NBA Live 09

Archive: 30 posts

Any basketball fans out there. NBA Live 09 looks like it is going to be the best one yet. I got the demo yesterday and it looks quite amazing.

Anyone else thinking of getting this? This and LBP will probably take up all my non school time for a while.

I'll be trying out the online features with anyone else who has this.

Cheers,

mj

EDIT: This thread can also be used for any basketball discussion but if the mods don't like it we can stop and i'll make a new thread for it in general chat

I dont know, graphically NBA Live has always been good its just the gameplay has always been a mess and the 3 point shot has been way too forgiving. I'm more of a fan of the NBA 2k series its not perfect by any means but once you start raising the difficulty you have to start using basketball fundamentals to win games. With NBA Live you can get away with tossing the ball back to one of your 3 point shooters and jack it up from 3 point range on any difficulty. They might have changed it this time but I think I'm going to stick with NBA 2K9 if I can afford a basketball game this year2008-09-25 14:39:00

So you're telling me you dont like NBA Jam or NBA Street? NBA Jam especially was like one of the greatest sports game ever lol. I love those kinda games though cuz theyre so ridiculous in terms of what your doing on the court but theres so much strategy involved with the people you pick for your 3 man roster. It was so cool

And since everyone else is doing it....

XD, yeah The Lakers suck so bad, they didn't win the western conference last year and question how many championships has the phoenix suns won? But okay I am quitting this can get ugly, but the phoenix suns is a good team and I like most of the players except for Shaq.

NBA Live 09 seems to have changed that. They have also really focused on the pick and roll (giving it its own button!) with a better and larger amount of features. And I don't thinm the gameplay has been a mess. Sure it may be a bit clunky and over the top but it is better than the extremely bad timing/impossible to platy defense NBA 2K8. Though I will have to get the demo for 2K9 aswell before fully making a decision on which one to buy because I have enjoyed both.

Lakers are the best western team imo (and no i'm not a fan) and this season should prove it as i predict they make top seed in the west and beat cleveland in six games to take home the championship.

Suns have had their chance. They took a final shot with Shaq and that backfired. I predict they don't make it past the second round.

Oh and for the record...

GO DETROIT PISTONS!!!

Lets keep all team chatter about now and in the present time. Leaning back on how many championships each franchise has won does not make the team any better at the moment. It is just a lazy thing people say when they have no more arguments to put forward.
Unless you are talking about how good each franchise was in the past, lets keep how many championships they have out of it.
Thanks.

LOL, yeah I see your point. But when you bring up saying the suns are better than the Lakers, well when? Last year they were not, and so I ask the question to say show me when they were ever better than the Lakers. Because beating a team in the playoffs is not something to say your team is better than the Lakers. Now yes we look at the now also but to look into the past is also a way to compare your team vs another team. Hey I look at this as yes you are a fan of the Suns that is great but until you have something to actually say your team is better than mine than you should not disrespect my team. LIke hey the celtics rocked our world and they are clearly the best team in the NBA, they also have the past to show up the Lakers. But unless the Suns have won a championship lately that I forgot about, than don't say your team is better than mine.
Now hey I like the pistons, they have always been about great teamwork and know what it means to play good basketball, it is not about superstars on your team or winning MVP's but about being a great TEAM. So I for sure have no hate for them.
And I also don't hate the suns, they are a good franchise and have had good teams, and I like there players. But it just gets me steamed when you start talking smack about the Lakers when your team is not as good.

But what gets me steamed is when the conversation starts out as which team is better but quickly changes to: which franchise is better because they have one more championships when ever a lakers or celtics fan is there.

Being a good franchise in the past does not make you a better team now.

BTW i like the suns. I love how they play. it is so fun and entertaining. They have one of my favourite players (grant hill) and one of the best point guards ever (steve nash).

I like the lakers also. I'm loving jordan farmar and have always loved andrew bynum since he dunked on shaq and then made sure shaq knew it.

Haha. lol.

You guys are taking this way too far. No need to throw out rhetorical questions and all of your data. It was just for the competetive spirit, not for everyone to start tearing the flesh off of each other. Saying the Lakers Suck is clearly just a way to express the rivalry between them and the Suns. Both are good teams, and all I was saying is that I'm a Suns fan. So you can all calm down. Also, the Raptors are not purple, they are red. Also another fairly good team, but for the FUN of competition, Pistons suck.

Okay sorry guys. clank is right we are taking this a bit too far so lets keep this fun and spirited.

btw raptors home jersey is white, purple, little bit of red and black. there away jersey is purple, black, white and a hint of red. The mainly red jersey you are thinking of is there alternate away jersey which is red, black and white. They where this jersey a lot less in the season than their manly purple one away jersey.

Yeah I totally see your point, but still it is important to reflect to the past. I can accept if the Lakers suck that year, I know they were not the best team last year. And I can totally understand what you are saying about us Laker Fans always bringing up the past, because honestly that is all we had for a while since the Pistons tore us up. But also it is something to show for on how many championships your team has won, maybe you don't agree and that is okay but it still matters. what is the point of winning championships if can't say hey we have won so and so.

I live in UT and all here is people talking smack about the Lakers, but let's be honest the Jazz has never won a championship ever, there is no timeframe you can see your team was the best team of the NBA. Hey the Jazz are good and there coach is really good. But still how can you talk smack, saying the Lakers suck, you got beat by the Celtics, like you have much to talk about. So that is why I go there, yes how many championships have you won? That is the reason, now hey it is about now but if your team did not win the championship that means they were not any better.
Also hey the Celtics have had the longest streak of championships, it is somethilng to proud of. No team has won as many as that team. So I respect your view on it but hey it still is something to be proud of. That is what the game is about is playing for those championships, it counts for something.
But when you say The Lakers suck, that does not mean just this year, or people would say hey the Lakers suck this year, but that is not what is said. And as soon as we say anthing about how many championships we have it is said , no it is about this year. But your team beat the Lakers and than went and lost afterwards, so that really is something to talk smack about.
When you talk about great players, do you say MJ sucks because he does not play right now, so it is all about the now. I believe you look at MJ and compare him vs another player and say yeah he has not done what he has. So what is the difference between a team and a player? Just saying.

While I think the Lakers are one of the top teams in the league I dont think theyre that much better than the suns. I think they'll get a healthy Shaq because the Suns are known to have one of the best medical departments in sports. Just ask Grant Hill who played his first 70 game season in forever last year with the suns. Plus near the end of the season they really started to click and if it wasnt for that miracle 3 by duncan I think that suns-spurs series is totally different. Plus if you go back a year earlier the suns got robbed on that BS suspension on Stoudamire in the spurs series plus they wiped the floor with the lakers in the first round that year too.

Anyways you guys should be lucky to be fans of 2 consistently great franchises. I'm a Toronto Raptors who just traded for Jermaine O'neal. I'm depressed for the season and it hasn't even started. The only thing good about that trade is we lose 20 million off our cap in 2 years. I can already see one of his 2 historically bad knees exploding on the court in the second week along with our chances to do anything significant this year. I dont know why I cheer for all the toronto teams I guess I'm a glutton for punishment lol

...Also, the Raptors are not purple, they are red....

Technically their red jersey is their alternate. They went for the whole canadian vibe. But the red one actually ended up outselling their purple one so they use it more and more. Now the Purple jersey is more like their retro alternate jersey. I still like the purple one more but i'm in the minority on that one.

Man, with all the team cheering around here, you'd think the people here would be The Go! Team.

Personally, I've never been much of one for basketball, let alone games concerning them. I might be able to be good for it, since I'm somewhat of that build, but it's just not something that particularly appeals to me. I can go out and do a decent job of shooting some baskets, and that can be just fine, but it's not something I'd prefer to be doing daily.

Hey I don't think you should be so negative on the raptors, they are a killer team. Yeah O'neil can be a risk but if he does well for you guys it will be a great team. They are for sure one of the top teams in the east. Bosh is the go to guy and you guys can do some damage. I don't know if you will win the east but your team should have a major impact in the east this year.

sure it is fine to talk about how good your franchise is because of how many championships they one and it is fine to compare players with players from the past an all but.... when you talk about past championships you are talking about the franchise. A team is the current roster of players who are competing in the NBA for that franchise. A franchise is the club that each team every year plays for. When a team wins a championship the franchise gets it as well and is the best. but a team cannot say they are the best because in the past other teams from their franchise have one championships.

Dude I wanna beleive that but its all dependant on if O'neals stays healthy. If he goes down we're the same 40-44 win team as last year. Prob not even that since we lost Nesterovic and garbajosa to europe so we wouldn't even have anyone to back up bosh in centre. And bosh isn't even a natural centre he's a power forward. He does decently against the average guys but gets destroyed trying to defend the elites like howard and duncan.

I'm just naturally pessimistic with the Raptors. I still haven't recovered from the Vince Carter screw job. I cant tell you how mad I was to see Carter after the trade, after barely averaging 20ppg the previous 2 years and not even getting us a winning season, start dunking on everyone averaging 33 a game and taking the nets from 11th to 8th and in the playoffs in like 2 months. He tanked the season so bad for us the nets gave us 2 career bench players and alonzo mourning who refused to play for us, got bought out and won the championship a year later with the heat. Carter singlehandedly destroyed our team and 5 years later we're a contender again. I just hope O'neals knee holds out and we can make a run cuz if not we're back to square one.

Yeah I understand how you feel, but I think you are better off without carter. He has done nothing for nets. But I have heard that Jay-Z has talked about taking Lebron, wade over to the nets once they move to brooklyn, that will be nutz.

Oh I'm definately happy he's gone and we're turning it around. He's even starting to tank it again now that the nets are falling apart I dont want that type of player on my team anyways.

And I've also heard about the whole Jay Z/lebron thing. I'm pretty sure its going to happen not only because of the close relationship between the two of them but also because in Lebrons contract with Nike he gets paid more for playing in a Major Media Market(New York, LA, etc) and with the Nets moving to Brooklyn he'll qualify for it. Thats why the nets practically gave away Kidd and Jefferson so they can clear the cap space to give Lebron a max contract. But unless one of them takes less on their contract I doubt they'll get both Wade and Lebron. If it happens though that would be a scary team to play. Both those guys can drop 30 plus on any given night and if carter is still there getting single covered he'll be dunking on everybody. No money left for any big men though they would have to get lucky in the draft but thats a dynasty in the making right there

Yeah I totally agree, There is actually three players that there contracts all end the same year. Lebron, Wade and Mello. They are all good friends, and lets be honest they will most likely all ahve a fair arrangment to play on the same team by that time of there careers, because it will be about winning a championship together. Because I can only imagine you are going to also make a lot of money from advertisment, you are also part of rockfella by being on the team. Jay-Z is great at marketing, this team will make millions just from advertisements only.

Ya Chris Bosh is up that year too. He seems to like it in Toronto though so i think the raps can resign him. Now that I think about it that was a stacked draft year. Bosh, Melo, Wade and Lebron were all top 10 picks.
