Another one of my hunches proves correct. Normally if you make an object that contains a captured object, you cannot capture them together. However, I have found a way around this limitation. Unfortunately, it can't be applied to objects that have already been assembled. Here are the steps : Capture the object you want to combine with another object. Put the captured object in a prize bubble. Make the prize bubble shareable. Go into play mode and collect the bubble. Place the object from the Community Objects INSTEAD of from My Objects. You can now combine it with whatever you want and you will still be able to capture. Now I'm off to apply this new discovery to a certain LBPC logo. Edit: Also, am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that we can capture objects made from community objects, but not ones made from our own objects?

It's apparent now that captured objects are re-capturable, so it isn't a system limitation. That also means it's a patchable issue. Sweet. Anyway, another excellent find - I'm off to give this a try. Thanks!
