Split screen or every sack has it's own camera
Archive: 20 posts
I think this game needs split screen as an OPTION for at home play. It doesn't need to be turned on and the old method could be used, but sometimes it gets really frustrating when the camera pans out and screws you up because somebody is lagging behind or they suddenly die and it zooms in real quick. Also, for online play the camera could stay focused just on the player's sack person and not everybody else's sack people as well This could be OPTIONAL to the player's as well, possibly a check mark by the host before the level starts. Some levels simply need free roam of the players while others do not. | 2009-11-19 06:12:00 Author: Slit518 Posts: 39 |
This would be a good feature so you could split the players up alot further than you could now, it could make for great 2x,3x,4x areas | 2009-11-19 07:19:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
I guess this may be ideal for some situations...But I personally hate splitscreen :kz: Then again, as you said, as an optional feature, yes...Yes I think it would be pretty cool | 2009-11-19 10:59:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
This has been discussed before - I'm not sure however if it was on this board or another. I wouldn't add it as an option for the host, but as a level creating tool. I've thought of so many cool cooperative and competitive gameplay ideas which could greatly benefit from this feature. One, for example, being the "trap battle" levels. I've made one back in the BETA of the game, and several people have picked the idea up so far. Basically, you set up a playing area with several switches activating traps in the level. Each player tries to stay alive while activating traps to kill other players. This works out as a one-screen-level, but a "camera separating tool" would enable for much larger stages. There's tons of ideas which would require such a tool. | 2009-11-19 11:44:00 Author: Treas Posts: 223 |
At least this idea is supported. What about the second option? For online, where every sack person has their own camera following them? It's much like the first but no need for split screen if it's over the internet. | 2009-11-19 12:49:00 Author: Slit518 Posts: 39 |
I don't like the split-screen idea but the online option would be great. You should go tell Shermzor to mention this to MM. | 2009-11-19 13:02:00 Author: Mod5.0 Posts: 1576 |
*Puff of smoke* I have been summoned! *cough* Ok well my understanding is you're only applying this to online play? Split screen offline would definitely cause ps3 crashes but online shouldn't have problems. I'm pretty sure that this would work but with the system of players off screen dying and the general design of 99% of levels making players stick together I'm not sure MM would actually implement it. I'll try and remember though when I see them, thanks. | 2009-11-19 21:11:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |
Thanks for the suggestion and thanks Shermzor for bringing it up to MM. | 2009-11-19 23:03:00 Author: enodrawkcab Posts: 238 |
I would like this idea, but it would cause problems to current levels, such as areas that need players together. Checkpoints would be confusingly changed around during mid-game too. | 2009-11-19 23:32:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
As me fellow evil warlord said, it would almost definitively cause problems to existing levels. If it was an option set by the creator, then it wouldn't break pretty much every level in existence, so then it may be good. | 2009-11-19 23:36:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

Never thought of that...if that could be set in with this idea, then this would be a great addition to LittleBigPlanet. | 2009-11-19 23:37:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
So, your saying each player can have their own screen, but it would be optional, and each player would simply have their own camera following them? How about this. Instead of players ALWAYS having their own screen in offline mode, why not just to where when a Sackboy/girl goes out of the screen, they then have their own screen to see them self(s). And for the online screen modes, I couldn't agree more, people should simply be able to go where they please, and it would eliminate the annoyances of being left behind to die in a race, or something like that. Great suggestion! | 2009-11-20 01:32:00 Author: DaSackBoy Posts: 606 |

Great suggestion! That is what I meant for offline. There will be the main screen (who ever is closer to the goal or if it's indeterminable Player 1), those who split away from it get their own screen until they meet up again. It would also be nice if the user could select the option upon level creation (any time during) if they want to have separate camera screens/have your own screen. | 2009-11-20 01:49:00 Author: Slit518 Posts: 39 |
I think it should best be implemented as a sticky "tool", like camera zones. Set it up, determine the activation radius, tweak whether activating it should separate or reunite screens, and there you go. Of course, there's a bunch of logical issues you'd have to sort out; what if one player hits the reunite tool while the other player(s) is/are off screen? How would the screen separation work in local multiplayer and online multiplayer? But I think that every single one of these problems can be solved. And it would certainly make a nice addition for LBP. I can already see it coming - "Hotel bomb survival with split screen!", "666 jumps with split screen!", "RAMP split screen!" - well, bring it, we're ready. | 2009-11-20 10:06:00 Author: Treas Posts: 223 |
I completely agree with this being an option online, yes yes yes. The checkpoint issue could easily be solved with individualised checkpoints, like, as one player passes by it, that player will respawn there, but another play who hasn't passed by said checkpoint won't. They'll respawn at the last checkpoint *they* activated. Brilliant idea, I love it! | 2010-06-28 00:59:00 Author: Avacadolord Posts: 22 |
This is quite an old thread, is it not? Hmmm.... | 2010-06-28 01:08:00 Author: standby250 Posts: 1113 |
