Winter Level- Beta Testers Please?

Archive: 17 posts

Hey, everyone!

I am working on a level for the Winter Level Contest and I need a few playtesters!

The level is called (as of now) "Lost Santa and the Winter Wonderland". I don't want to give out too much information to the public because I don't want the judges to see a lot before I actually enter the contest! Haha :hero:

If you would like to test the level for me, send me a PM, a PSN message, or post here on the thread. All I ask is that you actually give me feedback. You can just post your feedback here on the thread or send me PM's and PSN messages. I will probably take about 5-8 testers from LBPC. And don't be discouraged if you ask and you don't get the code. I just may have thought you did not qualify for the tester position, but I assure you that only a select few would be denied

So just hit me with a request and I'll give you the combo and where to enter it, so you can begin testing! I will put the names of the testers in the 'Level Showcase' thread when I am finished. I would love to give XP to the testers but sadly I do not have enough

And one more thing. If you post feedback here on the thread, try not to give away to much information about the level please. Lastly, if you can think of a better name after you play it or if you think it is okay pleast let me know! Thanks!

LOL I was about to name my winter level "A Septic Winter Wonderland"

Darn you to heck!

Guess I'll be looking for another name...

Haha go ahead and name it that! It's fine with me. I really don't plan on keeping the name anyway. Mine sounds too..... too something! I don't really care for my name, that's why I am taking other suggestions! Haha! Please keep your name, it sounds better!2009-11-29 18:22:00

No it's fine, really. I've decided on the name Solitary Bliss anyway LOL

You could go ahead and keep my old one if you wish!

Okay, but it looks like neither one of us is going to end up with the name then. Because I'm not using it!

Come on, people! I really would like some beta testers! I take that back, I NEED testers!

Hey Piggabling, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I really liked the level so far. The storyline appears pretty standard at first, but then it gets flipped upside down! Pretty crazy stuff and I can't wait to see that last part.

Anyway, the stuff that you do have is really good. The visuals are nice and the layout is well done. I never found myself stuck or lost at all. My only criticism is that some of the areas feel a bit cramped to me. The area with the pounding columns for example. It felt so tiny and closed in, making me feel like my movement was really limited. However, it wasn't too difficult to pass through, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

Overall, I think you doing a great job so far. I'll try to give it a few more plays as you update it and provide more detailed feedback. Keep up the good work!

Yes! Thanks you! And to anyone who may have played the level lately, ignore the jetpack! I forgot to take that out!

I do also agree with the cramped feeling in a few spots. I may try to fix that, but personally I like the cramped feeling in levels. I may try to find a way to open up a few parts of the level.

And to anyone who would like to test, I'd appreciate it very much!

I wouldn't worry about changing it as those areas still worked just fine. I think it was more about personal preference and style.

DON'T READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE LEVEL!!!!!!

Hey Pigga, I've played through the level! Over all, I like the look of it, esp the metal on snow! A couple suggestions tho; I'd include a couple more checkpoints. One near the beginning to avoid popping back up on the generator hill for sure.
In the place where the guy has the machine, if you walk to the right you can see where the landscape ends, meaning the snow. This is a preference thing tho, and not critical.
Also, in the red and green section, I would work with the two up and down platforms. the first one gives no room for error. I might suggest letting it go up a bit higher, or lowering the gas a smidge, and if you fall under the second one you fall out of the level into the dark matter supports. Maybe close that up with some gas!
I might also stick a checkpoint in the middle of that whole section. Maybe right before the slide!

hope I've not given too much away... and hope this helps!

Thanks Aselrahc! I was online and saw the level got a heart and I'm like "It's that A named guy!"

Yeah I've been thinking about adding a few more checkpoints and now I know I should.
I will also edit the landscape over by the guy too, I didn't notice that was visible.
And at that platform section, I get what you mean, it is pretty hard. I'll try and close up the gap (I thought I did, I must have missed a spot )
And I did add a checkpoint before the slide just after you played it.

Thanks again and I'll tell you when I've got it finished so you can give it one last play through, if you would like. I've only got one more week to work on it though! Ahhh!

Hey man, I was playin your level again and noticed something. When you start the first set of blocks moving that you have to then race under, once your above them in the next part, if you jump back down they are not moving smoothly and you can't get through. I had to "Try Again" to get back to the checkpoint beyond them. If that wasn't clear enough, I can go back and figure out exactly where they are and let you know, it's been a couple hours since I played through and I forget what the sign said...

P.S. the A is my first initial and the selrahc is my middle name backwards...
