The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Though this movie is old, I watched this on Halloween, and it made me scared as ****. But this was the second time I watched it. The first time was when it was still fresh. After comparing the movie with today's technology and effects, I thought, "Was it really that scary?" So I now ask you this:

Was The Exorcism of Emily Rose scary?

I say **** ya! I can't believe that ****'s true! But it wasn't as scary back in the days before the technology today let's us create wonderful things (LittleBigPlanet, duh!).

It really isn't.

(Only watched like 40 mins and it's awfull)

I watched this movie when I was 12 or something and I didn't think it was scary. Body contortion isn't scary to me. It was kind of interesting but not scary.

What!? It's not scary! Call me crazy, but I think it was scary, and I'm saying SCARY!

The fact is, it's not the movie itself, it's connecting it to your life, and imagining this happening to yourself.

That's what everyone says about every scary movie that isn't scary.

Saw, for example. Yeah, being tortured like that would suck, but I know that I'm not being tortured. A good movie shouldn't make you try and put yourself in their shoes, but should make you sympathize for the characters. I didn't sympathize with Emily Rose one bit. I didn't sympathize with anyone in any Slasher movie ever, turning it from a "horror" movie to an action movie where the good guy is the murderer.

Oh, and stuff that's actually tangible and can kill you is always scarier than evil stuff from a book that I never read making faces turn into black smudges. Just sayin'.

I think it was scary, but more in the ole' days, when the men walked with shotgun in one hand, and budlight in the other. Then the women would pull out their Mini Uzi's and say, "Die mother*******!" :eek:

First off, I never drink Budlight with my shotgun. You just don't get drunk enough to figure out things to shoot. Let's drink some Budweiser and shoot sumthin. And my old lady prefer the AK for the reliability and accessibilty. And she never references mothers, it's just disrespectful, they'll shoot ya for that.

I didn't think it was THAT scary. The original Exorcist was scarier. Much scarier. I couldn't sleep by myself for a week after watching that. Linda Blair still freaks me out.

Well, Saw is in fact not scary. Happy Tree friends is the exact same thing as Saw. But I'm saying the Exorcism was scary. Seriously, I mean scary as in "That part was scary", not "The whole movie was scary".

I don't find most flicks all that scary. I think it's because from a very young age I watched horror films with the fascination of how they achieved all the great special effects.

I'm actually about to sit down right now with a friend and watch this film, as I haven't seen it. Her opinion is that it's not scary, but rather, has moments that make you jump. I suppose that's one type of scary depending on who you are.

Here I go.... I'll get back to you on this whole scary question after watching it.

I disagree. The film isn't that old, and the digital techniques used in the film were not new back then... just the style of the effects.

As for the film... not scary, but had a few good jumpy moments. Over all, I thought the film was excellent. I enjoyed that it wasn't just another crappy horror flick... the whole court room drama helped the film out a lot. I also like that the film doesn't try to imply that it was a possession or a medical condition. That open endedness really makes for good conversation after a film.

I'd recommend this film to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Are you kidding me. The Exorcism of Emily Rose scared the bejesus out of me. I couldn't even get past the first 10 minutes of it - had to stop it in fear of having nightmares.

Ya, the Exorcism of Emily Rose was scary... but the documentary with the screams were funny!

It sounded like an age old grandma trying to open a jar of pickles!

I am suprised I stumbled across this thread. I first seen this movie when it came out in theaters, and to this day it goes down as one of the scariest movies I had ever seen.

Just to clarify, I am a horror movie addict. I have been watching horror movies since I was like 5 years old. I've probably seen almost every horror movie you can name, even the unknown independant horror films.

I never had nightmares from scary movies, even as a kid. I also find it hard to find a good horror movie in today's horror movies because there's often too much action, or too many using NOTICEABLE computer graphics.

Exorcism of Emily Rose (which I was in my mid teens when I first saw) scared me bad enough to where I had my first and only nightmare to this day from a scary movie.

Why was it so scary? Simple, it was based on a true story, BUT unlike a lot of horror movies based on a true story, this one seemed so real and made you feel as though it was very real, and very well made. The atmosphere of the movie and everything couldn't of been done better, just no way.

What scared me the most was the bewitching hour, 3:00 AM which is something tied in with real life through supersticion. So when it was 3:00 in the movie, and the burning smells and no lights, etc. It was just too well made, and very scary. That 3:00 AM part is what my nightmare was about. It was in my own home and like many dreams very real.

Exorcism of Emily Rose is one of my favorites, and is far scarier to me than The Exorcist. The Exorcist was too fake, especially with the head turning 360 degress. Don't get me wrong, The Exorcist is scary, but not as realistic as The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

The producer did such a brilliant job of portraying something that can be very real. It's one of those rare true story movies that hits home, although I can say hands down none have done it as good as this movie. The events happened, and like it said at the end of the movie, you can even go and see her grave. The court cases actually happened too. And the overall feel of the movie and the way it was executed was flawless.

No, it isn't scary.

Just watched it.

You should watch the entire movie before judging.
