Afew questions and observations

Archive: 6 posts

ok this is only my second post and I probably wouldnt be making it but there are a few things bugging me lately that i need to vent.
I have noticed as of lately the complaints of new levels has increased, ie..lame levels, nothing original etc...and I can relate because I swear if i see one more train survival level with 1 millions plays im gonna puke.be that as it may I think it is quite possible the communities themselves may be to blame. And hear me out, this game was created with a story in mind which i found quite enjoyable and look forward to a continuation of said story. MM created a wonderful game with the hopes of inspiring the user to keep the LBP saga going. the game also supplies you with logic, building materials and all the tools necessary to build LBP on your own, wether your a hardened game programming god, or a small child. We all want new and exciting, but lets face it the world is saturated with games, coming up with something that hasnt been done before is next to impossible. But one can hope to put a fresh or more interesting spin on an idea. what I am getting at in all this is maybe the far right and left ideas need to be toned and a happy middle ground reached, then ,maybe more enjoyable levels with just good fun gameplay will come about. I personally would like to see levels that expand the current levels and themes from the game, much like you pay for in other games such as GOW,COD,Halo and the list goes on. I have made a couple of levels but do not publish them because I made them for my amusment. However I have come up with and idea for a platforming series and have completed my beta levels for public play just to see the publics interest. and to get some pointers about what people would like to see and for self improvment. Ultimately what I am getting at is maybe more encouragement from the community at large for new creators is needed. It is very discouraging when you open then forums and the first 5 threads involve someone being sick and tired of something, the general tone is if your gonna create a level and it is not a masterpiece that is so fantastic that its gonna be in LBP 2 then your gonna be hung from the roof by your toenails.
I say this to all people thinking about making a level.
Make sure YOU enjoy it,first and foremost you cannot and will not please everyone.
Also if you want to use logic and contraptions developed by MM then do so,if someone gives you grief about it tell em to take a long walk off a short pier, there is no need to spend 20 hours trying to come up with a new raising stair idea when there is a perfectly good one that can be reskinned given to you.If you have the ability to create a new wonderful logic masterpeice then do so but do not berate someone who cant.
Also maybe the forum sites need threads for different level types where creators can post their new levels for each section with no other posts allowed, going into a general section etc.. and saying hey my new level is out seems to get buried real quick these days with the other posts, and im sorry but people by nature are lazy and if its not on the first page it probably aint gonna get seen. So i for one appeal to everyone if you have a desire or an idea for a level make it and just do the best you can, thats all anyone can ask for and if you need to use uncle jalapeno for your boss because he is the bees knees then do so.See ya.

You could also do with some formatting. your wall of text is a little hard to read, so i tried spacing it a little in my quote.

You bring up quite a few points there, i'll do my best to address them lol

As to the bomb survivals, etc. the community is part of the problem, but so is the system. LBPC can't account for either unfortunately, we're only a small portion of the community, and we can't mess with the system

While coming up with something new is always possible (though difficult at times) I have nothing against standard levels. A majority of the levels in the game are platformers (as thats what the game is ), but the way that these platfomers are set up makes them different from each other. A well made platformer is still a joy to play after over a year of them.

One thing that i remember standing out is that you didnt like it when people complained about story items. I disagree but to a point. I don't like seeing story items in levels, but that doesn't make it a bad level. Sometimes story items are a great idea, like you said there's no reason to reinvent the wheel. on the other hand, when a player does go the extra mile to design their own versions, it shows.

As to the problem with level threads, the thing is posting your level is just a single step. If you want to get it noticed, you have to go farther than that. use F4F, or pm members asking if they'll play. Similarly to the actual servers, the showcase faces a lot of levels each day, the trick is getting it noticed ;p New creators aren't a put off, quite a few spotlights have introduced new creators to LBPC, and shown that they are just as good as the old ones.

Levels would be buried just as fast by making another section.
The way to ensure it's not buried is to participate on the F4F and also make yourself visible in the forums by posting more.

As for the lame levels, there always have been and there always will be. thing is, I would have stopped playing this game since forever if LBPCentral wouldn't exist. If you want to keep playing great levels, stick around. Seriously, the Cool level pages can totally go ignored.

Please no one take particular offense to anything I posted, when I said community I meant the forum world of LBP in general not just this site, as anyone knows those of you/us that actually are involved in the forums represent a very small portion of players and readers, there are tons of people who read and never post, me for one. I just want to appeal to everyone if you have an idea make it. I have met several people who have some really neat levels that will not publish them because they used MM items and think everyones gonna instantly dis their level, and to some extent they arent to far of base. I alaways kinda thought it was funny to read a review where the guy rips someone up for using something they got in game and then in the next sentence gripped cuz they didnt use enough stickers, which last i checked were in game items from MM.

Almost forgot yeah I quit looking at the cool levels page along time ago.
