debate section

what about a seperate section in maybe general chat where people can hold mature debates about anything? obviously people would have to enter on their own risk.

it could be moderated by a mature member, too.

Are you saying that the moderators of this site are immature?

I think it's a good idea. Pushing the slightly more sensitive topics into a separate subforum for "mature debate" rather than "general chat" is a good idea in my head.

I think our religion debate thread shows that with some maturity, a nice debate can be sustained. It will take a close eye, though.2009-11-07 14:20:00

We allow debates about nearly any topic, as long as it's handled maturely, but I don't think an entire forum promoting debates would be a good idea. It may work at the outset, but it would quickly become swamped with people who don't know how to handle the responsibility. It would become a forum that doesn't gel with any of the other forums here, and it would likely cause more problems than it would solve.2009-11-07 18:21:00

Or have one big debate thread someone manages and they change the topic once the person running it feels that everyone has said what they needed to say on the topic

We used to do this i remember we went through like 6 topics then the person running it like dissapeared from the forums or somthing

Sounds like a Spam Can for arguments. Definitely not something I want around.

I'm totally up for debate and considerate discussion, but I feel we have enough sections and sub-sections already in which to place them.

If there are very specific things that members want to talk about, there's always PMs or social groups.

Yeah, that would work. Just make sure the group is opt-in only - keep it viewable to only those that choose to join it.

Before this is closed, I'd just like to say that the fact that you were all "meta-debaters" was mildly amusing.2009-11-08 17:12:00
