Some sort of differentiation for PSP threads

Archive: 18 posts

OK... I can appreciate that this (LBPC) is the proper place for forums discussing LBP for PSP. It makes no sense to create a whole other site for this. But the fact is that they are two completely different games and platforms. And I will never own a PSP. Period.

So here's my gripe...

When I'm searching - as I often do here on LBPC, especially by using the New Posts function - there is no discernible difference between a standard PS3-LBP thread and a PSP-LBP thread. I have too often followed a link for something that piques my interest, only to realize several posts into my reading that I am in a PSP thread.

Perhaps these little icons http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/images/glassy/grunged/statusicon/thread_new.gif could be modified for PSP threads? A different color or (preferably, since old ones go B&W) a different shape?

Just a thought.

Is the PSP tag in the forum name not enough? I can usually tell pretty quickly whether a thread is for PSP or PS3 by looking at the forum it's been posted in at the right of the search results.

Edit: Though I notice that the "Everything else" forum doesn't use the [PSP] tag, I assume because it's called "Everything Else LBP for PSP". Maybe this should be changed to match the other PSP forums?

It has sufficed for the most part... I've had to train myself though. Really, what I'd like is a filter of some sort, so I can just entirely filter out the PSP threads. But I figured that was probably asking for a lot, so I thought some graphic representation would be easier. And yes, I can read it, but the whole point of an icon is to make it visually pop out at you without having to read and process something. Plus, the icons are visually right next to the titles, so my eyes don't have to be darting back and forth all the time (perhaps this is lame, but I am old... my eyes can't hack it anymore ).2009-12-01 16:32:00

My problem is actually the opposite. I'm always worried I'd be creating threads in the wrong forum. Making PS3 threads in the PSP forums and vice-versa. I have to triple-check the forum name at the top after every preview. 2009-12-01 16:48:00

I'd like this too, I've messed up a few times and been reading things that have no relevance to me. Nearly responded toa couple of help threads where my knowledge would have been nearly useless

As v0rtex says, darting your eyes back and forth is a pain, and you don't have any indication in the mobile view until you've clicked through to the thread. I'd be quite happy with simply prefixing every thread title with [psp] or [ps3] (like the F4F tag, but atuomatic), but any indicator would be nice.

just click the little arrow on the top right of the section header, it'll shrink to just the title 2009-12-01 17:04:00

@v0rtex, I don't think he's paying attention

especially by using the New Posts function

That's where it becomes awkward. I rarely if ever use the forums index, I just stick to the new posts page.

Ah, yes... it's not a problem in the main forums index... just when you are using any of the search results. Thanks for the clarification rtm!

Alright... I'm bumping this because it still really bugs me how often I follow a thread link before I realize it's for PSP, not PS3.

So if I must begin a crusade for this, I may start hounding CC until he decides he either has to expel me or make the change!
(but probably not, cuz I really hate confrontation, hehe ).

But seriously... another color for the PSP threads? or perhaps just a very recognizable icon on the left? something/anything to make them really stick out.

Yeah I ranted about this as well in one thread or another... this is the proper format though and I would appreciate it if this could be looked into... couldn't care less for the psp and I've learned far too much already... only to say d'oh!2009-12-28 20:19:00

That's the reason we added [PSP] to all of the PSP-related forums - so that you could tell the difference with a glance. Why not just train yourself to check the forum on the right before clicking the link?2009-12-28 20:28:00

It sure seems like it should be that easy, and I've been trying. But maybe it's the old dog / new tricks problem. I just keep finding myself reading about a level or object or idea that's not for the console I own.

Simple answer would be for LBPC to buy everyone a psp and LBP PSP.....

any chance of that one CC?

hey!we could do what we did for cometchat and ghave some of our wealthy members donate money to the site...and considering a lot of people here already own a psp(i know at least 50 that browse the site with theirs) we would only have to donate a bit from everyone!

yes i am joking.

...unless CC would get used ones...they would only cost about 75$ each(again...i am joking)
