Huh?! Is this a bad joke?!

Archive: 36 posts

Something really weird happened... I've got a friend request from a guy called renziwins, normally i don't reply to those but out of curiosity i looked who he was and what levels he had... big surprise there! I saw the following levels
Jumper green & blue zone by deboerdave
a level that play itself by centurion
the bunker by poms
and some others i don't really know, several had an LBPC badge.
I don't know if they are exact copies of the original, but the bages and description was. The level from centurion even said "made by centurion".
How's this possible, did the authors made it copyable and is this just a bad joke from renziwins or what?

I did have a little chat with him, when i asked why he republishes them and don't give credits to the original authors he said "they don't care!"

huh?!

I'm serious!!! (kinda) If there is a possible way to copy peoples levels, then this is the worst thing that's happened since h4hing was invented! :O2009-11-26 18:38:00

Did you play the levels yourself to see if they were exact copies? If not, I think it could just be what littlebigdude said (of getting other people's plays, not the multiple personalities thing ;-2009-11-26 18:50:00

theres is a copyable version of the bunker that i noticed. It think poms may have accidentally made it copyable for a few seconds but someone was quick enough to pick up on it so published it and made it copyable2009-11-26 18:52:00

IT COULD HAPPEN!

I didn't play any of them till the end.
Checked the jumper green and that looked very much like dave's levels (big green flashy background and platforms with bubbles) even the "try again" animation when you die at the scoreboard was tesame. Although i think the original is slighty different though... I checked the beginning of the bunker and it did look like pom's version, although i'm really not sure since it's a really long time since i've played the original. Centurion's "a level that play itself" was from centurion, because in the beginning of the level it says "made by centurion" ?

EDIT: the bunker is indeed the copyable version chuk chuk mentioned, you can still copy it
So this guy basicly publishes levels from other authors, has no respect for them and just adds "please rate and heart" in the description... sad

unfortunately he's not the only one who does this =/ dawid15 (or is it 14? XD) is rather infamous for this. i don't think he's made a single level in his time playing lbp. he changes the icons, the level titles, and sometimes edits the levels slightly, but he has copies of several famous levels including defmunky666's bomb survival, wexfordians "the matrix" and the infamous "fireman between heaven and hell" level >.>

odd that he has these levels though o.o. I didnt realize they were made copyable by their respective authors. He says the authors don't care, eh? perhaps centurion, deboerdave, and poms might dispute that (as they're all members here).

Yes, asking the 3 creators would be the best answer. There are sometimes reasons why creators make levels copyable. I do it all the time so friends can playtest or have a look at how things work etc. However, they're always copyable and LOCKED! Maybe our three friends made them copyable for moments and didn't have them locked. Maybe this other person is or was their friend? Who knows.

A poor show though, definitely.

That's why i was confused, I had no idea as well those levels were once copyable. I've checked again and the levels are from poms, centurion and deboerdave. He even has 3 levels with a "LittleBigCentral" badge on them (pretty crappy jump levels). I'm wondering who made those...
I guess his next level will probably be moving parts.... sigh
(wrote dave a mail and will let centurion know next time he's online)

Y'know, whether or not this guy has actually copied, duplicated, or faked these levels, I would drop him like a ton of bricks.

Hi Misty, yes I'm pretty sure there is a copyable version of deboerdave's Jumper Red and Blue Zone. (It can be found under PSN ID: stonemannn). And I'm certain CENTURION24 made his Level That Plays Itself x4 copyable as well. So that would explain why all the levels have been copied by so and so.

Yes, all the levels mentioned were/are copyable. I say you delete him, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with someone like that.2009-11-26 22:26:00

One of the most copied level i've seen in the Communityi is the level by "Yama...", i can't remember the complete name of the author and of the level, basically it was an adventure under the ocean, and it has a shark as icon. Anyway, it's still copiable. It's strange to see (when someone republish it) a great level with the description "PLZ % STARZ AND HEART".
Only poor minds need to copy levels.

The level you speak of is called Distress in Ocean.

i just checked, and yes. these are the real deal. totallt stolen. If he claims these as his own btw, this is a violation of internet/digital copyright law, and if he lives in the US can be sent to prison. Or get a $25000 fine.2009-11-27 01:13:00

In the case of The Bunker, there's an explanation for that.
I made it copyable months before it became wellknown.

I was in the middle of a "LittleBigCrisis", because nobody was playing my levels... so I decided to give up creating levels.
I made my two levels copyable (Hell's Angels and The Bunker) and went to sleep.
The day after, a friend told me I was nutts, and someday someone would call me copier.
Yeah, it was a mistake, so... I decided to update both levels and restart them. And that's when both went to 1st page...

Still some noob tells me I copied The Bunker... luckly, the copiers didn't delete the intro saying "The Bunker by poms".

That's why I was very concerned with what happened to "Aalone", I thought: "It could have happened to me".

Yep. At that moment I couldn't imagine my levels would get too far.
There were only two copys of The Bunker and one of Hell's Angels.
The problem is one of the copiers published The Bunker and made it copyable. I spent weeks reporting him, but never got moderated, so more and more copys were published everyday.

I got scared for the first time when my levels were in highest ranked and some who copied was posting saying "If you think this is good, try my version of it". Luckily, he was moderated.

Of course, now you may say: "poms, what were you thinking about???". But the thing is many levels are published copyable everyday, and nobody cares. The thing changes when one of this levels becomes a great success. Then nobody wants to be a copyer, but everybody would like to be the author.

No. We aren't business entities and we don't have "copyrights" because we didn't produce anything. We could have talked about intellectual property rights but then again here there would be no ground for a lawsuit because you agree that what you create is not yours in the EULA.

So, it's happening again, is it?

This happened back in like February, too. When cool levels got changed to the 7 days system, I saw levels popping up that were by Punch-Jeff and wexfordian, but the publisher's name was cheaterino. I knew this was wrong right away. I went into the info on these levels and looked at the pictures, and they had stickers all over them by kind people from the community that said "This level is stolen"

I guess this is a lesson in "why not to ever make your level copyable" ... it makes me sad, though, that people would do this. Anything for a trophy, I guess.

Edit: On the subject of people stealing things. With online create coming out, I think it is very important for everyone to know this. Do not let anyone you do not trust into your levels in create mode. People can just come in, object capture your items, and take them. I had someone do this to me in online create. He took something that I had worked on for about an hour and then left. Please be careful.

Yeah, with online create it will probably be more important than ever to not allow people on your psn friends list unless you know them. Especially since it's really easy to "accidentally" accept a join request. You could be hitting the button for a different reason just when someone asks to join.

Oh, and Sara.... don't worry - I deleted the object later. Turns out your "kicking leg" object had limited use. I never knew it took you an hour to build, however.

Lol. Ccubbage, it was not you. It was someone who wasn't even on my friend's list. He came in with someone else.

Btw, Ccubbage: I recreated that thing (Kickin' Karl) in the actual game. It will live on forever. ^_^

Oohhhh... that could DEFINATELY be a problem - people on your friends list bringing other people in that even THEY don't know.... wow, I'm definately going to need to turn on that auto-reject feature when creating. I would hate to think up an original idea and have someone come in and grab it!2009-11-29 15:11:00

I wouldn't call it a loophole, just something to be careful with. Pre-plan your create sessions with people you trust, and make it clear between each other that you don't want anyone else coming in.2009-11-29 17:07:00

Yes you're right. I'm sorry if I sound bitter toward the game and Media Molecule sometimes. This game and me is such a strong "love and hate story" you know. But yeah, I won't bring someone I don't trust into my level.
Also, can't we kick someone by the "manage player" menu?

Absolutely. Get rid of them before they can find something to copy, and it should be a non-issue. There is a delay from when it tells you the player is joining and when they are actually in the level, so you can quick-kick them if necessary.

I think we can lock this thread,

he has taken "the bunker" and "a level that plays itself" down.
The jumper levels are still there, but they have been copyable on dave's other account.
I don't know who made the other levels on his account with the "LittleBigPlanet Central" badge
