STAR WARS In Concert

Fellow Star Wars fans... HEADS UP!! If you're not yet aware of it, there is an amazing production touring right now called Star Wars In Concert. It is a multi-media experience that features a full orchestra and choir playing all the major musical themes, timed perfectly to film clips from all six movies. Anthony Daniels himself (C-3PO) enters the stage between montages to summarize and re-tell the story of Star Wars to you, the audience. The film clips are shown on a giant (and I do mean GIANT) LED screen while the orchestra and choir perform in front of it. Before and after the performance, you have the extremely rare opportunity to view some of the original props and costumes from the films. Some of the props in the exhibit have never been seen before in a public viewing setting. Here is a great write up that gives a better idea of what it involves than I have given. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/chi-tc-arts-star-wars-1125-1129nov29,0,3590662.story Here is a link to the trailer for the event. http://www.starwarsinconcert.com/#_trailer If you consider yourself a true Star Wars fan, then you won't miss this if it comes to your town. For those of you who aren't Star Wars fans but love listening to fantastic live orchestrated music... this is a must see! For those of you who aren't a fan of either.... this is still a wonderful experience to enjoy. It's a real treat!! Also, if you have any 501st members in the area, you can count on them being there in costume to help welcome visitors and set the mood before the show. They are more than willing to let you take a few pics with them too. 501st Stormtrooper http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww28/Rustbukkit/Star%20Wars%20In%20Concert/IMG_9271.jpg Me & a 501st SandTrooper http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww28/Rustbukkit/Star%20Wars%20In%20Concert/IMG_9273.jpg Vader tries to steal my date, but the force is strong with this one... and she managed to resist. http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww28/Rustbukkit/Star%20Wars%20In%20Concert/IMG_9276.jpg Here are some pics of some of the things you will see in the exhibit. I'm pretty sure we missed some of the exhibit due to one of the floors being locked off once the show ended... or they may not have had enough room. I think we missed Chewbacca, R2, and possibly some models (which really ticked me off as I'm a bit of a model freak). (Sorry for the poor quality of some of the shots. The lighting was non-condusive to the exhibit, the glass was highly reflective, and I was as excited as a little school girl when viewing these pop-culture artifacts and had been waiting my whole life to see real Star Wars paraphernalia in person). I desperately want to see this but alas, going to the US for a concert and some props is a little too expensive. | 2009-11-30 10:34:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
I desperately want to see this but alas, going to the US for a concert and some props is a little too expensive. Well I saw it here in Canada. It started in London at Elstree Studio's where they shot the original movie. Inidentally, the show's conductor (Dirk Brosse) is from Belgium. The good news is, its organisers have revealed that they are planning to take the tour around the world in 2010, so you may get the chance if it's somewhere close to you. Do some sniffing on Google and you should be able to find some info on the world tour and where in Europe it's hitting. | 2009-11-30 14:33:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |

I know Dirk Brosse (well, not personally) so thats a nice bit of info. I'll have a lookout for the European tour, thanks Bukkit!! | 2009-11-30 14:56:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
This Star Wars thing came to the arena in my town, and they were looking for people from local choirs to do some of the backup vocals on certain songs. My friend Patrick (Vmethos) was lucky enough to be chosen. He got to meet the guy who plays C3PO, and he said it was the experience of a lifetime. Unfortunately, I did not get to go, and I regret it. He's got some pictures, but has been lazy about uploading them. Maybe I'll bug him about them. ^_^ | 2009-11-30 16:02:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
I saw this in London earlier in the year (i know, me? go figure!). Was a pretty awesome experience hearing the 70-odd piece RPO do the 20th Century Fox theme and the Main Star Wars theme, the sound was pretty phenomenal. The first and last 20 minutes were amazing, goosebump stuff, but the middle section was let down by some of the not-so-iconic moments from the prequels scores. They played the Anakin/Padme Love Theme rather then the Han/Leia/Empire theme (which is probably the most emotive of all the Star Wars themes) , i wanted to heckle them! (laugh). | 2009-11-30 23:12:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
