First Annual Rose Parade

Archive: 68 posts

Well I ran this idea through a social group yesterday and got some good feedback along with suggestions and questions answered but i need get more from the community.
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=830&pictureid=9022

In this contest single people, teams, and social groups will work on and submit there very own float to be in my Rose Parade level where they will be ooo'd and awwww'd by the LBPC community. The level will be exactly like the Rose Parade but far more grand! The floats will go by and do there thing while me and a co-host do commentary. The floats will be judged by the community and afew judges. The parade will take sponsors and donations from social groups and have there name mentioned "This Rose Parade is brought to you in part by *GROUP/COMPANY NAME*" and also have there logos and names on various surfaces. The Level will be captured in a video for your viewing pleasure . Just afew things I'll need first.

FLOATS! now taking submissions, they can be w/e you want, it can represent a social group, a level series perhaps? anything. just leave comment saying you want to be in the parade and we will save a spot for your float All entries are due December 29

First: 750 exp also receives extra prize
Second: 500exp
Third: 250exp

We're also taking sponsors now, you'll get your social groups logo or face in places and get a mention like i explained above exp donations will go towards further boosting the exp reward.

Reserved for future use

"Now Hiring" Bulletin Board:
- Judges, Im now accepting people to judge the event.
- We need a camera man with some good video making and capturing skills to sit in with us and capture the magic.
- Need a witty lovable co-host to do commentary with me, must have keyboard.
Guidelines Bulletin:
- All floats must be made on the premade blank car, search my name
-Can only use front two thick layers and the thin layers in front and in-between them.
-NOT REQUIRED but it is customary for floats to have "events" once in camera view or just have moving parts at least.
- IF you have an event that's triggered by a mag key once in view please tell me and we will discuss arrangements.
-SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE COVERED IN FLOWERS LIKE THE REAL ROSE PARADE! Its just called Rose Parade because it was inspired by it and will be held same day, so please make the coolest float you can, floats in no way have to resemble the ones in the real parade unless your really bent on it.
- Im not accepting any floats now because its not yet close enough to the deadline
- You may enter multiple floats but only one can place 1st,2nd or 3rd

Well, you've got me interested. Just imagine that: a float decorated with scrapmetal and fire, with the hoverboards and flyers pertruding off of a high rock column. And, resting atop it, sackboy cutouts of me & my team standing on top of the logo IStwisted designed! That'd be AWESOME!!

Well come on now! I know others would LOVE to contribute! Like, I can see Joey & Morgana "Duurp"-ifying to the extreme, and Rock re-creating "Mount Peanut" atop his ! Don't be shy, you guys! This could be really spectacular if the community can pitch in.

I think you should start with a level. Create the base of the parade float and make it a prize. Explain the concept on LBP and see if people respond. Little big planet is a whole lot bigger than LBPC.

I take it your family loves the rose parade. I think they should be the judges.

Personally I don't think I've ever watched the rose parade but I would definitely
make a little big float for the Little Big Rose Parade.

You're interested. That's the most important part. If you want it to happen, it will. I'm in. And Jack it seems.

How many floats do you think the thermo would let us have? 10 maybe, depending on how extreme they get.

How many layers thick should the base be. 2 if you want visiting sack people to be able to run up and down the front layer like a side walk.

Go to my level CC08 The Twister to see the bases I made for my carnival contraptions.

i was thinking 2 layers, i would actually make an animated crowd and just use the layer glitch trick to put them in, but would still need the back thick layer for the room where commentary is done, ill have to watch some previous rose parades to see what kind of scenery needs to be made. Im sure more than 10 can fit but first we need people to say they'll do it. Think we can move this over to contest thread, apparently we're doing this 2009-11-26 01:09:00

I was trying to make a sackboy doll ahem... action figure for the winner but it's my first one and it looks more like gumby than a sackboy. So for the winner I will paint a custom LBP picture just for you.

Ummm... does making the prize disqualify me as a contestant?

I'll still make a float either way.

nope don't see why it would.
We will also have an exp prize but first a mod or something has to get on and move this thread and then discuss how much exp will be offered.

Anyway, yes... this may be of vital use to us :kz:

I can't wait to see what you make.

@littlebigdude: I had to change the materials for the base. The cardboard kept breaking. changed the base to basic metal and the wheels to rubber.

that's alright, as long as the wheels stay the same size and you don't tweak the bolts it only helps, it originally was ALL cardboard but you could see the problem with that :kz:

and know you don't need to tell us anything about your float before hand, just that it will be there.

I think it might be a good idea to make a copyable level template and have each participant insert there float at a predefined start point and republish. Then a separate video can be captured of each level and spliced together afterwards to make the parade video.

I was just working on a float and using LOTS of flower decorations and it was eating up the thermo. With each float published separately it would free up thermo for people to get extreme.

how much thermo did it take up?
im not good with videos so splicing would have to be done by the camera person if we get one.

the one I'm working on, once complete, could easily take up a quarter. I guess it remains to be seen how much you will need to complete the parade. Maybe a better solution is for you to make sure you have a saved template in case you have to make a "part 2".

we need a marching band.

I'm entering. My float has nothing to do with flowers, instead I focused more on promoting a company/group as you said.
Also, how are we going to get our floats to you?

EDIT: I published a level titled "Rose Parade float - Redragon Eatery" with the prize bubble for the float at the end of the level. Is this an okay way to share our floats?

yes if you have a specific event to happen once it has the spotlight then tell me which mag switch triggers it and (i can tweak mag switches on community objects right?) ill make arrangements. Also as said before, in no way does your float have to resemble the fruity flower covered floats that usually appear in the rose parade lol.2009-11-29 18:55:00

i published, but accidentally called it rose bowl parade: monster float

2 way switch moves, button makes the event, and there's a jetpack to get on it under the leaves.

FYI

I just played Project_MK and Falcon434's. Looking good guys.

Create mode wouldn't allow me to change the monster float and I couldn't use Red dragon eatery due to God of war mini pack content.

Isn't there a way to make your prizes editable?

I still haven't decided. I have several float ideas that i'm working on. but it is one of them. I made a ramp with it where it jumps and takes a snapshot of you flying through the air in the sleigh. It's very fun crashing that sleigh. I'll edit this post with pics soon.

p.s. I also made a huge peach floaty rig and fired a crap load of glass at it to make it fly (Outlaw style)

here's the pic:

Ends Dec 29 is what i think i posted. Look up some videos on it, its extremely long so yea just look at a few floats for the general idea. They don't have to be all flower and stuff,I am really looking for floats that represent groups and level series and other LBP related stuff. This is also good for some people to get ad space and mentions.

Its just called Rose Parade because i got inspiration from the rose parade and its held the same day that mine will be ran.

I'd love to be a judge or co-host. However, I've already entered a float, so I think it may be a little unfair to be a judge. I'm also lacking a keyboard, but I can get one in a snap.
