A question about pistons...

Archive: 4 posts

Ok here is my question... How do you make a piston go down once and then back up and stay at the top? It probably has a simple answer i just can't think today so i thought this would be the best place to come to. (If you don't get what i mean just say i will explain again)2009-11-30 21:18:00

There are a few ways. The simplest two I can think of both involve emitting a piece of dark matter with a magnetic key on it. Then you want to activate this using a 1-shot signal.

Method 1: If the piston is set with a timing of 10s, set the emitter to have a lifetime of 10s and have a magnetic switch that detects the key and is set to on/off and connect it to the piston. When the key is emitted, it will activate the switch for 10s and the piston will do a complete cycle and then stop.

Alternatively, set the emitter to 5s and the magnetic switch to directional. The key will activate the switch, making the piston extend for 5s, then it will come when the key vanishes.

Both methods have their pro's and cons. What exactly would be triggering this action to take place?

Thanks

OK, well both of these methods will work fine for that, unless you have someone who pulls the two way switch twice in quick succession. Players have a tendency to do such things and break your carefully crafted level. Have a play around with it and decide if it's working well enough. If you want to do a bit of enhancement for "failure-safety" then post back here and I'll help you out.

I would just write an explanation now, but I'm really tired
