LBP PSP impressions

Archive: 29 posts

I recently acquired the game and will be posting impressions very soon after some documentation work I have to do and a couple of drinks with the industry folk.

A majority of it will be from the creation side, but I will do my best to give you guys a full run down of what to expect from the little brother of the PS3 version.

Some things that really stuck out to me in particular in create mode:

- There's no dark matter. You have the choice between making objects either static or dynamic. Static makes the object levitate, i.e. replicate dark matter, and dynamic makes the objects get affected by the physics of the game. It's pretty f-ing sweet.

- There's also a way to edit multiple corners at once with the corner tool. Again, an awesome addition to the corner tool.

I'll throw up some vids when I get the chance. Sony Cambridge did a wonderful job on this game and it honestly deserves a look if you're an LBP fan.

Here's a vid I took of some of the changes in the create mode.

Will post more as I find new stuff. Also, Single-player is amazingly fun.

Hey, looking forward to your impressions.

I imagine the servers aren't active yet, but if it's possible to give some impressions on the "sharing" aspect that would be great too as no one has really touched on that.

I've found out a couple other people have gotten it too (either by broken street date or....other means)

Here comes the hardest waiting time..... oh boy, I always hate this part when it comes to waiting, so many videos and impressions and you still have to wait a week...

There's some good things and some bad things. But I think its just best to let you tell everyone gurvarrah.

Sharing essentially involves uploading your levels to the server.

Going online will give you a list of levels available for download. I still don't know how that looks considering I have not gone online yet.

These levels are downloaded to a community moon that looks similar to your moon. It just happens to be populated with online stages.

Awesome, can't wait to see what you think! And thanks especially for focusing on create mode - none of the reviews out so far have really touched on it.

Yeah the no dark matter aspect is fantastic. It's definitely enabled me to create things much faster and a lot easier.2009-11-12 16:24:00

Thank goodness no, We don't want another H4H madness on another LBP server. That tab on the back of the case is supposed to describe what the Playstation Network has, not what the Playstation network has to offer for LBP PSP.

Thanks for this donkey_show!

As long as the full lbp is better though, I'm satiated.

Then, ya think when LBP PSP is released when there are lots of levels submitted to the server, The cool levels pages will actually have cool levels. Like when LittleBigPlanet was released for the PS3? And i hope when LBP PSP is released "H4H" will have no meaning within the LBP PSP servers. Now everyone will get their hearts, the way hearts were supposed to be earned in LittleBigPlanet for the PS3.

P.S. This is my longest post to date.

The auto fill feature just seems wierd, but at least there will be ways to work around it.2009-11-13 01:48:00

Lol, I was wondering why no one has watched it yet.

The youtube function seems kinda janky right now, so here's the url.

I tried to do a couple things that don't seem to work as of now... such as performing the teleportation trick by either smashing the checkpoints, saving the checkpoint that has a short life span (capture seems pretty limited in this respect), and destroying it by putting a brain on.

More tests will commence this weekend.

If you're talking about video embedding, that has been removed a little while back. It now shows a link you can click to have the video load.

Create looks not as good as i hoped but i understand cuz its only on PSP. If it was exactly identical to the PS3s exept with a fillbucket tool it would be better than the PS3 one for me. Story levels look amazing though. Hope a demo comes out soon. I like how the view switches to diagonal if you shift an object between layers2009-11-13 15:54:00

So there's really no way to get a grid other than by painting a shape? That's a bit annoying, though I might have some ideas for workarounds.

Other than that, it looks sweet, I'm definitely picking this up.

The reason it wouldn't let you do it at 8:55 is because you can't have holes in shapes (which I'm sure you already know).

You were trying to cut away the last block to separate it into two materials. To get two materials you have to exit out and select the brush material again. That way it places the first shape into the game as it's own block and allows you to make a second block wherever you want it

The create mode is fantastic on the whole. It is a lot less forgiving than the ps3 version and things need to be planned out more but it is very good once you get used to it.

To get the kind of results they have achieved in the story mode using those tools is fantastic. I have no doubt in saying that it would be much easier to create the ps3 story mode levels on the ps3, than it would be to do the psp story mode levels on the psp.

Great video, especially for being "quick and ghetto".

Very informative, thanks for posting it!

I heard that LBP PSP's explosives work differently. The strategy guide called them shockbombs and said that instead of destroying the object, it just pushes it away. Could someone with the game tell me how the explosives work?2009-11-15 17:59:00

Could someone with the game tell me how the explosives work? In videos it looks like it just dissolves objects instead of blowing them up except the explosion is lethal but the strategy guide might be right2009-11-15 18:45:00

Dissolving objects sounds right, because in the PS3 version explosions drill holes in things. Considering that you can't even do that in create mode in the PSP version, this makes sense.2009-11-15 19:20:00

I just got it and im confused, I cant make corners for a clif without corner editing and I am ot good with that, and you can only make a line with a shape if you use a square or circle, no grid. No way of connecting after that. and if you made a rectangle and need to make another NOT attached to it you need to deselect and reselect the whole tool to make it. I thought they could have made the creating easyier, like PS3.2009-11-18 01:00:00
