention. Our western civilization has become so addicted to voyerism, so that's what they give us. I also agree, jww, that Tiger Woods is overpaid. He recently came out for the Australian Open at a $3m appearance fee, and the sponsors were delighted to get him so cheaply.. it was 'a real investment for the country'. Pft! Whatever. No-one who hits a ball around for a living deserves to be paid that amount.
The end.

That's [kind of] what I'm saying! I think there's more important things in the world than Tiiger Woods business.

I saw on CNN (I think) the news flash, with the anchor man going "Well were going to be talking about Health Care issues and the Obama Dinner's party crashers... but first Tiger Woods crashes his car outside of his home due to an affair!"

When I heard that, I went "WTF!?"

It is said that nature abhors a vacuum. So does the news cycle. If Tiger doesn't fill the vacuum others will with either truth or rumor. He's said this was a "private incident" and that would be true if he had hit is own fire hydrant and his own tree. Since the accident happened in a public space and damged other's property that expectation of privacy is unrealistic.2009-12-04 00:37:00

Tiger's been squeaky clean for so long that this sort of thing was bound to happen when the tabloid media caught that sweet scent of blood in the air. He's finally slipped up and is getting some heat over it. Ask Michael Jordan if he wanted all of his gambling incidents made public; I'm sure he wasn't too thrilled with all of that attention either.

The truth is though that Tiger should know better than this. Allegedly cheating on your wife for a couple of years with multiple women? He expects the tabloid media NOT to have a field day with this? The wreck is behind him now; no alcohol in his system and he had only been taking prescription drugs.

Kobe Bryant (NBA) managed to get past his rape accusation as did Ray Lewis (NFL player) with his murder trial. If they can come back from the brink then Tiger can surely get past his personal shortcomings, right? All of that said, I really could care less what Tiger does when he's off the links...

Ya, but Tiger Woods was the "golden boy". They were always trying to find something on him. The closes was the female golfer's racist joke on him. Now that this happened, they're using this car accident excuse as an apportunity to rant and destroy his career and profile.2009-12-05 02:23:00

How Tiger lets this happen is absolutely beyond me.

So many had come before... all were laid low. We build them up in this country just to tear them down-- just to cheer them yet again after we've had our pound of flesh. It's disgusting and I don't know if I'm ashamed to be American or maybe just human.

I really think this is a perfect microcosm of the question of life... ya know...what are we all doing here? How do you win at the game of Life?

I believe with every fiber of my being that this illusion we have all fabricated is the absolute perfect Eden, and we are all our own undoing. The enemy within is the only true danger to the soul. This is proven everyday in every way; big and small.

I disagree with one part, Sora, of your defense of Woods. The media, (as well as Woods immense talent) paved his life in gold. He is one- if not the top earning sports/entertainers in the world... and his career is no where near being done. The media covers his every move ad nausea. Print, Tv, Internet, Woods is everywhere all the time. Especially considering he is/was a marketable safe squeaky-clean-black-spokesperson. (Playing Golf!?!) That particular combination made him a 'special guy' and as such he used the media to ' Taylor-suit' his own needs... apparently, with the love affair now over-- the Media has called, and wants to see Tigers' cards and what he's holding as his hole card...

Tiger should have known better, in the end its just a single hole, a single bogey. He does that all the time... He'll eagle the next two holes and still shoot under the course record. I wouldn't go feeling bad for the striped-one... he'll land on his feet.

Who said the media never followed him? I meant... well... think of it as a chicken (I know, it's kind of funny and wierd that I'm using a chicken to compare a Tiger [Woods], but just bare it).

The farmer feeds the chicken, until the farmer can get all the eggs from it and to make it more bigger. This is the farmer's and chicken's gain. When the chicken messes up, like it can no longer produce eggs, the farmer decides to kill it for meat. Now it's the farmer's gain and the chicken's loss.

So you know what I mean? The media "fed" Tiger Woods publicity and popularity for gain, and since Tiger Woods gained from it, he didn't worry much. Now that Tiger Woods "messed up", the media is gaining, while Tiger Woods is losing. That's what I mean.
