Fractured Fairy Tales: Alice in Wonderland pt. 1Pixietails
Alice in Wonderland with a little dark twist! Part one, head down the rabbit hole in search of the white rabbit, but beware; Wonderland is no beautiful walk in the park...

I really need some feedback for this level. I'm not that creative with obstacles, so I focus kinda on visuals (though I'm still not very good with that). Is the electric part in the garden too hard? Should I make it easier? And how's the platforming in the tree?

I'm working on part two; I've got the mad tea party up! At least that looks cute...haha.

played this 5 minutes ago

it's pretty good, I liked the beginning and when you went down the rabbit hole.
The evil roses were nice, but the part with the big tree was a bit boring to me.

Such platforming things on sponges are just done too much lately and it's not as fun as it used to be. Be more creative in this part for future levels

Overall I can say you're on the right track, I suggest looking into american mcgee's alice to give you some inspiration on what you can do

walls breaking down, floating bricks, evil cartboard soldiers, a maze ... a lot more options with this !

For F4F member please comment on my level "homeless"

Thanks

The cute factor looks high on this one, I'll have to try it, lol. I like a good screwed up kids tale.2009-11-08 15:00:00

I'm a fan of the books, so I simply had to play this level - I enjoyed it! I like your dark interpretation of the story and world of Wonderland. Everything is appropriately weird, amusing, and just a little bit creepy. I thought that the platforming was good and not too frustrating. It forces you to concentrate a little without being annoying, and I'm giving you a big thumbs-up for using infinite life checkpoints. Your obstacles are reasonably standard platforming fare, but they are well implemented and I can tell that you did some playtesting to make sure they worked.

Ok, so here comes the bad news... (Don't worry, there isn't too much.) One thing you could probably use more of are sounds, such as when you unlock the door using the large key. I knew it probably did something, but I had to fumble around a bit before I realized a hole had opened up. Having a clunk or squeak of some kind when the door opens would be nice. Adding in some creaking sounds during the tree climb would be good as well. I thought that using a jetpack to go down the rabbit hole was a little odd, but it works. The only other thing I'd say is that the level is overall fairly short, and that it could use some more length. I know you've published part 2 now, which I am also going to play, but would it be possible to combine to the levels together?

Overall I thought this was a good effort and a great representation of the world of Alice: 4 stars

Thanks for the feedback! I added a new section to this level to make it a little longer. I also intend to have three parts to it when I'm finished. It took me a full day to figure out what I wanted to do for part 3, but now that I've got it worked out I just have to build it. Should be up by the end of the week.

I added the jetpack at the rabbit hole because I didn't want to just drop down it, I wanted the kind of Disney-esque floating sequence...thought it would look better, plus you can see the stuff in the background.

Added some more sounds too...hope the level looks better now!
