I was super hyped for this before the first trailer came out... Now I'm cautiously optimistic. The story seems kind of standard humans invading the alien world, but James Cameron can make a hell of a movie... so we'll see.2009-12-02 05:26:00

Got a thread going for this here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=13226

I'm definitely hyped for this. I don't even care much for the story/characters. It's pretty clear to see what's going to happen. I'm not totally sure how it's going to end, knowing that it's the first part of a planned trilogy (count on it). But I'm really not seeing this for an original story. This is SPECTACLE. This may very well top Lord of the Rings for sheer visual scope. I don't doubt at all that it's going to be mind-blowing in Imax 3D, this is exactly the kind of once-in-a-while movie that I just love and look forward to. Not all the time. Not even every summer. Just once every few years or so, a huge overblown epic awe-inspiring spectacle movie. NOBODY does this better than Cameron. Nobody has EVER done this better than Cameron. I've already got my tickets and am actually taking a trip down to Seattle (~3 to 4 hour bus ride each way) and staying overnight pretty much for this one movie.

Can't wait. Will probably be seeing it a second time in the same weekend to go with my girlfriend, but she understands I have to take the trip to see the midnight show on that Thursday in Seattle. It's my pilgrimage.
