p4p

Archive: 22 posts

I've seen some people around LittleBigPlanet using Play 4 Play, or P4P. Not a lot of people are doing it, but I have seen a few. I personally think this is a lot better than H4H, but not as good as F4F. What are your thoughts?2009-11-14 18:02:00

Hmmm...
Play for Play?
Isn't it kind of he same thing as H4H?
You get plays when you make a H4H level anyway. (Unless people Heart without playing of course )

True, it is kind of the same thing. But still, it's a little better than H4H:

"Hey, I really enjoyed you level, do you think you could try one of mine?"

Rather than

"h4h pls i hearted u"

I prefer that and I actually play most levels if someone asks nicely in the comments of one of my levels. 2009-11-14 22:38:00

yeah I'm with Syroc - if someone says something nice about my level and then asks me to play theirs...well I have no problem

If it's garbage than I'll give them suggestions...if not then I got to play a great level

imo its better then h4h its not as persistent as h4h you'd get more plays asking nicely then you would in h4h where someone may just heart your level and not play it..

How is it different?

The person is still asking something stupid and it gives them more chances to have a **** heart.

i guess there really isn't should only be used to get plays on a great level instead of something that looks like a toddler created. And should be hearted appropriately not based on the lousy h4h system

I don't really see how P4P is any different to everyday "Play my level!" comments. Except P4P is kind of suggesting that you have to return the favour, it's like saying "I've played your level, now it's only fair if you play mine". And if your level is very popular you end up with hundreds of these.

The big difference with something like F4F is that it's the original author's choice if they want to participate. If they don't have the time to play and give feedback on other people's levels, then they don't get requests for it. But unfortunately on LBP itself, everyone seems to assume that everyone will have time to play their level.

Yeah, rather just demand or expect it of you.

I also hate being told to 5* or heart.

And I hate the stupid attempts at subliminal messaging at the end of levels where they spam you with heart and star shapes.

I did it in one of my levels once, but I felt so stupid for doing it I had to remove it.

I hate anyone asking me to play their level...Unless they have given elaborate feedback. I hate the whole "very cool lvl plz play my omg floor is sinking challenge u will like it". I just ignore them.

I would be more likely to play a level if someone left nice feedback and didn't ask for a play in return.

What kornDawwg said.

Nine times out of ten when someone says "nice level, play mine", I always read:

"Hi there, I haven't actually bothered playing your level, I'm just spamming, but I'm gonna pretend I did play and attempt to guilt trip you into playing mine"

Generally if someone leaves a genuine comment about a level, I'll end up browsing theirs and playing one or two.

Yeah like rtm and kornDawwg said, it's all about how you say it. "P4P!" isn't really any better than "H4H!". But "Hey, really great level. I love the lighting at the part where the insect-thingy attacks, but it's kinda annoying because all you do is shoot it over and over until it dies. Great level otherwise though! Give mine I try!" is perfectly acceptable 2009-11-15 20:24:00

It's still groveling in my opinion. F4F is there not just for plays, but to get positive feedback on your level as to what you might concentrate on changing in order to make it a better level. Completely different than H4H of P4P.2009-11-16 04:28:00

I don't see how this could become the "new F4F". Think about it - F4F implies P4P. You can't give feedback without plays.

If you replace F4F with P4P you gain nothing, but you lose valuable feedback. IMO the feedback is far more valuable than the plays.

edit - yeah, what rustbukkit said, lol.

I have to agree. It still creates this mentality of a drive by you owe me a favor transaction which I dislike. If you have a popular level as mentioned earlier, you could have a ton of these and I doubt I would look at any P4P request differently than H4H.

With F4F here at LBPC we enter into that agreement up front when posting the level with F4F enabled. Both parties in this case are in agreement to the transaction.

Pretty much what rtm said. It depends, if it's just 'p4p' then of course, that's not worth bothering with.

If it's a constructive comment on your level and they ask if there is any chance that you could try theirs because they'd be interested in what you think, then there is nothing wrong with that at all. That is something that should be encourage.

It used to be that useful comments on my levels always resulted in me checking theirs out. Unfortunately that's not quite the case as much anymore as generally I get that many comments on a level it's just impossible to do it for them all. But I still do try my best. But to be fair, most of my feedback and plays come through this forum nowadays anyway really.

H4H, F4F, or P4P...doesn't matter to me. Imo, as long as your level gets some notice that should be enough.2009-11-16 22:16:00
