Magic Mouth Help Needed........

Archive: 10 posts

Hey guys and gals,

I'm currently working on a storyline featuring characters with multiple dialogue. But not always one character after another. Some of the dialogue will be said by one character, then suddenly switch to another as if the 2 characters are having a discussion. Others will be triggered by an event in order to tell the player something.

My question is: How can I synchonize the magic mouths in order to achieve my goal?

Thanks

In order to synchronize magic mouths you need to activate them with magnetic switches. If i were you, i'd check out Maraz_Matari's talking tool (if you search talking tool it should come up). He has a nice little setup for conversations etc.

What he does with his tool is move a key within range of magnetic key switches. The mouths talk in the order that the key switches are activated, allowing you to set up conversations, etc.

Some things to keep in mind when using mouths like this:

the mouths must always be on the screen, if they aren't they can disapear.
You can only have 8 magic mouths activated at once, as that is the maxiumum.

Yeah just as burnvictim says. I used Maraz_Matari's talking tool for the dialogue between the 2 red indians in my Sheriff Sack level. Take a look and see if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.2009-11-16 23:42:00

Thanks guys. I'll be sure to check that out first thing tonight.

Also, you know in the LogicTech levels where they had a cutscene and had the dialogue stream smoothly after one another while at the same time making those annoying triangle button bubbles disappear? How did they do that? Did they use this same tool? If you don't get what I mean, please check out the LogicTech levels and you'll se what I mean.

My guess is that they did use the talking tool, or they made their own Its pretty standard stuff. It gets complicated when you do stuff like Johnee's Warzone 2 trailer, but i don't think you're getting that complex '

EDIT: Ignore this, i misread :shame:

The logic pack text was done by ConfusedCartman himself, and I assume it was a unique design. The idea for his design was to use delay switches (as shown in the beginner pack). When the next mouth is triggered, it is set to dissolve the key for previous mouth, so that only one mouth is displayed at a time. I think there was more to it than that, but I didn't poke into it too much.

I haven't seen Maraz_Matari's talking tool, but I'm sure it does something similar.

No i don't, but thats not what this topic is about. Johnee made a thread in ideas and projects a while ago, i'd look there instead.

/rerails.

No, Maraz' tool doesn't quite work like that, i misread, sorry :shame: But smart work on CC's part

I've got the talking tool and it's really neat. And yeah, I was thinking that that's how CC did it, but I wasn't sure. Yes, it is quite clever on CC's part to figure that out. The talking tool is a pretty good system, I like it.2009-11-17 11:07:00
