Axel F - Beverly Hills Cop Theme Music

Axel F - Beverly Hills Cop Theme Musiccomishguy67 & steve_big_guns
The main theme tune to the classic 80s film Beverly hills cop
all
This was a joint creation with the music created by comishguy67 and the visuals by myself.

Its layed out as a typical music level, but I decided to hide all the switches and create something visually entertaining to go with the theme of the song. You will drive a mercedes benz 560 along a california beach created using the layer glitch, with various objects from the movie including a giant Eddie Murphy head .

Played this last night and thought it was great.

The music did go a bit glitchy at times but then I do suffer a lot of lag even on my own so maybe that was the cause. It mostly played ok though and sounded very good. I loved the design too. The Eddie Murphy head and the gun were superb. How did you make that head look so good. What technique did you use if you don't mind me asking. I'm always looking for advice on that sort of thing because I'm hopeless at characters.

I did make a level with FF7 character cutouts months ago but it took me ages and was very difficult because I didn't know about the corner edit tool then and probably made it ten times more difficult for myself than it should have been so I've never tried any more since.

Sorry I'm waffling. Great work again guys anyway.

I played this a few nights ago - very entertaining. Probably one of the top music levels I've seen. And, obviously, some great visuals to boot.2009-11-19 20:15:00

I used google to find a hi res picture I could recreate in the editor. I have the image displayed next to me on my laptop. Before I bought myself a laptop in june I used the ps3 web browser and had to recreate the objects from memory. With a reference right next to me its very easy to create objects like those in around an hour.

For the head I merged cardboard and blue wood into rubber. The rubber was used for the main area while the cardboard and blue wood was used for details such as the nose eyes etc.

Nice! I don't have the artistic skill to do that, so I usually take a picture with the PS eye, put it on a piece of cardboard in create mode, and cut the shapes... more like tracing than drawing.

But that Eddie Murphy looked fantastic! The water in the distance and the way the lettering reflected off it was also very cool.

That would save a lot of time. getting the proportion correct is what takes most of my time. With the tracing method you know that its perfect rather than having to turn your head to the reference image to check for differences.

When placing the text in the level i noticed that it reflected of the glass, so i placed it in the optimal position to create a nice effect. I didnt want to put too much into the level as it may cause lag, ruining the tempo of the music.

This is a 5 star mr. guns. Such work went in and yet there are some awful music levels with 5 stars out there. This is as good as a music level gets, for what it is... a music level... it is 5 stars all the way. Great work Comishguy!!2009-11-24 01:24:00

Why did you republish over again? You can only control the level's rating for so long.2009-11-24 01:48:00

Ah, nothing brightens up a Sackperson's day like Eddie Murphy's giant head.2009-11-24 02:06:00

I think that the song was well done, and the visuals were pretty good for a music level, but I would have wanted the car to either go faster, or look like it's going faster. It just doesn't feel right that a car travels slower than a Sackboy. One way this could be done is to do it like in the train levels, so that the ground moves under you, while the car moves at the same speed it did before, but only looks faster.
At least think of it, okay?

Oh boy, this brought me back to the '80s. Gotta love that. I think everyone has that cassette tape hidden somewhere in their drawer. I particularly liked the beach 3D background. The horizon and sun-setting at the end was a highlight for me. Beautiful.2009-11-24 19:35:00

It got rated down to 3 stars after a few days so I quickly deleted it and publish new with an alteration in the title. 3 stars if a death sentence after a levels off the cool pages. People were complaining about the speed of the car. It has to be that way to keep tempo (its not a race level). Also I was getting comments to add more. The music takes up all of the switch based thermo (pistons, mag keys lights etc). All i could use was materials, stickers and accessories. To be honest the music made by comishguy67 is to a higher standard than the majority of music levels. Maybe I should just make an undecorated level with a block of dissolve to push along the ground infront of all the visible switches displayed on a wall like all the rest. It could be that the communitys just full of jealous haters as can be seen from so many levels recently getting wrongly moderated.

I don't see why they should have been mad about the speed of the car. If you are talking about it being too slow, it just gave you more time to admire Eddie Murphy's head and the gun. Either way, a 5 star level.2009-11-30 02:16:00

Played it a couple of days ago; fell in love with this level instantly.
-Two LBP-giants.
-Visually appealing + lol @ Eddie Murphy graphic.
-Near-perfect audio.
-Nostalgia.

5 Stars & hearted it, iirc. Wasn't signed up to LBPCentral yet.
There's nothing to improve, really.

PS: If people complain about the speed of the car, just tell them to search for 'fastest car'; there are plenty of crappy levels out there with cars that travel through the entire scene in a mere 5 seconds.

I love the level Steve and i think the way you done the background and the Eddie Murphy head was brilliant and very creative. It makes a change to have a music level to relax in with scenery and character instead of sitting on a button going past speakers lol Good job mate 2009-12-01 16:54:00
