2012 - Roland Emmerich "doesn't hold back"
Archive: 17 posts
Okay. Heeere we go. 2012 starts today, the reviews are reassuringly bad, and I'm expecting another terrible Roland Emmerich movie, bigger and stupider and more ridiculous exponentially than anything he's done to date. In short, I'm quite looking forward to it. I'm going to brave the crowds I think, and attempt to see this opening night. I cannot imagine the movie's going to remotely surprise me, but who knows. Just looking forward to buckling up and watching earthquakes chase the main characters around in vehicles. | 2009-11-13 12:13:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Heh, 'reassuringly bad'. I'll be watching it regardless of reviews, The Day After Tomorrow is one of those schlocky guilty pleasures I can watch over & over. | 2009-11-13 12:15:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
haha, briliant description! We can give out about this kind of rubbish being spouted out year after year.... but we have to admit to ourselves... We kinda like it really. There will always be a place in my heart for "leave your brain at the door" action extravagansas! | 2009-11-13 12:17:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
Well, I know I'll see it. My mom's been wanting to see this ever since she saw the teaser. One of my favorite Emmerich film's is Independence Day. It looks fun and hey, it's just a movie right? Who doesn't like seeing senseless wanton destruction, it brings the kid out of us all. :-) | 2009-11-13 23:55:00 Author: pantspantspants Posts: 189 |
Wait, so this is Transformers 3? Or am I confused...? . In all seriousness, this movie looks absolutely ridiculous... but in a good way? Eh, we'll see. | 2009-11-14 00:07:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
It's like Cloverfield or DAT or whatever other disaster movie we've seen..... it may suck, but it's FUN I mean, at time like this, we leave behind our sense of storytelling and go back to our deepest human pleasures- seeing things blow up Going today! | 2009-11-14 22:41:00 Author: Astrosimi Posts: 2046 |
I don't think it looks good in anyway... If it wasn't for John Cusack I would say total pass. Roland Emmerich just makes more richly textured crap each and every time out. I predict it's only a matter of time before he will be banned from imdb. His films 'shunned' and unsearchable... I read somewhere that this was gonna be the high water mark for CG and i nearly wet myself... I have never seen one of his films without people laughing at the most inappropriate times! Not me either, I might think or feel it, but I am a conscientious movie-goer. Whether it's the B acting C writing or D directing I just cant wait for those cardboard and balsa building to crumble and flashpots to sizzle. At first glance, this looks like a new all-time low. | 2009-11-15 14:48:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Why does John Cusack always stand in the rain? | 2009-11-15 15:31:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I hope they reveal that the whole 2012 thing was just a huge advertising stunt for this film Then we won't have to deal with gullible people crying over it despite the fact that the last 100 doomsday theories never happened. As terrible as this film looks i just want to see it for the destruction | 2009-11-15 15:43:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Exactly. I saw it today and I was LAUGHING when LA crumbled to the ground. I don't know why, but the train jetting out of the ground like some missile made me laugh my brains out. Not to mention Woody Harrelson's acting..... high spot of the movie, really. It was one of those movies you see for the effects and the mindless destruction... if you see it with any other attitude it's just horrible, really. Coming out last, to a line of people waiting to see it, I looked them in their facxes and shouted; "Funniest movie I've seen all year!" Expressions were priceless. | 2009-11-16 00:23:00 Author: Astrosimi Posts: 2046 |
Well, I liked it. I got what I expected. A fun disaster film. No shame in that. The only weak point to me was.... SPOILERS MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD RUN FOR THE HILLLS!!!!!! (Highlight spoiler below) When Gordon died. His death seemed so unnecessary. He and Jackson should have just become friends after the whole situation. SPOILERS OVER! | 2009-11-17 23:09:00 Author: pantspantspants Posts: 189 |
pantspantspants, that was a bit lolzy. For me, the opening half went like this (slight spoilers ahead, but if you've watched the teaser you'll probably know them): OMG DESTRUCTION BEGINS People escape things as they collapse behind them Car drives with floor collapsing beneath it Political scene Plane drives with floor collapsing beneath it Plane flies through falling buildings Political scene RV drives with things collapsing around it/beneath it (ZOMG NEW) Plane drives with things collapsing beneath it Plane flies with things collapsing around it Political scene ZOMG NEW PLANE New plane drives off with things collapsing beneath it/around it New plane flies with things collapsing around it Political scene Then we get a plane scene with the phrase "uh guys you'd better come see this" repeated about 5 times. THEN we get a new setting! Random dam thingy! That went a bit like this: Sneaky. OH THE INHUMANITY. D'awwww. Sneaky. OH THE INHUMANITY. Sneaky. D'aww. Sneaky. INHUMANITY. D'aww. D'aww. Sneaky! INHUMANITY! Sneaky. D'aww. OH NO. Oh sneaky. D'awww. INHUMANITY! OH WOW! D'aww. Yay! Overall I give this film 10 ends of the worlds out of 2012. | 2009-11-18 00:24:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

I agree there were a bit too many "WE'RE OUTTA TIME!!!111" and "WE HAFTA STAY TOGEDDER!!!!0_O" type lines in the dialog. Plus, as you pointed out the 8 narry plane escapes... | 2009-11-18 20:09:00 Author: pantspantspants Posts: 189 |
