Resetable Sackboy tracker
Archive: 5 posts
I've been messing around with this for hours now today and am just about ready to give up out of pure fustration and boredom. I'm working on a new level, and need the player to be tracked through "sections", so when they die, they are returned back to the beginning and the area resets. All the logic and everything so far works great. I need to the tracker to reset to the spawn position so that it can register if the player dies again. I've played loads of tutorial levels and they don't explain how to do it. I read a post by rtm mentioning winches and pistons, but no matter what strength or settings I used it won't reset back to the beginning. Any one help me out? I'm using a one piston method, controlled by prox's pulling a three way switch, it tracks perfectly but won't reset | 2009-12-02 14:54:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Hmmm, the winch should be fine. I have two of them in setbacks that do exactly what you need. If you're online tonight I could drop in an have a look for you? | 2009-12-02 14:59:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
That would be great rtm yeah, once its functioning I can build the rest of the level around it. .......................... tracker DM-------------|Prox......Prox| DMoooooooo| The ---- is the piston, ooo the winch. What settings would you recommend for both rtm? The winch is then set to retract when the player spawns and hits another prox. I'll be online tonight if you can't think off the top of your head | 2009-12-02 15:06:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
I'll pop in and answer for you... The winch absolutely needs to be stronger than the piston. It just needs to have a directional input from a sensor switch, and be set to backwards. The max length needs to be long enough to cover the whole tracker area. The timing should be pretty short - but not so short that is causes breaking. Perhaps .5 to 1 second? The winch, being stronger (well, see rtm's blog) will force the object back to the minimum length of the winch, regardless of what the piston wants. I'm sure rtm will sort it out for ya... (make sure that the sensor switch area doesn't cover the tracker area, or else the tracker will never move! Anywhere inside the sensor area will result in the tracker being reset.) | 2009-12-02 15:37:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Excellent compher cheers, I didnt have the winch set to backwards, changed that and it worked straight away. Still have a look in rtm and compher, I'll show you what I'm working on | 2009-12-02 15:58:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
