Vertigo 2 3D

Vertigo 2 3Dfenderjt
Hi all!
I have never put any of my levels in the showcase bit but i am now! So here goes nothing!
Vertigo 2 is set in a world of valleys and mountains, i have used the 100 layer 3D glitch to form a landscape which is rare on LBP. I wanted to create something different, i wanted to make people go oooooooo. lol

I wanted to create something different to my other levels and so far i have Vertigo 1 and 2. I would say that Vertigo 2 is better than 1 but thats my opinion lol.
The glitch takes up most of the temperature in the level which makes the level short but i have tried to add game play, humour, scenery, challenges etc all the ingredients to making a level.

I the usual problems making this level as many people do. For example when you hear a crack sound and you dont know where its coming from! I hate that! But in the end i got everything sorted and have now published it.

Please let me know what you think.

Thank you! I appreciate feedback

Please see below photos i have taken from parts of the level.

Did you take those with the camera of a cellphone or something? Why don't you just use the in-game screenshot tool?

Either way, I already played this and Vertigo 1 (some time ago) and I love both of them pretty much equally. Your Vertigo levels are perhaps the best examples of what one can do with the 3D glitch and showcase how good it can look if you work hard for it.

I hearted both of 'em, iirc.
Got absolutely nothing to complain about.

This was a very good level.... there were nice visuals, and some solid platforming. I do have a few suggestions, possibly for your next level:

- The 3D glitch is fantastic, but don't count on it too much as a foundation for your level. There was no real coherent story, which would have really made the experience memorable. For instance, you're shooting a bee hive, then you're being attacked by a helicopter, then your powering up a life.... there's no connective between it all, which means people will enjoy it but it won't make a lasting impression. Maybe for your next level build a premise.

- The background layers were done nicely, but there was very little variation in the materials - the background layers all looked the same. Maybe work out some snow-capped mountains or different materials for further back layers to give it variety.

I really enjoyed the level, and I think many will be impressed by the visuals and use of the 3D glitch, but if you work on story, materials, and maybe some innovative gameplay I think you could put out a masterpiece.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I will take into account everything said.
On many of my other levels there is a story line but with vertigo I wanted it to be about the scenery, I didn't want to much writing, that's why I put random things in lol.
And as for the random helicopter, well.....its random! haha
All my levels are not 3D I just wanted to try something different, I know the background scenery seems all the same as I haven't added much detail, I didn't want to use up a lot of bar as the level would of been VERY short. Plus it is very difficult to exaggerate the background detail using the glitch. I was thinking of making a snow themed vertigo but I might give the 3D glitch a rest for a while but I do enjoy experimenting with it.

One thing you may want to check out is CompherMC's Thermo thread in the tutorials section. Using different materials in the background will not increase your thermo since the shape complexity is a different thermo than your material thermo.

I have not played your other levels, just the Vertigo levels (the first one caught my attention on cool pages because I have a bit older level called Vertigo also.... TOTALLY different concept though... I called mine Vertigo because it actually made my wife's Vertigo kick in and made her sick..... )

So first of all. . Whoa you have an awesome animated sig! And 2nd, yeah I am a fan of your Vertigo levels as you know. You do some great scenery work with the 3d glitch. Its also nice to see you branching out from what you usually make in terms of style. . . there are so many possibilities in lbp I love to see creators have a wide variety of level styles. Other than that. . Ccubbage has made some good points that I tend to agree with, nice job Fender. 2009-12-02 17:49:00

Well i usually disagree with using objects from story mode but i needs something perfect like it so i thought id just make it look rustic and change it a bit.

It only has a small part in the level but other than that everything else is Fenderjt made lol

We really enjoyed this level. Great combination of vehicles and scenery. Sometimes in a vehicle it just feels like you're hanging on and waiting for the ride to finish, but in THIS level, the scenery was so great and the ride so much fun that I didn't feel that at all.

I do agree with cubbage about the lack of storyline to make the whole thing hang together more (but make sure you don't go speech bubble crazy - I hate that!)

The 3D backgrounds were outstanding - well done.
I don't normally have a problem with mm objects, i.e. I dont mind the clouds and trees and stuff, but that balloon is very obviously the same one from onis volcano, which does distract a little bit.

My final tiny gripe is the slide right at the end of the level. In theory I'm at the top of one mountain trying to get to another.... so how come there is a big slide made of rock above my head connecting them? It 'broke the illusion' a little for me. Using a cannon to fire SB across (or another vehicle) would do the same job without feeling out of place.

How about you have a bird at the top of mountain #1 in a nest, you grab his leg and he flies you to camp?

I still loved this though. 5* and heart. I actually played this twice as the first time I ended up playing online with 2 complete nimrods who kept pulling me out the cable car. :-(
