Formal Investigation into Create Mode Stability

Archive: 19 posts

There have been numerous reports of instability within the game's Create Mode; as such, I am calling forth a full scale investigation into the supposed stability issues therein. This will get nowhere unless it becomes a community endeavor; mess around with the editor, attempt to do the impossible, go all out, and let's get to the bottom of this. Go Team!2009-11-18 06:43:00

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/l...html?id=693002 - There's the link to the review I took the quotes from.

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/l...g=topics;title - User reports of further instability, PSP crashing, shutting off during creation process

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/l...g=topics;title - Yet more proof of instability

"Many, many times my complex contraptions and mechanisms just explode or screw up for no good reason while in the building process"

"When I want to make an object static, it'll make it dynamic just because it feels like it"

"I've been working on an elevator. A simple mechanism. All the inner workings worked just dandy and fine until I started putting on the finishing touches. The parts begin to flip around for no reason and started to explode."

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/l...g=topics;title

"i have the UMD and i have spent hours watching my creations go to hell because objects will not do what they are supposed to do as far as having any kind of function other then just sitting there."

"you will set a platform to move up and down continuously then for no reason at all when you test it in play mode it will be moving at the wrong angle. then when you go in to fix it the settings will have changed on their own, and on top of that, the platform will be underneath the fixed object its on doing its thing."

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/l...g=topics;title

"If you can somehow prevent pistons from going off at strange tangents, wobble bolts suddenly changing angle, and winches deciding they'd rather be attached to the OTHER side of an object and then throwing it about violently, then yes."

This is copied from another thread I made, but it gets the point across

I was just fooling around in create mode last night, I wasn't even doing anything very complex, just figuring out how to shape things (looks like the corner editor is the only way) and my PSP shut off out of the blue. I've never had any previous issues with other games, it restarted fine but still... it kinda freaked me out.

I wanna do another Starwars level, everyone seemed to enjoy my Starwars - Battle Of Hoth on the console version with 11,000 + plays, never seeing the light of the "Cool Level" pages, but I might wait abit now until we get more info and a fix on these issues, I can confirm from personal experience the handheld restart is very real and happens without warning. I guess if you are working on something save often.

EDIT: It also looks like the links were posted incorrectly or Gamespot has pulled the article altogether.

But guys, cast you minds back to the start of LBP PS3......levels exploding, things unglueing - everywhere there was carnage. And then out of the blue came update 1.01. It changed nothing, but it gave us all hope! 2009-11-18 22:10:00

Gotta argue that.... I was doing some absolutely BASIC stuff and had some pretty unnerving issues:

I put a single static block and a dynamic block on the screen. Attached a stiff piston and a winch between the 2 to create a quick-reset switch.

Looked and worked great.

Exited create mode - was working on another switch for a bit, then noticed the first static block I put on-screen had changed to dynamic and both blocks fell on the floor of the level...

Exited without saving

Went back in - the block was now static again, however when I activated the quick reset switch the piston was now pulling at a weird angle....

This was a VERY simple test, and I'm not a novice creator who freaks over every little thing.... I'm definately going to play for a bit and not try anything complex until there is a patch or 2. I couldn't imagine doing something complicated.

look creating mode only crashes once u make far in story mode, yea sure update, but some of us, have a nice firmware where everything is cute and fluffy, im the type of person that loves to customize everything, from the outside of my psp to the menu and so on, so is my laptop an my whole room, it doesnt feel right if i leave it as it came. so i cant do a freaking update... so i did this, in one save file im passing the game, in the other one i jsut create, switching is a hassle, but i do what i can with what i got...2009-11-26 03:37:00

I've noticed that sometimes the Undo function will undo more than a single step at once (and other times will undo none at all). Maybe this is what happened?2009-11-27 00:41:00

Yes the create mode is very disappointing.

No need to say sorry to Mm though, they didn't make the PSP version, Sony did ( SCEE Cambridge to be exact ). That makes it even worse in my view though because you'd have thought that Sony with all their resources would have got it working much better before releasing it. Obviously they did no testing whatsoever or if they did they just treated us with contempt and foisted it on us bugs and all anyway.

well, in my point of view, always positive, except when im being a cynic, its far and above any expectations i had. hell, it works right? I mean if you skirt around the material shift glitch, you can do some pretty decent stuff in here (for a psp port) and its not nearly as sh*tty as the psp port of sims 2.2009-12-02 05:13:00

Hey, you go and create a game capable of inserting millions of possible object with ability to go online and share content, along with 30 levels and minigames built by you without ANY bugs on launch.

The main issue I've had with the level I'm creating is motorbolts moving.

I create a piece of thin static material, then a large disc of thick non-static sponge, and then fix them together with a motorbolt. So far, so good; I've got a big rotating grabbable platform. However, after working on another part of the level, I play through and discover that the motorbolts have moved off-centre, and I can't put them back in the middle of the discs. I captured the things as objects but then I can't edit them.

Does anyone else get this and how can I fix it?

@thegreatbaldini :
That's the material shifting bug, you have to corner-edit your objects in order to avoid it. Here's a thread about it :
