Can't Decide On A Name.....

Archive: 14 posts

Hey People!

I'm currently in development of a Rememberance Day level and I can't decide on the name for it. So far I've come up with the following:

- Lest We Forget
- In Rememberance
- Where Poppies Blow
- Never Again!
- Blood, Sweat & Tears
- For King And Country

Thanks for the help!

Hmmm... some of those aren't too bad actually. I like any of the first 3...

A thought that popped into my mind was "For the Fallen". Just had a ring to it for some reason.

Edit : lol.. just read what lbpholic posted.. I guess we were on a similar wavelength.

- Lest We Forget
- In Rememberance
- Where Poppies Blow
- Never Again!
- Blood, Sweat & Tears
- For King And Country

I think Where Poppies Blow is a much better level name than any of these others.

Don't make it anything too direct ("Lest we forget", "In Remembrance" type names). People won't really be interested in those as much.
Don't make it a declaration ("Never again"). Politics will put many people off. Speaking of which ...
Don't specify a political system or attempt to call upon people's patriotism ("King and country"), that will put people off as well.

"Where Poppies Blow" however, is a very simple, poetic image. Furthermore, it's vague, and will make people curious.

If I ever get stuck on a level title, sometimes a thesaurus can be a big help.

Just go to thesaurus.com and start typing in words related to the level, eventually one of them will inspire a title.

But I think the Poppies one is good, Jagrevi made some good points.

Oh, and to nitpick, I like Where The Poppies Blow better.

"Where Poppies Blow" is also my favourite, it's kind of mysterious, would make me curious to play it. The other names don't have that effect on me...

cheers,

What kind of remembrance? Holocaust? D-Day? 9-11?

Edit: WWI. Got it. But what's a poppie(y?)? lol

It's a poppy, incinerator. Back in WWI, in France where the Canadians were fighting, wild poppies grew in the fields, they ended up growing around the temporary graves of soldiers. They are also little red pieces of felted plastic that you can purchase off of a veteran this time of year. You've never seriously seen or heard of a poppy?

The dedication in my level was meant for all wars that preceeded WWI, but clearly you can see that it has a WWI feel. After all, it was declared to be the war to end all wars! Which by now we know, couldn't be further from the truth.
