How to make a custom SWITCH which you can customize to do whatever you want

Archive: 9 posts

Welcome to How to make a custom SWITCH which you can customize to do whatever you want. this switch is a simple two way switch to make 2 diferent things happen with one switch the point of this swicth is to make a logic switch as simple as possible so instead of having a normal switch this is a custom logic switch

To Make this Switch You need:

Block of wood

One thin piece of wood

Bolt

2 mag set switches

circle shape of sponge

once you have the materials required:

glue the sponge to the top of the thin material.

attach a bolt to the base of the thin piece and attach it to the block of wood.

set the tightness of the bolt to 10

add a set of mag switches to the base each side of the wood .

add a set of mag keys to the sponge on each side

tweak switches accordingly and there you have it a fully functional multi tasking switch

There is a more detailed tutorial in game i made called: How to make a custom switch: or just search my name: ShakeMeUpJudy. once you complete the level you get the switch as a prize.

i know this was quick and rough but i though i can't post this in the level showcase as it is more a tutorial than a level

Yes... I too am confused. Not sure what it is supposed to do. Plus, your instructions are a bit confusing. For instance, you tell me to:

add a set of mag switches to the base each side of the cardboard.
But cardboard is not even mentioned in your list of required materials.

Not trying to be mean or overly critical, I just don't understand.

Yeah, at the end of the day, you instructed me to make a switch, but never told me how to make the switch.

What was the sponge for? How do we line up the wood blocks? Where does the bolt go? How many keys? How many switches? Are they all the same color? What are their radaii like? Etc...?

And, what does this mean?

I don't understand why posting it here instead of the level showcase section has any bearing on how thorough you are. In the future, some pictures might help. Maybe even just a very thorough, idiot proof explanation of exactly what you did. As it stands, I have no idea what in the world you created, since I can't see what it is you think I can see when you describe it in this way.

Oh! Like a custom two-way switch!? Knowing that, it kinda makes sense... but, yeah - there's no way I'd've known how to make one from the directions.

It's best to assume that the reader has absolutely no idea what you are trying to make. Dumb it down as far as humanly possibly.

From what I read, I believe it looks something sort of like those switches you make to create flickering light. Except your has been converted to a multi-task switch... ehh ill check the level out.2009-12-14 03:25:00

Well.. Why not re-name the topic? It's basically a 2-Way Switch with a User-Created Skin..

Here's a little, quickly made, image of how this could look (made in paint).

Arrows: The way it can turn
Yellow: Sponge
Brown: Wood
Beige Thingie: Bolt
I also added some range on the Mag Switches aswell, if anyone's interested..

But: I, personally, hate these switches. They're not functional, they're more thermo heavy than the others, and they're not unique!
I once saw a tutorial, where someone made a wheel instead. And that is an absolutely wonderful idea! I believe it was rtm223.. If not, pardon me!
