Unstable Physics in Create Mode

Archive: 23 posts

I've heard reports of entire levels collapsing midway through the creation process because of unstable physics, objects randomly exploding and that "The Creation Editor is unstable and not user friendly for complex builds. [that] Physics bugs can destroy everything you create in the blink of an eye (...)"

How accurate are those claims, does the instability essentially break the Create Mode?

that sounds horrifying: you just made an elaborate level, and your all excited to show people when all of the sudden everything just falls apart. Man, im not sure if this is true, but im gonna be careful. and i havnt worked with lbp all that much, but maybe its because the thermometer got too high, and started erasing objects, maybe(unsure)2009-11-18 05:39:00

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/littlebigplanet/player_review.html?id=693002 - There's the link to the review I took the quotes from.

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/littlebigplanet/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-52291336&pid=954362&tag=topics;title - User reports of further instability, PSP crashing, shutting off during creation process

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/littlebigplanet/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-52277573&pid=954362&tag=topics;title - Yet more proof of instability

"Many, many times my complex contraptions and mechanisms just explode or screw up for no good reason while in the building process"

"When I want to make an object static, it'll make it dynamic just because it feels like it"

"I've been working on an elevator. A simple mechanism. All the inner workings worked just dandy and fine until I started putting on the finishing touches. The parts begin to flip around for no reason and started to explode."

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/littlebigplanet/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-52293609&pid=954362&tag=topics;title

"i have the UMD and i have spent hours watching my creations go to hell because objects will not do what they are supposed to do as far as having any kind of function other then just sitting there."

"you will set a platform to move up and down continuously then for no reason at all when you test it in play mode it will be moving at the wrong angle. then when you go in to fix it the settings will have changed on their own, and on top of that, the platform will be underneath the fixed object its on doing its thing."

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/littlebigplanet/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-52296995&pid=954362&tag=topics;title

"If you can somehow prevent pistons from going off at strange tangents, wobble bolts suddenly changing angle, and winches deciding they'd rather be attached to the OTHER side of an object and then throwing it about violently, then yes."

Well so far two problems has occurred while creating forcing me to delete my level and start over, so...

And my game froze in create mode over 10 times.

Nothing I did not expect. I ran into tons of problems in the first few weeks of the PS3 version.2009-11-18 23:34:00

In regards to the issues facing the create Mode, can SCEA or Sony release a patch for the UMD version?2009-11-19 03:04:00

Is there anyway to contact Sony directly and ask them about their plans for LBP?2009-11-19 03:09:00

Even if you did expect it, it's still a big problem. I mean who wants to create an hour worth of level only to have your PSP freeze on you?

Well donkey show says they can and will...so they can and will fix.

Just gotta wait...which is what a lot of us are doing anyway

This is a feature listed in today's psp update:

[Update] has been added to the options menu for games.
By selecting this option, you can connect your system to the Internet and check whether update data is available for the game in use. If update data is available, you can use this option to download and install the update data.

Awesome find, did they go into detail if the updates are for downloads only or UMD as well?

EDIT: IBTW, do you think the update option is in anticipation of an LBP create mode fix?

I don't know much about how the PSP works in regards to games with DLC and patches, but i'm pretty sure it should work for both. (If the UMD installed something else other than save data onto your PSP then it should)2009-11-19 05:51:00

It'll be the same as the PS3 in regards to patches, downloadable or UMD.

how could that be so though, the PSP-3000 has no hard drive....2009-11-19 11:03:00

It has a memory stick slot that works like a hard drive. In fact, mine has a 16 gb memory stick.2009-11-19 11:32:00

so the memory stick IS the HDD?

EDIT: If Sony doesn't come out with the Create Mode Fixes, I see myself shying away from the psp iteration...

Well I think the patches would install to the memory stick (make sure you have a big enough memory stick for it!)2009-11-19 14:44:00

Patches and updates will be run seamlessly from the memory stick. Wipeout Pure was the first game to do this on the PSP wayyyyyy back in 2005. The only way you know the game is loading data from the stick versus the UMD is the little indicator light. Otherwise it's 100% transparent to the user.2009-11-19 16:13:00

Yes. If you've gotten the UMD version, you'll notice that when you first run the game it "Installs game data" to the memory stick.2009-11-19 16:15:00
