Level Publishing - 2 Creators?

Archive: 18 posts

We know online create comes out on Monday. Yippeee! But one big question was left unanswered when creating a level in online create mode with a friend. If your friend helps/collaborate with you to make a level, is there an option to put there name as one of the creaters of the level? ex: Twilight Mountain by L1GhTmArE & Sabre_. If it does thats sweet because i would like credit to be given to the person that helps me make a level but not someone who justs make an apperance. I wanna know before me and my friend make a joint/group account just to publish levels we made together like how it was done with the logic pack. Also will content like DLC material (MGS metal ect.) be blocked from using in online create if the other person doesn't own the material? Or does it matter whos hosting? I would very much appreciated these questions being answered.2009-11-28 07:36:00

Whoever publishes the level has their name on the level. Only one creator is listed automatically. You can put the collaborator's name in the description but that's about all.

So when you decide to work with a group it's important to figure out who's publishing it so they can keep it on their moon as well. It's not like all the collaborators can work on it whenever. The host has the actual level on their moon and can publish it locked and send out keys to friends to work on but then you have to use that other copy of the level. It's just like create now if you pass levels along that way.

DLC - whoever is hosting must have the DLC your using.

It's a shame that the other creators' names won't be listed alongside the publisher's. However, what I'm really concerned about it rewinding...2009-11-28 21:26:00

However, what I'm really concerned about it rewinding...

You learn to work around not being able to rewind. Most things you do when creating can easily be undone without rewinding anyway, it's just more convenient if you can rewind. When you make a mistake you just have to think "can I fix this without requesting a rewind?" and in most cases it'll only take several seconds to fix.

You've also just got to be more careful when creating with other people. Takes a bit of getting used to, but after a while it really isn't a problem.

Sadly, I rewind a lot And what's even more unfortunate, I keep breaking things xD

You'll be alright, Korny - the system is very, umm, polite when rewinding and pausing!

ROFL
i will try to stay away from online create, it can become a pain, really when i am making some sort of tank treads (witch i you might never see) that is when things can get messed up VERY EASY. but other things, if it is moving something back to the way it was then i dont have to, but it is simple to just press a botton to do it, and that is what i do!

It would be useful if there was the ability to create LBP groups. These groups would basically be like a shared profile. You could heart and publish things just like a normal profile.2009-11-29 02:07:00

I'm really not keen on the publishing system. It shouldn't have been hard to haev the level appear on multiple profiles, with shared stats. Might have needed an inbetween page for "see more by this author", but it could have been done. People don't read descriptions, so whoever publishes the level will be the one reconised for it, and to get the most attention to your level, you are likely to publish under the more "famous" creator anyway, the person who is least in need of publicity. It's dumb.

Regarding rewind: As people have said, you get used to the rewinding thing very, very fast. I'm really bad for hitting undo the moment something isn't 100% right. Plus a lot of logic design for me involves constant testing, so unpauseing, rewinding, repausing, so it can be a major hassle, but I learned to live with it and so can you!

One thing to remember is that you don't have to do all of your creating online. If you need to do something a bit experimental that involves messing with pause/rewind, you can always bugger off and do it on your own moon, then bring it back to the group session as a collected object later.

Regarding rewind and pause:

You can easily work out a system with whoever you are creating with.

Let's say you have a problem with someone inadvertently hitting the rewind or pause button (the pause is the worst, since there is sometimes lag in the popit, so you hit up multiple times and then the popit closes). You can work out a system where the host ignores the normal requests, and will only take action if the person makes a custom request.

By default, you just get a message that says, "Please rewind" or "Please Pause/Unpause". These don't appear any different than if the player were to type these out themselves. Instead, you could pause or rewind if the player says something like, "Hey, can you rewind a few times." This is where having a keyboard comes in handy - I went out and got one once I got into the Beta.

(I hope this doesn't violate the NDA, as it comes out tomorrow)

I don't think so since it is all related to information and features that Mm has already revealed. I think if it is information related to the insight gained from our experiences, it just gives everyone coming into OC a nice heads up so to speak.

I think a mic is handy myself, as you can just ask for the rewind, pause etc or the host ask if doing so is cool. Keyboard is a huge plus if you don't have a mic.

It really takes a different mindset as I had said before, I tried to build things in such a way that I never needed to rewind. For example, making a copy of an object before I added another addition, especially those that might cause an issue. Rather than rewind, I delete the mistake, make another copy and go for it a 2nd time. ...or just return to a blank level on my moon with the captured object and return later with it completed.

Took me a little while to figure out rewinding, but It's not as bad as you think. You can get used it, But its always better to work with people who already know your system than jumping in with some intollerable spongebob that doesn't know.
Work it out with your friends, and best to have a keyboard/mic to ask, "Is it ok if I rewind now?"
So yeah, It's not so bad.

Back to nam thing. Best way to do is have the intro inside the level to say by all the people who collaborated.

Yeah, online create does get some getting used to, and there is definately a bit of a learning curve.

But, once you get into the swing of it it works really well.

When xkappax, catiers, morgana25 and myself were building a REALLY big level we just had to adjust our routines a bit - I was building non-mechanical pieces for the next section while Larry built mechanics in a section that Sara was building the pieces for - and Morgana was making a whole other area nice looking and adding lighting effects. So, during that time the only one who was working on something that may require rewinding was Larry.

When you get organanized and learn to use the system well, it is definately effective.
