Mountain Pass

This is from the iScribble room when we were doing the mountain room, and after we finished drawing the mountains, we were trying to figure out HOW to play it. Then I came up with an idea that would be impossible to put in a 2-D plane. You can switch between the three planes in LBP at any time, right? If not, then I'm sorry, but people said you could. Anyway, there would be three planes, and different mountains in each plane. At times, there would be things blocking your way- say, the mountain ends, or maybe there's just a huge cliff. So, you switch between the layers to find a new path through the mountains, and to find prize bubbles or whatever hidden goodies there may be. Oh, and the mountains will either be made from stone or cardboard just to make them look funny. Yep. | 2008-09-24 21:15:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
From my experience in the beta thus far, you can switch planes at any point. Therefore, your idea is sound in theory. Sounds interesting; I can't wait to check it out at some point. | 2008-09-24 21:23:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
Very interesting idea. If you check any videos of the beta, specifically the first level, you can see areas where there's a similar-effect part with green hills. You can see other relating things in various other places, but that should be the easiest to find (considering its popularity of late). So yes, it's very doable. The only thing is that you'll need to find some way to make the levels separate, but still connecting to each other. And, at the same time, preventing the character from being blocked from view by layers in front is also to be considered. You could have each of the layers be mostly side-by-side, to involve a more horizontal climbing and easy switching between the layers for puzzles, but that may be against the more vertical nature of what I think you're trying to present. Alternatively, you could have the different layers meet at various points, allowing the player to switch and climb higher, but then have those previous levels have higher sections to switch back onto. Just some random input. | 2008-09-25 02:26:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |

Though it would be wise not to put a firey pit, behind a mountain. That would get me mad. | 2008-09-25 02:28:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
I would so have random things killing you in the mountains. And you should have only one respawn next to the entrance. This way, you level will be nearly impossible to beat. And extremely dicouraging... | 2008-09-25 02:32:00 Author: Unknown User |

...Huh? Please, explain yourself. Those three sentences were horribly disconnected to both each other and the quotation. Be specific. Don't try it. You're not going to receive anything more than incoherent babbling from those as lowly as Whaaaaale... | 2008-09-25 02:42:00 Author: Unknown User |
...Huh? Please, explain yourself. Those three sentences were horribly disconnected to both each other and the quotation. Be specific. There's 3 layers. Let's say your on the middle layer, There's a mountain in your way, and there is a mountain on the Front layer as well. So you go to the 3rd layer. The furthest one from the screen, obviously you wont be able to see where your going because there is mountains in your way ( 2nd and 1st layer mountains ) Get what I mean now? And as for you Clank, why are you being so mean to me all of a sudden? I'm being serious. | 2008-09-25 03:02:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

I love you, Whaaaaale. I'm being serious. WTF!?!?! Someone else must be posting as me, because I would never say that. | 2008-09-25 03:11:00 Author: Unknown User |

And, first, that covered in my second paragraph. Second, I assumed that this was about having all three layers being mountainous regions and moving between them as the basis of a level. Third, you two need to take your love/hate relationship to somewhere where spam is more appreciated, rather than cluttering up other threads with it. | 2008-09-25 04:49:00 Author: Mark D. I know you covered it in your 2nd paragraph, I'm stating my opinion that I think it would look better like that, you said "you need to have a way to unblock the view" So I said, I personally would think it would more realistic and original. As I said in the post that you didn't understand. | 2008-09-25 04:51:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
