Post some unique material and talk about different things that have had an impact on your taste in music! -BODY- There are quite a few songs in which friends of mine have noted as "changing the way they saw music". I've listed some down there so you could give them a listen. This probably won't happen to everyone, but what I ask you is what do you think? Are there any songs that changed your taste? Do you regret clicking on this thread? What's your favorite restaurant? | Lots of artists have changed the way i saw music. Aphex Twin is certainly one of them. | A song that made me appreciate music the most was probably Gantz Graf by Autechre. It made me really open to different kinds of music. | I'm speechless after the first link... it's just so awesome! I wish this forum didn't block all the 'sentence enhancers' because i'm not sure i can describe it without them  I love really interesting unusual songs, there are some that just drone on and once you've heard the first few beats you've heard it all.. i like the feeling that i never know what's coming up next Theres a few other awesome songs up there that i like too (Happy up here = yay), hopefully i like some of the others just as much edit: Flicked through them and kind of knew which ones i'd like in the first few seconds.. download, next video. | I definitely like the UNKLE link. I'm a fan of some arcade fire myself. Namely the song "My Body is a Cage." Honestly, I think my tastes are eclectic I pretty much enjoy the entire musical gamut. It really just depends on the mood I'm in. But when I was in high school I was all about the alt/nu-metal kind of music. I'm not sure that's the best word to describe it, but I listened to the Deftones, KoRn, NIN, Tool, A Perfect Circle, etc. But now, I'm more of a blues/soul fan. My favorite band for the past few years has been the Black Keys. Their music speaks to me on some kind of primal level. It makes me feel in touch with all parts of me. It's something that only blues seems to make me feel. I mean Nina Simone, Ruth Brown, Janis Joplin, the O'jays etc. There's nothing else like it. I mean you haven't lived until you've heard Etta's Sunday Kind of Love or Nina's Here comes the Sun. It's a parody of mainstream music. Both that and his other song, Come to Daddy, are the most popular even though they're considered his "joke" songs XD And yes, David Firsth [Locust Toybox?] is a big fan of AFX. He directed two music videos for his songs, "Boy/Girl" and "4". There's a lot to AFX though, from all his aliases. He's so diverse that if needed, he'd have to give a music genre to every song he's made, lol. It took me two years to fully appreciate his tunage. | A new two-person dreamy indie rock band made a tight debut album that I think is worth a couple hundred listens! The band is called Mars Argo. They own a somewhat popular Youtube account, and after teasing us with some awesome music videos they finally released a full length album. I've been listening to it on repeat for a long time now, which takes a lot to do. | Another artist i would like to mention is Pole. Haven't seen him mentioned here, but before i knew him I absolutely couldn't stand dub music (and all my friends did). But this guy completly changed my mind, like he found the missing link between dub and electronic music. Look for Pole 1, Pole 2, Pole 3 (that's how they are called, it's a yellow, blue and red album released on Scape records). But I just wanted to bring up Dubstep in this thread, and though I haven't looked much into it, I think I'd convert you all to Dubstep-ism with this epic mix I found while browsing those interweb thingies. | The Downward Spiral changed everything for me. Layers, layers, and more layers of noise make it the most difficult album I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Songs for the Deaf is almost as challenging, but it wasn't as far from my taste at the time (prior to NIN, of course). However, QotSA was still quite the departure from Pearl Jam, STP, and Zeppelin. TDS really opened up my musical tastes considerably; I've gone through too many obsessive phases to count when it comes to music. The music on my PSP as of today looks something like this: Coheed & Cambria HURT The Killers NIN Pearl Jam The Prize Fighter Inferno Them Crooked Vultures The Who So, it's still a primarily hard rock mix, but there's some other stuff thrown in there too. Other great albums that really took me to a new place as far as music appreciation: Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures Rush - Moving Pictures Neil Young - Harvest Sigur Ros - ( ) Beck - Odelay And - finally - a few tracks to get all of you started... | Daft Punk and Justice were both really influential for me actually. I'd listened to Daft Punk for years but still stuck with rock music because i was so used to it even though i never enjoyed it. Then recently i finally realised that i didn't like rock and was more into the techo-ish genres. Since then i started looking for music a bit more openly and found a few really cool bands like Justice. And their last two albums are some of the most solid electronic albums I've ever heard... Radio Scarecrow especially. I do love their classic stuff too though. This band is called 'Pinkly Smooth' and it was a side project by Brian Haner Jr aka Synyster Gates, and Jimmy Sullivan aka The Rev, both of Avenged Sevenfold. | The bands/musicians that've meant the most to me & changed my way of listening to music are fairly mainstream: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, David Bowie, Miles Davis, James Brown But a lot of other bands have made an equally big impact on me... The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Beck, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Pavement... I could go on for a long time... Anyhow, nowadays I listen to a lot of Them Crooked Vultures, I saw them play live at the 9:30 club in Washington D.C. & they were unbelievable. | Thought I'd give this thread a good ol' bumpin Autechre's new album Oversteps (http://bleep.com/index.php?releaseid=23072&page=release_details) is out for downloading on Bleep.com I'm really impressed, its just so nice to stick on and listen to while getting work done. Its in a way more accessible compared to Confield, or Quaristice... but still has that really complex/obscure integrity. Some weird tracks in there too, like "known(1)" sounds almost psychodelic folktronic-ey... Have a listen to some of the samples on Bleep, but if you're searching on youtube, beware that there's several FAKE leaked versions of the album going around Also, just started listening to Ceephax Acid Crew!
