Leerdammer level breaking bug

Archive: 31 posts

I just discovered that my first Sheriff Sack level was broken. To cut a long story short all the invisible dark matter platforms I had in the level have totally disappeared ( no pun intended ) as in they just aren't there anymore.

I played it a day or two before Leerdammer came out and they were fine. I had some invisible DM platforms for the ladder in the barn. Anyone who's played it will remember them probably. I also had some just outside the barn to make it look like you were walking on the rocks in the background but they've all gone.

I edited the level with a new ladder and didn't try to put the invisible platforms back in because I didn't have much time and wanted to get it back up quick. I'll have to check my other levels sometime soon but it's bedtime now.

Anyway if you have any levels that use invisible platforms you may want to check that they're still in there because without mine the level was impossible to finish.

I always knew we'd get some new bug/s with the new update but I didn't expect anything quite so serious and level-breaking. Guess we need to check every single level now incase there's anything else nasty too.

Yeah. Not sure which would be worse. We don't want it to be widespread but on the other hand if it was it would be more likely to get fixed as a matter of urgency.

Wow... I hadn't looked. I use quite a bit of invisible DM, but not as platforms. I guess it's time to take a tour of my portfolio!

Thanks for the heads up!!

All of the invisible DM walls in my SackMech levels, as well as the invisible DM necessary for the boss fight in The Incredible Time Box are working correctly.2009-12-02 02:11:00

Did this happened with a backed-up level? A level version that was only on your moon? or you simply played an already published version (last published before the update) ?

My old levels seem to be intact, invisible DM walls and all...doesn't seem like a widespread problem.2009-12-02 14:36:00

My levels appear to be ok also.... As RangerZero asked, was it something you saw playing the level online or on your moon? Maybe the issue occurred while editing with the new engine, but not in a published one.2009-12-02 15:14:00

Checked all my levels and they are all fine.

If this topic doesn't rise up it means it's something particular that you did and you found a bug OR it's an isolated bug you have. Those are rare in a close environnement like a console game but they are definetely possible.

Did you export your save data or export/import any levels? These are some main features in Leerdammer and if you noticed the problem recently, any one of those could be the cause.2009-12-02 16:06:00

Mmmmm seems like it's just me. Typical.

It happened in my original Sheriff Sack level which has been published for months with no problems at all. I only noticed because I went in to play it yesterday with a friend. I hadn't edited that level for a long time.

I also had it saved on my moon and when I checked that one they'd gone from that aswell.

Also I had exported it as soon as I had installed Leerdammer so I imported that back to an empty slot and went in to that and they were missing from that one too.

I don't know what's going on now then because I certainly didn't remove them myself and even if I had done any editing, which I didn't, I couldn't possibly have removed them accidentally because there were lots of them in different places.

As I say I played the published level a couple of days before Leerdammer and it worked fine ( other people must have played it and finished it too because the plays went up just by 4 or 5 prior to the update ) so there must have been something in it that removed them but I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

Strange. Maybe the dark matter glitched and fell to the ground? Sorry to hear it.2009-12-02 22:46:00

I don't think so. I put a block of cardboard in and moved it around where the platforms should have been and didn't run into anything. I'll check again though asap just to make sure they aren't lying on the floor. Although that would be just as weird seeing as they were DM.

Ah, so this is widespread then, just not pandemic-ish? This could be a very big problem...

I don't KNOW whether this is related or not, but on a NEW level I'm working on there was a big piece of visible dark matter I was using as a placeholder - and the next time I went in to the level it had shifted upward (pretty far) and was jammed inside another object.... so if the dark matter shifted somewhere else (instead of disappearing altogether) there could be some obscure issue. Problem is, if the dark matter was shunk to be invisible it would be difficult to find if it moved somewhere else.

We definately don't want to cause a panic on something we don't understand yet, but if everyone can go into their levels in create mode and check any invisible dark matter, we could probably get a better idea whether there is an issue.

Leerdammer brought somevery odd glitches, this, and the sticker cut-off glitch.... maybe more testing would have been best?

Hard to say.... since a TON of the members here had the chance to beta test, it's kind of hard to blame MM if there are some bugs left. I never ran into this during the beta.

No way...took forever as it is. You're never going to find every problem until it's unleashed on the community at large. Just as long as *severe* problems are identified and patched in a timely fashion I'm happy.

I haven't seen any weird DM behavior in my new level either.

Well now...

I haven't had any DM glitches yet-per se, but I must admit, something is different. Now I don't want to sound all ominous but my backgrounds have been behaving weird...

So how does a background act you ask? wooden, I reply *rimshot*

No seriously... here's the tie in. On my latest level on my moon I noticed when rewinding and ff doing some intricate work I inadvertently tried to move something held in place with dark matter... (things shifted slightly) I did/didn't realize, rewinded kept working, next thing I knew the Mm premade backdrop was tripled or quadrupled to a fuzzy point. I backed-out of the level completely carefully. It was like 4am so I fell asleep. Next try, the background was settled but now the bottom of the level is 3/4 of a sack deeper than it should be... and things seemed out of place but again it was 4am... so I cant be 100% certain.

At another point certain materials seemed to turn to 'glitter' as it was a holiday level I wasn't plussed... seems easier explainable-- as if I was taxing the ps3.... So my little sack is wandering neck deep in the wilderness.

I noticed something while placing around score-bubbles.
I placed them 5 at a time, all connected to eachother with invis. stiffened rods.
at some spots in my level, when I wanted to delete the score-bubbles and their rods, just selecting one rod would make everything that was connected to the rod/rope that I stuck on a random wall/floor collapse/dissolve/break.
(thank gaia for the rewind button).

I also noticed that some moving objects like doors/platforms would get stuck when a rod was attached to a wall near them, or that shared a dark matter together.
I had to shrink my doors 0,5% and everything moved fine, though the door detail now no longer alligns as perfectly with its border as it did before.

probably doesnt have to do anything with the scorebubbles, but it might have something to do with the amount of rods.

Rods you say?... I'll see your rods and raise you a piston.

While capturing a mechanism that dispenses score bubbles with my pop-it... I cant capture the piston that raises and lowers said mechanism... weird huh? It just wont recognize that its there.

Yeah, I'm gonna just go ahead and bump this because I just noticed today that my invisible dark matter in my Ghostbusters level has disappeared in at least one section that I know of now.

Apologies to Mr Vista as I must admit I had the slightest of a dark tickle in the back of my throat at the idea of a bug singling him out... NO MORE.

The section in question had invisible DM floors that the player used the paintanator to verify if flooring was present...

I can attest no flooring was present.
