New husband and wife creators

Hiya

My wife clarie and I have been trawling the forums for a few weeks now and we are completely addicted to playing and creating on littlebigplanet. We thought it was time to introduce ourselves on here.

We've almost finished all the gameplay elements of our first publishable level but we've got a lot of decoration to do. I was wondering how you guys decide how to light things or when to use stickers? Lots of people seem to use the front layer to make sackboy walk behind trees and pillars, it always seems to look good... except when we do it Any suggestions on how to place decorations well?

We also tried to make a character for our level, but it looks very cartoony, which doesnt fit the more realistic style of the level. Looking at others creations, characters do seem to be the downfall of the blocky graphics system. Again, any suggestions here?

...and one last question... we don't seem to have picked up the tutorials trophy, but none of the tools have a blue question mark on it anymore. Is there anyway to find out which ones i've missed out?

Thanks for your time and we look forward to chatting to you guys on forums.

Welcome! Glad ya made it!

There are quite a few couples creating and playing on LBP! My girlfriend and I have dualing TV sets in the living room fed by our 2 PS3's.

Hmmm when to light things. Most the time anymore!! I have the room lights off and add led lights stuck a chunk of DM here and there doing all the lighting myself. If you have the brightness turned down a bit and the radius up, you can get some really nice effects. Experiment with different colors and plop them around your scene a bit. Sometimes I use spots to highlight things as they will illuminate on only one layer while led's will cover all evenly. So a spot can be a handy light streaming into a cave or highlighting a puzzle, but there are really no rules.

As far as stickers and decorations... It depends on the scene. I add quite a bunch of stickers to everything actually. Sometimes way too many!!

I try to use all the layers at times and others, I might force you into 1 layer depending on the upcoming challenge. The thin layers are handy to use add a bit of dimension by having other elements not only on the front layer, but also scattered on the other 3 thin layers. I usually do landscaping as 3 separate thick layers so I can vary the landscape quite a bit more. It also allows me to more easily poke thin layer stuff up between those layers.

...this is way too much for an intro thread, but hopefully these tips get you on the way. If you have any more questions on this, you are more than welcome to post in the Help forum or just leave me a visitor message.

Have fun!

I wonder how long it will take until two people who met on this forum fall in love and marry.

Welcome TheAdipose and welcome to your wife as well.

Welcome. It's nice to have another lbp husband/wife team around. I, myself, am also part of one of those. ^_^ He doesn't like to create as much as I do though. I pretty much force him to make mechanics for me. (j/k)2009-12-01 13:55:00

I seen Grant and Wex give each other some longing looks at the Expo...

I think they're still trying to fight it but it's only a matter of time.

Think of the babies!! It'll be constantly drunk and living in a maze! Probably not the best combination really.

Heh.... that was pretty funny.

My suggestion on lighting and decorations..... check out MrSuperComputer's tutorial in the logic pack for "Creating an Atmosphere". VERY good tutorial that explains just what you're asking, and he's one of the best at it.

Welcome! Glad you found the spotlights I'm partial to those... of course!

For lights and stickers - CCubbage gave great advice. Mrsupercomputer's levels always have great atmosphere. I light as I go and decorate as I go too. It's just the way I work. Play a few of the spotlight levels and you'll see some great examples of decoration and ligting use.

The create trophy from the tutorials is tricky. Sometimes they just don't register as done sometimes from what I recall from reading other threads. I'd suggest running through them again to see if you can get it to pop up. Good Luck!

Have fun!

Welcome to the forums!!

I was just about to post after seeing the username and noticing the Doctor Who reference!

Doctor Who level pack FTW!

I will one day get around to making a Doctor Who level. I actually had a go at making the TARDIS last week! (Was considering making my new level the first instalment in a time travelling adventure!)

Welcome to the forums!!

Privacy invasion! Where did you get those photos of us?!?

When we signed up to PSN we were going through a major doctor who phase (even went to the exhibition!)... and although daleks and cybermen get all the love, we've always had a little bit of affection for the little fat blobby adiposes

We will check out mrsupercomputers levels, we've done the advanced tutorials and found that really helpful

Welcome to you guys, TheAdipose and Clarie I envy you the ability to play together. My husband's more of an Xbox360 man. Doesn't like LBP so much. Oh well. There's a wealth of information here, sometimes buried deeper in the threads, but you've been pointed in the right direction, so go and enjoy yourselves and then be sure to post your level in the Level Showcase so we can all check it out and give you feedback (if you want it). Cheers!2009-12-02 08:38:00
