What does game of the year mean anyway

Archive: 14 posts

I mean really! how can sooo many games be game of the year! It seems game of the year edition of games means all dlc packed with it.

I mean really
LBP GOTY
Fallout GOTY
Left 4 dead GOTY
Gears of war 2 GOTY
Metal Gear solid GOTY
Oblivion GOTY

Can someone please explain why each year theres like 2 GOTYs from each console

Yeah exactly, as soon as a publisher or website of some kind gives you any kind ofGOTY award you then have the rights to slap GOTY all over it (so long as you mention from whom, but it still sounds good even if you don't know who the source is)

I always just saw GOTY versions of games as both sales-boosters and excuses to re-releases games with DLC/Expansions included. Like asbestos said, as long as one magazine (or whatever) gives a game a Game of the Year award, they have a reason to release a GOTY version. Generally, GOTY versions are better, too. (Take Oblivion or Fallout 3, for instance. Both come with DLC built-in and free.)2009-11-08 15:09:00

It seems to be the same with books, almost every book i've brought seems to be the "#1 best seller"2009-11-08 15:57:00

Of course if you dont win the award you can substitute goty for ultimate.True. Ultimate almost sounds better. I mean, would you rather play Oblivion: ULTIMATE EDITION or Oblivion: GOTY? Hehe.2009-11-08 22:11:00

Well to be honest i'd rather play GOTY because "Ultimate Edition" sounds like they can't sell the game.

Take the game "Two Worlds".. Alright game but undersold and BIG money loss.. they re released as "Two Worlds: EPIC edition" .. Which sold even less..

The only difference between top selling books, number one movies, and GOTYs are that games of the year are usually all good. Most "number one movies in America" I've seen were despicable.2009-11-09 04:10:00
