Shredded controller - Analog stick cover thingy

Archive: 14 posts

Hey - we've managed to overwork our best controller (the one Dual-Shock that we own) and have shredded the thumb pad covering on the left analog stick (pics below).

Anyone know if replacement covers can be found/purchased for these? I've looked on Sony's main Playstation site, and have done a few Google searches, to no avail. The controller works perfectly, it's just not as comfortable as it once was and certainly doesn't look as nice.

I've pulled it completely off after I took these pics, as it was just an annoyance. Looks like the part could definitely be replaced by slipping a new one over the top of the stick.

Thanks!

I see that whole analog sticks are on sale on ebay. I can't see anyone selling just the "covering" though. I would suggest just gluing the top back onto it using crazy glue/model glue, that should do the trick (as long as you're careful where you dab said glue!!).

I have to ask though... just what DID you do to that poor controller??

Thanks - maybe we'll give that a try. Go get me a new bottle of Gorilla Glue.

Actually... I blame it on CCubbage and his barrel roll !! lol

I have 2 controllers that I bought with the PS3 on launch day and the left analogue stick on both is knackered. They are squeaking like mad and keep sticking so mrsv bought me one of the new ones with the rumble feature. I never knew you could get replacement sticks so I'll have to get some and refurbish the old ones. Unless Sony will replace them ( yeah when hell freezes over maybe ! )

Anyway Vortex could you take the cover off the right stick and transfer that to the left one until you sort something permanent? Not ideal I know but at least the right stick isn't used as much as the left. Just a thought.

I don't see why you could just put the old cover back on. It looks pretty much intact albeit not where it's meant to be. Unless I'm missing something in the pictures it looks like attaching a new cover would just be the same as reattaching the old one.2009-11-22 21:02:00

No - it is torn. The part that is flipped up in the pics is meant to be attached to the piece underneath the stick. Imagine two halves of a clamshell.2009-11-22 21:09:00

It could happen while playing Ninja Gaiden or Megaman 9 I suppose. 2009-11-23 11:03:00

Just a thought.. I found a few on ebay that were being sold for parts.

Not that this was the best one out there or anything, but you might be able to find one pretty cheap.
