Emitting itself forever issue

Archive: 2 posts

got a bit of an issue, that I'm not quite sure how to work around. Essentially, I have an enemy that I want to be able to "teleport" by dissolving itself and re-appearing somewhere else.

Now, here's the problem - I can make an enemy that can emit something where it wants, and dissolve itself. Easy. But it's emitters are empty. So I capture it as an object, and make it emit itself wherever. Fine, this one can do everything I want it to now. So it does its thing, and eventually teleports. Problem is, the emitters on this newly emitted version are empty. There's the problem - I can't think of a way to make this an infinite loop, as eventually if it teleports enough it will get back to the original enemy that had blank emitters.

The only work around I can think of is to use an external thing that emits it, but one of the things I want teleporting to do is so it can say in the same spot, only switching planes. I hope I explained this well enough, does anyone have any idea as to how that can be an infinite loop?

No, i don't think this is possible, and i've given the problem many thoughts myself. Like you said, you can keep nesting the emitters, but eventually one will emit which can't teleport. The best way to do this would probably be to use a series of 3 emitters (one for each plane), and use some sort of device to determine the order the teleports take. If you make the device move along on a piston and follow the enemy, it should emit it fairly close to the spot where the enemy dissapeared from.2009-11-09 02:33:00
