PlayStation Blog post discusses LBP PSN download problems... sort of.

Archive: 43 posts

This entry was just posted on the PlayStation Blog:

LittleBigPlanet Goes Portable! (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/11/littlebigplanet-goes-portable/)

Those of us still waiting to download this game from the PSN Store will find the following excerpt interesting:

The process, however, has not been without its share of hiccups. We are aware that the game is not yet available on the PlayStation Store, but we?re currently working around the clock to get this issue worked out so keep your eyes peeled for updates this week. We appreciate you bearing with us!This is Sony's first official acknowledgement of the delayed download, and "updates this week" really isn't a comforting statement. Let's hope that LBP makes it into tomorrow's regularly scheduled PSN Store update.

Edit: Oops, I just noticed that Theap Pleman already posted about this in another thread... Well I'll leave this up here regardless for ease of browsing. On another note, it appears even a Thursday release may not happen, but I won't quote sources.

I Called Them:b And They Told Me It Didn't Come out on launch Day Because of the psn problem And With it being Down for so long.

Perhaps I'm just being snooty, but language barriers aside I have a hard time believing anybody with grammar problems of this magnitude.

Personally, a Thursday release sounds like a cookie cutter customer service answer to me.

Its all about the stores... If everyone bought the game online then the stores would make no money.... and think about how much more Sony makes when you buy online... No disc, no case, no booklet and no shipping cost... I think it was EB or Game Stop said they would not carry the PSPGo because it was download only... This is how I see it... I was going to buy a PSPGo, but seeing this and having to wait. I think i'll stick to my 3000.2009-11-18 22:28:00

It is already out in the Hong Kong PSN. And for all other major releases, we did not have to wait. Also, it does not matter if the download version comes out at a different time because the retailers would not be able to sell Go owners a copy anyway. This is truely a technical problem, not some excuse so retailers will sell some games.

I agree. There is no larger conspiracy behind this, just a logistical screw up. A big one.2009-11-18 23:13:00

Reply to question about psn release on playstation.blog

"This game made me buy a PSP having sold my launch system.

It's still not up on PSN at the time of writing, is there any news on when we can expect it?

Eric Levine replied on November 18, 2009 at 11:04 am

Sorry for the delay on the PlayStation Store, we?re hoping to have the game available later this week, stay tuned for updates."

I hope they increase they download bonus by a couple of days from the ones we lost. Also because of all of this crazyness I'm going to wait a little bit after it does come out (like an hour or 2). It wouldn't surprise me if there was another problem, and we didn't get the bonus 6 costumes...

So i'll probably be leaving a message to someone whose downloading it if it comes with the bonus costumes when it does finally come out.

This week is better than next week I suppose, but it's not as good as yesterday.

And now, two more "official word" links that say basically the same thing we've already heard. *yawn*

Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5407639/why-isnt-littlebigplanet-psp-on-the-playstation-network-yet)
Like many of you, we assumed the UMD-less PSPgo meant that popular new PSP titles would be released for download on the same day the retail version went on sale for older PSP systems. According to Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director, Corporate Communications and Social Media for SCEA, that is indeed the goal, but in this instance it wasn't the case.

"The goal is to have the titles available on the same day, and that is usually the case. We're aware LBP isn't on the PlayStation Store just yet, and are working on solving that as we speak. We appreciate your patience."

Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/18/sorry-goers-littlebigplanet-psp-still-unavailable-for-psn-down/)
SCEA's Eric Levine later explained in an email to us that though the company planned on a simultaneous UMD/PSN release, unforeseen problems have delayed the game's downloadable iteration. However, Sony technicians "are working on solving that as we speak."

What did I tell you guys. =P

That the loading time is too long on the UMD version and we should download instead.

At least in one of the replies in the post, it said that it will come out this week, and not next week.

What did I tell you guys. =PYeah, I think we all knew you were probably right but just didn't want to believe it.

Do you think anyone you talked to anticipated the resulting poo storm due to missing the promised release date?

This is reminding me of that one movie commercial....Law abiding citizen i think it was.

when they dig that one guy up from the ground (he's alive) when he's been down there for a long time, then the chief of police mentions that he's leaving to go to a meeting, then they guy they dug up goes, "The meetings going to be cancelled". Then you hear a distant explosion, and then a couple seconds later he gets a call....

If the SCEA guys told you Thursday was the day LAST week, why were there statements saying the 17th from other Sony/MM guys? I'm confused?2009-11-19 04:24:00

Well 17th was the official release date, so I assumed it would be on psn then...but sony ran into trouble uploading it to psn (from what I understand...)

Apparently they knew a week in advance that they'd run into trouble getting it out on time, but didn't bother letting us know in advance

Let's put it like this... how would you like your PR spun today? Seriously though, there's a ton of stuff we don't see behind the scenes when putting stuff on PSN and LBP just happened to be the unlucky one. Believe me, they were trying their best to get it out on Tuesday though.

Yeah, I understand...but I seriously considered getting the UMD version after school today...

Luckily I remembered that it wouldn't come with the 6 bonus costumes, and decided that I was stuck.

Delays are understandable. Failure to communicate is not. This whole fiasco is contrary to the direction Sony is taking towards a digital delivery business model. Jack Tretton needs to reset expectations with whoever is in charge of corporate communications.

Thanks to ScoutsBoo for sending me this.

From Sam:

"The delay of the North American digital release has been caused by a late error found with the game that would cause problems with online connections for some users. The delay has been rectified, but it has needed to clear testing again before it can be released.

If it clears testing today it will be released today, if not it will release with the first store update after testing has been passed. It's regrettable that there is any delay, particularly given PSP-Go users' reliance on digital delivery, but it has been unavoidable."

Don't you think Sony should release LBP PSP on the PS Store, the moment it finishes testing? I think the PSP Go owners (and those that want the Downloadable version, myself included) have waited long enough.2009-11-20 03:44:00

At this point I'm not holding my breath. I'll still check the store daily, probably a few times a day honestly, but if it shows up before next Friday I'll be very surprised.

I still have my PSP 1000, so I'm thinking about picking up the UMD so that I'll have something to do next week on the road. I'll just transfer the save file to my Go later and I can always sell the UMD on Half.com if I don't feel like owning 2 copies of the game.

i expect it before next Thursday (Thanksgiving and all...), but my guess is Tuesday (mostly because Tues/Thurs keep coming up as possible days...)

I have a 3000, but I want the bonus costumes, and don't want to buy it twice...have no one I could give the UMD to (no one with a legit psp at least...hacker friends... )
